I'm impressed. This wasn't half-bad. One thing, though, it's not actually a Leadbelly song, even if Kurt Cobain accredits the song to him at the MTV Unplugged show. Actually, the song itself dates to at least 1888 which predates Louvin brothers by almost 40 years. Like most blues it is much older than when it was origionally recorded.

The first recorded version is "The Rolling Mill Blues" by Peg Leg Howell in 1940.

Leadbelly recorded his version in 1944.

The Song itself though dates back far earlier, and exact authorship is unknown.
