I have to say, I prefer the Shotokanized version. I do love Shito-ryu and Goju-ryu kata, but in this case I prefer my own style's version. :) In my personal opinion the Shotokan version is more dynamic and (dare I recognize the irony?) more fluid.
That's not to say that it's not a lovely kata in this form too, of course.
@MeanEyedCats Yeah, shotokan looks impressive- only problem - shotokan movements do not have realistic applications... This is the real thing - every move translates into several REALISTIC bunkais.
@Andris717 I can't quite agree with that. The basic Shotokan stances are not so useful. That I'm definitely aware of. However, as one progresses that definitely changes, and especially in kumite applications moreso than kata.
Then besides that, I've found that for me personally, the long stances, even being less applicable, helped me train my balance for when I use the more fluid, more useful stances that are more common in other styles.
@LILangels93 its the original version of Funakoshi's Gankaku. See how one of Funakoshi's ealiest students, Hironori Otsuka (founder Wado-Ryu), performs it. Just type in "Wado Otsuka Chinto".
Theres a jumping kick at 0:13. ..and there is a spinning jumping kick in some versions of kushanku (Chatnyara no kusankun for example). I hope this helps
this is completely different than the chinto i know!
