Two years ago, Harry Patch died. He was the last infantry solider alive that had fought in the trenches and mud of WWI. Earlier this year, Claude Stanley Choules of the Australian navy died. The last known man to have been in active service.
Since it started in England in 1919, this will be the FIRST ever Remembrance day that has NO surviving WWI veterans still alive anywhere. Of all the millions who put on a uniform and went to that war almost 100 years ago, the last one has finally fallen.
I know I will get criticized for this, but I must say it: Whenever do the stories of the Central Powers get told? They lost the war, yes, but all we hear about is accounts from the winning side. Every time I have found some sort of account from a veteran from Austro-Hungary, Germany, or the Ottoman empire, it's just met with censorship or criticism. Those men sacrificed too, you know. They were never the evil Hun or the cursed Turk. Also, I say this because I am part German and I love Germany.
You believe all that? And what is your definition of innocent? There is no real record of gassings. Any gassings were actually for the control of lice and other diseases. My entire family gassed? In case you didn't get the hint, Im German. Ovens? When people die, something has to happen to the bodies. Germany is not wonderful anymore. It has become a bitch and immigrant haven. Germany no longer exists.
How do you think I feel when someone criticizes my people like that?
World War I has been described as the event by which Europe agreed to commit suicide, and I think that is correct. Most of the old monarchies and empires were taken out. As Stephen Ambrose pointed out, in many ways, "the world war" began in 1914, had a lengthy armistice from 1918 to 1939, and did not end until 1945. The primary victors of the great European civil war were two non-European nations: the United States and the USSR. Among the victors, Britain lost the most.
@mindspring57 Well if you count all the conflicts that occurred between 1918 and 1939 many of which pitted the axis/central powers and their ideologies against those of the future allied powers IE Italy invading Ethiopia, Japan invading China, The Spanish Civil War, The Russian Civil War, Armenian–Azerbaijani War, Silesian Uprisings ect ect there wasn't much of an armistice as it was a toned down but still very global conflict.
This is a moving reminder of a war that should never be forgotton; the carnage and the loss of a whole generation of men. My Great Uncle died at the battle of Loos (with the Argyls) in 1915... he was only a 19 year old Scottish lad and now he lies unknown in some field in northern France.
@HerrRytter shit i can't remember the name of it...plot had something to do with a guy protecting his brother in WWI. there's a clip on it with the title having to do with Passchendaele. But its not the canadian passchendaele movie.
Search the name Harry Patch. He was the last known surviving soldier in the world who actually fought in the trenches of WW1. He died this year in July. There are 2 or 3 others still alive, but they weren't in combat. Thinking of all the millions who marched into Europe's forests and farm lands, it's sad to know that after almost 100 years the last one has finally fallen. Lest We Forget.
I belive you are thinking of a different picture. The one at 1:43 was taken during WWI. There is a famous picture that is similar to that one of a loyalist being shot during the Spanish Civil War though. The picture is on wiki I belive. I think that is the one you are thinking of.
m1rock is right - this picture is in the Imperial War Museum and is of US troops in gas practice training prior to heading to the front. Definitely WWI and not Spanish Civil War.
True heroes these men were and yet our government is stripping everything that is British, these brave lads need to be honoured for their bravery, valour and courage.
Nice to see someone who remembers this war- it's pretty shocking to me that nobody remembers WWI, seeing as it's the major cause of WWII and it should have been a warning to the world of what could happen... This is a well-made video, I like how it transitions.
@LaikaCameBack I agree and disagree with what you say I disagree because they would not really be there, and they would not think of the memories that they experienced. I'm glad I was not there, rest in peace all those who died in both WWI and WWII. had not World War I occurred, nothing would be like now.
@mrdamntn And would not have existed if the Great War had not started. A series of stupid blunders by the Europeans, and, in my view, there was no need for the United States to become involved.
Well, there were what you might call "proto-Nazis". German nationalism was very strong, even since 1871 with the beginning of the German Empire. This was the first time in their history that they had a unified nation. Of course, this was a breeding ground for many politicians, including Adolf Hitler.
Excellent clip as always!I feel that it is rather sad that the world does not have more like-minded people like you..If it did,we would be seeing less wars in the world and instead, enjoy what our forefathers fought for:The War to End all Wars!
Mate, you've done a grand job there! Well done. Really liked some of that footage. The procession through the crosses at the end was powerful - not seen that before. You've been building up that stuff for a while now i can see. Nice job.
The First Rothschild World War.
Who was it exactly who the governments of Europe and further afield 'borrowed' the money from for this war? Yes, it was that Satanic family.

No criticism here for your opinion, Mr. Vov. Hitler & his henchmen were insane. Millions of innocents died.
The ovens. Is that not insane? Your entire family gassed? Germany has become a wonderful country, indeed.

My great-great grandfather fought in world war I.
He served in the Royal Bavarian 2nd Heavy-cavalry regiment „Erzherzog Franz Ferdinand von Österreich-Este".
Area ofuse was Ypres, Verdun and last the eastern front.
His son fought in world war 2. My great-grandfather. He died in Stalingrad.
And my dad works for the Bundeswehr.
when I finished school I will also go to the army.
then I am a soldier in the sixth generation.
I am proud of my ancestors.

By the way, the image at 1:43 is of the Spanish Civil War, not World War One. The Spanish Civil War happened 20 years after WW1.
