What a load of crap! I love Django, but if anyone could be credited as "practically inventing Jazz guitar, it's Eddie Lang. That Django invented Jazz guitar would also be news to Charlie Christian, Carl Kress etc...
I love Django - even named my youngest son Django. But he "... didn't practically invent the jazz guitar". But they do cite Eddie Lang. I hope Charlie Christian et al are given credit...
One can't help be reminded of Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen's 'tragedy' which of course ultimately gave his band the unique sound that propelled them to the status they now enjoy. Django and Rick prove once again the indomitably resilient human spirit. Tragedy? BALDERDASH! That's what made them who they are. It's what makes us ALL, who we are. So don't lament your misfortune, it's only 'cosmic course correction'.
wtf is with calling roma gypsies + stupid? they're very intellectuals... open air acadamia ftw hell english uses so many roma words it's embarassing you silly yanks.... Rom + antics = romantics.... Rom = man, antics = violant free action.... I mean come on it's so simple, respect the roms!
@JMPrudomTube English does have Romani loan words, but romantic isn't one of them. That comes from Vulgar Latin... as does French, Romani, Portuguese, the Spanishes, Italian etc...
thank you to whoever put this togehter,.... i really appreciate it (for real ),.... i just wish i lived in his era ( or vice versa ),......so i would be able to draw or paint someting in his honor,.......god dangit,....wishes and hopes,............whatever right,....!!!!!
This makes me cry. Such an awesome triumph of the spirit. Some people listen to Django and want to throw away their guitar, but he is proof that limitations are often figments of ones imagination or lack there of.

If you like Django, you may also like Lenny Breau, another guitar player who died much too young - (heavily influenced by Django). Lenny was called "Boy Genius". As a child, he played guitar on his parents' radio show. People thought there were two or three guitar players, but it was just Lenny! Guitarist Randy Bachman (Lenny's student in Winnipeg) has released some great CD's with the proceeds going to Lenny's family. Poor guy was murdered in 1984, age 43.
Celluloid flowers, holy tits! If anyone else has ever been stupid enough to light a celluloid fender guitar pick on fire, you know how quickly a room full of them would be engulfed in flame.
Great Doc! When I was in College, I had the Honor to attend School with Cozy Cole. He wanted a Degree in Jazz, and went back to School at 67, I was 21. He was like my best friend. we bonded in a very spiritual way. He would tell me I reminded him of Django. It was and Is one of the best Honors I've every had... He stories about Louie Armstrong and Django, were precious. My moments with Cozy are some of the best Memories I own! Again Excellent Documentary. Django will always be Missed.
This was very informative - the accident seems most responsible for his unique sound - really cool.. Toni Iommi (Black Sabbath) has two fake lether fingers (pinky and ring) and he basically invented heavy metal..
how wonderful to see this, thanks
