I agree with you especially about the adoption idea. The pimary reason people want marriage defined is because of protecting the rights of churches who's religious beliefs are against homosexuality. New Jersey is a good example. The state forced a church to allow a gay ceremony on their property. They used the fact the church accepted public funding to keep up the location. State law said the church would either give up their claim or no longer accept public funds.
If the Church was stood so strongly for its professed values, surely it should have just stopped taking the government handouts? What was it doing taking public money anyway, isn't the separation of CHurch and State enforced in NJ?

Actually, Separation of Church and State isn't even a law in any way. It was actually a statement in a letter that was sent to the Baptists in Rhode Island from Andrew Johnson. What that letter basically said was that the state cannot interfere with the actions of the church because we have freedom of religion. And if the state did interfere, it would be unconstitutional. So you're right. Jersey was far more than out of line. And the church could sue if they wanted.
I think the modernconcervative answered my question for me. The State had no right telling a church how to conduct its business. They could stop supporting the church with public money and that was a mistake of the State and Church. That did NOT give the State the right to force their will on the church.

I agree with you especially about the adoption idea. The pimary reason people want marriage defined is because of protecting the rights of churches who's religious beliefs are against homosexuality. New Jersey is a good example. The state forced a church to allow a gay ceremony on their property. They used the fact the church accepted public funding to keep up the location. State law said the church would either give up their claim or no longer accept public funds.

Its a myth that if Prop 8 hadn't passed that churches in California would have been forced to perform same-sex ceremonies, the California Supreme Court ruling that enabled gay marriages expressly stated that.

Actually, Separation of Church and State isn't even a law in any way. It was actually a statement in a letter that was sent to the Baptists in Rhode Island from Andrew Johnson. What that letter basically said was that the state cannot interfere with the actions of the church because we have freedom of religion. And if the state did interfere, it would be unconstitutional. So you're right. Jersey was far more than out of line. And the church could sue if they wanted.

Ok, whatever, I get your point but next time use real facts. 12% of women are infertile or are not able to being a baby to term(i.e miscarriage) and 6% of men are unable to reproduce. I think that equates for more than 0.1% of couples and you have to consider that a majority of people are in heterosexual relationships.

If your percentages are factual, which I will admit, I'm not sure if they are, but I can find out and will when I have the time, then that would mean that out of a world of about 3 billion people, that would mean that approximately 3.2 million women cannot conceive or are unable to carry to term. That would have mean that, on average of course, you and I should be able to know at least 3 or 4 women who cannot conceive. I have yet to meet a woman who can't conceive. I don't know if you do.

If 2 elderly people have been previously married and already raised their children and are widowed, they have earned the right to marry if for nothing more than just companionship. Do you want to be in your 80's and die alone? I don't. If me or my wife dies, and we've already rasied our kids, we have the right to marry, just so neither one of us dies alone. I see you're still an idiot. First of all, most elderly people are only going to marry, for the most part, just so they don't have to die alone. I also don't know many elderly people who are gay. Any elderly person, because of their age, has earned the right through life experience, to marry for just companionship. I would say that an 82 year old man and woman has earned the right to do what they want as long as it's legal. If you had any brains, I wouldn't have to explain this.

but I've lost 3 jobs because some high and mighty jerk of a chick who thought she was better than everyone. In fact, I even got turned down for a promotion because some chick was whining because she had started 4 days before me. Half to 3/4 of the time, she came to me to loosen nuts and bolts that she couldn't break. Part of the job description was "physically able to do the work." She couldn't do the work, she shouldn't have gotten the promotion. (ctd., last part of my rant)

What is dad is a tech geek or rich and doesn't have the typical macho role but pays for others to do it? And fitting together? I have never seen two gay men have problems fitting together.

1) Gender roles are not "instinctual" they are social constructs that are reinforced every second of every day. There is a difference between chromosomal sex and socialized gender. 2) It is not because of gay people that the family was destroyed. Some queer theorists would argue that the gay identity could exist BECAUSE the family became less important with the rise of capitalism and individualism.
