If military wants to buy and show airplane to each other there is no need to have huge crowds of civillians in the show to make the buisness. I still attend to airshows, but I do consider them risky to a low yet evident degree.

Maybe you should go to a show and see it in person instead of spouting off, because it is very obvious to me and a lot of other people that you have never attended one. They are a BLAST to watch. This is why I'm never going to go to an airshow. Yes, sure the pilots are the "MOST EXPERIENCED" but if they were so experienced, why did this happen? Because mistakes happen and in such a situation a mistake cannot be affordable.

was at gateway gardens on rhien main air base when this happened.was goin to go to this but mom had to work at the hotel gift shop, lol. was there from 86-90. frankfurt is awesome plan to go ther again someday for vacation. GATEWAY GARDENS 4 LIFE! lol.....
My dad was working on the base when this happened, he was in the air force, he said that he had to carry dead bodies in trucks to clean up the area where the people could watch the air show and they shut down all entrances just for emergency vehichles.
Is it just me who finds air shows to have crappy safety statistics. There have been several fatal crahes at air shows through the years. Personally, I wouldnt want to go to one. I know that accidents CAN happen but isnt the aim to show how good they are with flying and doing acrobatic tricks, not to mention the planes. Just sayin...
My dad was stationed on the base when this happened, he was 18. He said it was the most gruesome thing he has ever saw. He saw a girl split in half, the dead burnt and mutilated bodies, when they put people on tables it sounded like a glop of wet paper towels being dropped. He had to clean up cause he was MP. He described the ground as "covered with melted chicken skin." He swears that its a cover up to. He says "no way 42 people were killed, they filled hangers with rows of bodies."

@ReliableSunPower I've done it before. Actually it's easy. The problem is that if they dont believe you they'll erase your info. I tried to put down that my old Mercedes was a "2.2L diesel" not a 2.3 diesel (which is actually the gas version) or a 2.0 for that matter, it got erased a day or so later. Come to think about it I just went there again to Wikipedia and their info is still wrong, LOL!!! I dont really trust Wikipedia, I've heard to many bad things about them to trust anything they say.

There was a crash in Nero, Nevada few days back. Not sure why pilots risk their lives at these air shows.
The problem with this event was they were executing a maneuver where the key plane, the one taking the biggest risk, was heading directly at the crowd. High risk stunts should never be performed with the planes heading towards a group of spectators. They should have done this trick with the perpendicular solo plane flying over the crowd's head towards the field. After the collision, only the three pilots would have died. Stupid stupid planning.

@allrare - this crash happened back in 1987. Since then, tighter rules and guidelines have been introduced about what sort of manoeuvres aircraft can do, and how close they can do them to spectators, largely because of this crash.
Maybe this was a big conspiracy. Check out Ustica 1980, a civilian plane shot down by the army! These pilots were important witnesses and they strangely died like some others! Was it sabotage, someone else on the plane?? I was there, was 7. My brother was injured. Because of the Ustica mystery I don't blame the pilots, it all seems so weird!

My dad was working on the base when this happened, he was in the air force, he said that he had to carry dead bodies in trucks to clean up the area where the people could watch the air show and they shut down all entrances just for emergency vehichles.

Is it just me who finds air shows to have crappy safety statistics. There have been several fatal crahes at air shows through the years. Personally, I wouldnt want to go to one. I know that accidents CAN happen but isnt the aim to show how good they are with flying and doing acrobatic tricks, not to mention the planes. Just sayin...

My dad was stationed on the base when this happened, he was 18. He said it was the most gruesome thing he has ever saw. He saw a girl split in half, the dead burnt and mutilated bodies, when they put people on tables it sounded like a glop of wet paper towels being dropped. He had to clean up cause he was MP. He described the ground as "covered with melted chicken skin." He swears that its a cover up to. He says "no way 42 people were killed, they filled hangers with rows of bodies."

@ThaBenjaminBosses there were no bodies taken to any hangers...I was there, the bodies were brought to the temp morgue at the southside gym where they did autopsys on all "70". I moved bodies for the doctors, that i will never forget. Thanks to all 377 SVS

@ReliableSunPower I've done it before. Actually it's easy. The problem is that if they dont believe you they'll erase your info. I tried to put down that my old Mercedes was a "2.2L diesel" not a 2.3 diesel (which is actually the gas version) or a 2.0 for that matter, it got erased a day or so later. Come to think about it I just went there again to Wikipedia and their info is still wrong, LOL!!! I dont really trust Wikipedia, I've heard to many bad things about them to trust anything they say.

@ReliableSunPower The deaths is much higher, as ThaBenjaminBosses states about the cover up. There is always a cover up, deaths are much higher. Not sure why they hide the real number of deaths. There was a crash in Nero, Nevada few days back. Not sure why pilots risk their lives at these air shows.

The problem with this event was they were executing a maneuver where the key plane, the one taking the biggest risk, was heading directly at the crowd. High risk stunts should never be performed with the planes heading towards a group of spectators. They should have done this trick with the perpendicular solo plane flying over the crowd's head towards the field. After the collision, only the three pilots would have died. Stupid stupid planning.

Most people don't realise this, but as soon as you turn up to watch one of these air shows, you're as brave as those pilots and you're in as much danger as those pilots - and so are your children. So think about that before you rate yourself as a good loving so-called responsible parent who's thinking of going to a air show near you.

The past has proven that. So why risk it? Our time could be next! At least place the spectators further away from any possible danger.

@allrare - this crash happened back in 1987. Since then, tighter rules and guidelines have been introduced about what sort of manoeuvres aircraft can do, and how close they can do them to spectators, largely because of this crash.

Maybe this was a big conspiracy. Check out Ustica 1980, a civilian plane shot down by the army! These pilots were important witnesses and they strangely died like some others! Was it sabotage, someone else on the plane?? I was there, was 7. My brother was injured. Because of the Ustica mystery I don't blame the pilots, it all seems so weird!
