Toyota says they build quality cars hahaha now they r recalling 3.8 million cars there is a design flaw on the floor of the car allowing the mats to slide i work at a car wash n when i got into the car n the mat isnt hooked in the eye hole the mat moves
This is a very safe car indeed! Compared to other BMW 3 Series and Merc C Class, I think it is better in structural strength. Once my dad had the Lexus IS250 and some stupid guy crashed him in the rear at 30 mph. He walked away like nothing had happened!
I just bought an IS250. Glad to know the rear impact is as good as the ratings say.....although the idiots in this town seem to be unaware that speed limits exist at all. One woman here just crashed her S600 into a brick wall at 100+mph, (after hitting head-on and killing two resident doctors in a tiny pickup...city street with 40mph limit). The speeder and her husband are OK(ish) after only a month (&millions) in the hospital. So I wonder about higher speed impact outcomes.
i got hit like that in my old 97' peugeot 406 and i Drove it away like nothing happened and it has bad crash test results, a few months and big repairs later i hit someone elses volvo the same way myself and i still drove it home with a radiator leak and front looking like a pancake :)
Interesting, mazinais31. I've been reading that French cars behave really well in accidents. Maybe I should have been looking for an old Peugeot...although I'm not sure anyone can competently service one around here.
well i was just replying to FSJZ97's comment about 30mph rear crash, basically almost any car ill do for that speed and nothing will happen to you, that being said, iv'e seen such a crash on a german car and it looks like nothing ever happened, everything went under the bumper, my pug's butt was pretty hurt,
and only the new french cars behave good, the older one's are mostly considered tin cars for their body weakness, an rust
French crash test performance is interesting. In the late '90's when EuroNCAP first started testing, (all cars) especially french cars did very badly. Then in 2001 the Renalt Laguna was the first car to get 5 stars. This looked great in advertisements and all the French competition raced to catch up. Unfortunately most French cars lack 'holistic safety' like good headrestraints that until recentley weren't evaluated. It seems they only improve designs when they are embarassed by poor ratings.
So you might be less likely to die in a French car, but you might also wish you had died. I kind of worry about that with the Lexus. What kind of injuries do people sustain? Volvos were extremely holistic, and really reflected Swedish values. If Volvo were still a Swedish company, I would never have considered anything else, even if I became a billionaire.
In 1980 the Peugeot 504 got the worst crash test result ever recorded in the NHTSA 35 mph full frontal crash test. Head injury criterions were 4,611 for the driver and 2,498 for the passenger; 1,300 is possible death and by the low 2,000s death is almost certain. Survival chance: NONE for the driver and less than 2% for the passenger.
Who the hell would be shopping for a luxury sport sedan and decide to buy a Volkswagen? Hm, I want to eat a steak, so I'm gonna buy a HAMBURGER. Makes lots of sense. You either buy this, an Audi A4, a BMW 3, a Saab 9-3, or the stated Mercedes C class (which from almost all sources gets a lower safety rating than a Lexus IS).
Would you mind telling me which sources say the IS is safer than a C-class? I just bought an IS, and thought it was ever-so-slightly less safe than the C (although more reliable, which counts as a safety feature to me). Having that information would make me feel better about my choice. I thought I'd researched it pretty well, but apparently missed some important sources.
Thanks, erlmangrl, I need all the reassurance I can get. The drivers in this town are certifiably insane, and getting worse. I overheard a plaintiff attorney describing one woman he's representing who has had FIVE accidents since the initial accident she retained him for. This is within the space of 18 months. Apparently, she's still on the road (rather than in a straight-jacket, where she belongs).
I don't exactly trust that steering wheel airbag... I'm 6' tall and would probably be hurt pretty bad by that 2 foot thick loose cannon...

The Mercedes Benz C-Class received an overall better safety rating that the Lexus Is
firedemon101 2 years ago
That's what I'd thought. Thanks for confirming my research.

yeah, the c class is an iihs top safety pick, the IS is a silver top safety pick - didn't get the highest rating for the head restraint evaluation

Dont worry lexus is is better car then the c class.
