This song is what basically pulled me into the Super Robot Universe..... (Hearing it fro super robot wars alpa made me addicted to the game, even if I didn't understand japanese at all)
When it goes to 1:06, I imagine myself gliding in the air in Battlefield 3 shooting down the enemies before I hit the ground than a epic firefight starts 8*)
jeez it does sound like the James Bond theme back in the 1960's (which I loved the series back when I was little kid <3) :DDDD but this one is different but I still like it 8DD
I just compared the James Bond one and this one REEEEEEEEEAAAALLLY closely side-to-side and I *finally* figured out what makes this one better to me: Shiro Sagisu changed the rhythm. During the start, the "beat" part that sounds almost the same -- listen very carefully to notes 4 and 5. Note 6 too, but especially 4 and 5.
This little change makes this beat sounds more epic and dramatic than John Barry's original. Overlaying the melody from "THE BEAST II" on top of everything helped too.
@Orobus7t7 Ice ice baby sucked compared to its original source under pressure. :) Decisive battle, though, has managed to seriously improve on its original source, so, musically, all it deserves from me is praise... It even changes the beat, making it sound more heroic. Try tapping beat from one song while listening to the other. it WILL be offbeat at note 4, guaranteed. There's an amazing new melody, too.
And I still hold it that "copy and change" is the natural evolution of folk music.
Wait...this sounds like that track in You Only Live Twice, when Bond get chased by the Yakuza in a black sedan, with Bond and Aki in a Datsun trying to get away.
Yep- "007 Steals the Lektor". Many have noticed that connection since the series came out, and again in Eva 1.0 when he updated it. This was probably Sagisu-san's nod to it, which came out around the time he began his career in Japan.
From now on, I'll play this everytime I turn on my computer, and shout commands to everyone around me, while I get a friend to repeat the broadcast message over and over.
@RedBigButton Go to Command Prompt and type in 'color a', then 'cd C:\Windows', then 'cls', then 'tree'. Then, when people walk in, shout something like, "Intruder is accessing the main security banks! It's cracking the passcode! 12th digit...16th digit...it's in! MY GOD! It's broken into the main banks! It's reading all the files, WE CAN'T STOP IT! IT'S GOT ALL OUR CODES! It's scanning the main directories! Accessing codes for...OH MY GOD! It's going after the main operating system!"
Goofed a little here, sorry. 0:16 is the start of the new melody but is still pretty similar. Starting from 0:27, however, is an all-original line that even if you're incredibly nitpicky lasts AT LEAST to 0:52. And most of the music is repeating either the 0:16-0:27 bit which is similar but STILL DIFFERENT, or the 0:27-0:52 bit, which is entirely original and makes the song WORK.
Also there are many little touches "here and there" that aren't in John Barry's song and they make this one better.
It's not exactly the same. It just keeps one of the 'overlying themes' and centers around it. It's clear like daylight he expected some people to recognize the Barry part. Apparently, Shirou Sagisu has acknowledged Barry's work as an influence. I can't guarantee the reliability of this information though.
I've heard a lot of people on here talking about some tune from 007 so I listened to that and I have to say that these two tunes do not sound that similar. The only similarity is that they both have loud trumpets.
@TheMorbidOtaku it actually does sound pretty similar by having the same rhythms and some of the structure, but Shiro Sagisu added a completely new main melody that transforms the music into something much more epic. Why do people not see this...
Do you really think someone would rip-off a composer like John Barry? It's most likely a homage. Gainax always does things like these with its series.
A few notes here and there is homage; the entire track lifted wholesale is fucking plagiarism. Kenji Yamamoto got fired as composer for Dragon Ball Kai for just this offense. Why hasn't this asshole gotten the same treatment?
What kind of logic is that? Copyright law doesn't care if you improve upon the source material; that doesn't change the fact that you lifted somebody else's work and claimed it as your own. Besides which, quality is a subjective thing.
It might not be exactly the same, but that's splitting hairs. Listen to them side-by-side; they're almost identical throughout.
@SuperSaiyanAl I HAVE listened to them side-to-side. It starts out identical but at 0:16 it goes off the rails into a completely different melody. If that counts as "lifting somebody else's work and claiming it as its own" yeah SURE. Try that with "L's Theme" from Death Note and the much earlier "Tubular Bells" by Mike Oldfield, which was the inspiration.
Kenji Yamamoto plagiarized things without any changing and somehow made it sound worse, LOL! He sucks.
@SuperSaiyanAl Are you retarded or are you just trolling?
Everything sounds like something that has been done before. So now you're telling me that NO ONE can EVER use that beat again because it has been used in some soundtrack you heard
Fuck that, it is awesome and it is original even if it's a synth, and you are forgettint the whole thing, this piece of music comes with a masterpiece of the animation that is Evangelion. So shut the fuck up please
"LOL EVERYBODY'S DONE EVERYTHING ORIGINALITY WHAT'S THAT LOLOLOLOLOL" yes you fucking cunt, the fact that John Barry wrote that music means that people can't just up and steal it for their own purposes. Artists are supposed to be creative; if you're not creative enough to write your own material, then you're a blight upon your art form.
Also, I shit on Evangelion out of habit, so saying "IT'S EVANGELION SO IT'S AUTOMATICALLY GOOD" isn't gonna work on me, fella.
@MetaLeir93 I'm on the EVA side of the issue, but SuperSaiyanAI actually has a damn fine point. It's more than just the beat, it's the general structure and orchestration as well. Listen to "007 Takes The Lektor" and tell me it isn't very similar. And before you ask, the James Bond version was 30+ years earlier.
Now the question is: whether "Decisive Battle" with it's new melody part is different enough to not qualify as plagiarism? I think it is, and SuperSaiyanAI thinks it isn't. Simple.
Ah, my bad; it's "Sin from Genesis." The plural threw you off. Try searching that instead.
It pops up in this song, and it's actually a really good piece. The thing is, I don't think Shiro Sagisu is a bad composer. Despite not liking Evangelion, I really like his soundtrack for it. He's clearly talented, which is why he shouldn't have to stoop to stealing another composer's work.
That's what bothers me. That, and the fact that he's never been called out for it.
@SuperSaiyanAl "Decisive Battle" is a song from the ORIGINAL Evangelion series and "Sin from Genesis" is from the much newer "Rebuild of Evangelion". The second one, actually.
So the new melodic part I was talking about was first created here and only then "extracted" into "Sin from Genesis". If it was otherwise, I'd be the FIRST to say "hey, he just took someone else's music and then put his own piece on top" which doesn't take any work. Not in this case. He actually did work on this.
That's just the arrangement used in Rebuild, which is almost identical to the one used in the series. Sin from Genesis originally played when Shinji curbstomped and ate Zeruel. The scene in question's up on Youtube multiple times over if you want to see for yourself. I know there's an up-tempo version, but I don't remember what it's called.
So they're both pieces that appear in the movie, and they're both pieces which originate from the series. Or James Bond, y'know, but let's not split hairs.
@SuperSaiyanAl watched the scene on YouTube and you know what, you're right! So, even though it's his part added in so it's not strictly speaking *plagiarism* ("transformative use" and all that), it's still incredibly lazy. Shiro Sagisu, that was really uncalled for.
@SuperSaiyanAl well, strictly speaking, that's how folk songs used to evolve before copyright law even existed. Someone would sing something, then someone else would take it, maybe add a chorus, maybe rewrite part of the melody or something. However, film scores are not folk songs.
And no, I don't think this one counts as illegal -- aside from the "new" part, he changed various stuff in areas that are there but that we barely hear. A LOT of tiny stuff. Clever bastard!
@SuperSaiyanAl it is... but it could be the direction also...
The first Doom game is full with "almost ripoffs" of various metal songs. Turns out Bobby Prince himself (composer) was not in the wrong. He was literally handed a CD of various metal hits that were popular t the time and told "Do like this". Since Bobby Prince was also a lawyer, he knew how much he could sample without getting into trouble.
So maybe the decision was partly on Anno's part too? We will never know, sadly.
da igual si es de 007 o evangelion, esta version es mejor y les guste o no , evangelion es mas famoso que 007, que solo los abuelos fosiles conocen xD
@grafito347 so ur comparing shinji ikari to james bond?, lol way to insult your hero. like i would ever compare the two. find his way out of nerve? so selee owns nerve and controls the rest of the world pretty much, he has nowhere to run. take your antiquated hero the fuck out of here and back to the 60's already.
@grafito347 aston martin DB5? its like fighting a giant in a bumper car..... unless u have a nuclear missile in there your good agent 007 will end up as roadkill on top of a well compressed aston martin.
Gotta say I like this revised copy over John Barry's score. Although it was written in the 1960's and is a good piece, I think this just sounds cleaner and overall better. The Harmon mutes sounds badass.
@nekomaxo No im not. Actually I just think the song is a kind of a rip off of the john barry score for From RUssia with love. Its even on the related videos! (From Russia with love score, 007 takes the lector).
And I respect the composer of this version and all of his work, but yes, I think this song is kind of copied.
"Sir, what's our next move?!"
"The enemy line is advancing!"
"Ready the planes! Move out!"
That is what I think of this song.

oneshott14 10 months ago 34
@oneshott14 It just so happens that the majority of them come from Japan.
*cough*Yoko Kanno*cough*

@oneshott14 If that is true, then who is the original musician?

Interesting rearrangement of the John Barry tune. I prefer the original, but this is pretty cool too.

007 kicks eva´s ass with an aston martin DB5... and he maybe get laid with asuka, rei etc etc etc
grafito347 11 months ago
@grafito347 then get arrested for statutory rape. and no eva would probably step on 007 or bite his head off or something.
metalraider187 11 months ago
@metalraider187 In Japan he wouldn't get arrested for statutory rape ;)

@grafito347 so ur comparing shinji ikari to james bond?, lol way to insult your hero. like i would ever compare the two. find his way out of nerve? so selee owns nerve and controls the rest of the world pretty much, he has nowhere to run. take your antiquated hero the fuck out of here and back to the 60's already.
metalraider187 9 months ago
@grafito347 aston martin DB5? its like fighting a giant in a bumper car..... unless u have a nuclear missile in there your good agent 007 will end up as roadkill on top of a well compressed aston martin.

Gotta say I like this revised copy over John Barry's score. Although it was written in the 1960's and is a good piece, I think this just sounds cleaner and overall better. The Harmon mutes sounds badass.

WHAT THE FUCK!!!!! They copied John Barry's Score from james Bond soundtrack "from russia with love"!!!!

@Gabrielvogel I noticed that years ago.

@Gabrielvogel are you idiot?
nekomaxo 8 months ago
@nekomaxo No im not. Actually I just think the song is a kind of a rip off of the john barry score for From RUssia with love. Its even on the related videos! (From Russia with love score, 007 takes the lector).
And I respect the composer of this version and all of his work, but yes, I think this song is kind of copied.

@Gabrielvogel to me that I care....evangelion is better!!!!

Not badly done like the Dragonball movie travesty.

Prefered this subtitles than dubbed.
Damn it, when each company rewrites the dialogue.
I make my friends laugh at work when I hum this during crunch time.
Blows my mind thinking I first saw this almost 15 years ago now.
