She nailed that role. She was so cold, it was chilling watching her. It's hard to believe your watching Angela Lansbury.

Lansbury and Harvey were the same age, I think....makes for an interesting mom/son relationship! "Brainwashing" was used just after the Korean war regarding "turncoat" GIs who stayed in N. Korea or China. A few remained there for decades.

Well, firstly this is the finest political thriller ever made, with a director at the peak of his powers and a cameraman script and collection of some of the most intelligent and versatile actors working in Hollywood -considered from leads to supports throughout. Secondly,the role of Eleanor Iselin is basically that of Lady Macbeth and in choosing Angela Lansbury to play it, we have probably the most powerfully realised study of ambitious evil in the entire genre.
