I don't "believe" in anything. Until there is demonstratable proof, all we have are theories. The worst case scenario from the computer models may well be true. Or not. I've read comments by scientists who doubt the models with complaints like the models don't factor in the biosphere, or cloud cover, cosmic rays or electromagnetic sun activity. The oceans are a wildcard, and the data input of the models is under suspicion. Then what % of the CO2 in the atmosphere is manmade?

If you look at data collected on the atmospheric carbon concentration, the concentration increases significantly esp. after the industrial revolution. The increase in concentration in the air is directly correlated to man's burning of fossil fuels.

Carbon dioxide is an excellent absorber of electromagnetic rays in and near the infrared (thermal) spectrum. That is FACT.

But even IF increased carbon conc. does not cause global warming, do you think there will be no other effects whatsoever?

I suspect that any pollution that man commits to the environment will have some effect. I've always been against pollution, and remain committed against pollution. But the approach to CO2 issue is under suspicion for more than one reason. Plus, the cost effectiveness of taxing carbon is low. China and India aren't on the bandwagon. If we want to reduce pollution, do it with incentives and make green technology cheaper, much like Google's green startegy in the private sector.

There's a reason why green technology is expensive...the energy produced is tiny. The most realistic source of energy people should look into is nuclear energy. Not the lame solar panels and wind turbines.

From different sources, China completes a new coal fired power plant every month. To it's credit, it has been building cleaner plants lately. It also builds windmills. Offset that with the fact that it is running out of landfills for it's trash and is building more incinerators.

We're in agreement on nuclear energy. But, it is not a popular source. Alternative energies of all sorts are currently not putting a dent in our overall energy consumption. That will change slowly over time. Solar panels will soon become economically viable. Other alternatives are evolving, too. Natural gas is the best transition energy source for those nations who have that resource, like the U.S..

Yes though china tops the US in terms of total carbon emissions, the US has one of world's highest per capita carbon emissions. The average chinese person uses 4 times less energy than the average american.

So who is really polluting "more"? America.

Who is more actively trying to cut pollution? China.

Natural gas is a good alternative but is also non-renewable and so is not a permanent solution.

Nuclear is the Only way. If only the bulk of americans could somehow educate themselves about it.

To say the average Chinese uses 4 times less energy than the average American is misleading. A vast amount of Chinese are subsistence farmers and nomads that don't use much energy. That obscures the fact that China is now importing metallurgical coal for it's growing steel industry. That it's building coal fired powerplants faster than anybody, that the Chinese people do not recycle, that their landfills are filling up and they are now building incinerators to burn their trash.
