  • so I just made one of these last night and it's super loose :""(

  • Sweeeet!! Love it!!!

  • Great tutorial! I just started crocheting again after about 30 years and am excited to show my daughter how to do this stitch. I used this stitch back when I was about 11 to make cute little worms (I did the corkscrew stitch then did a regular single stitch back onto the last few chains at the end for the head. If I remember correctly I had the corkscrew go around 3-4 times). Glue on googly eyes and you're good to go! It would be cute on a gift or as a favor.

  • I love this!!

  • you are faboules and my request is to slow down in butterfly video

  • Very cool and seemed easy.

  • these are so easy to make and such fun but I dont know what I would do with them

  • The easiest thing I have ever made.

  • Sooo Cute! Awesome teaching style. Thanks for sharing.

  • Thanks for this. Delightful accent, too. I could listen to you for ages. :)

  • thank you so much, the way you explain it makes it look so easy, i'm gonna use it to decorate a baby hat for my 3 months old son. :)))

  • I was thinking about this stitch today remembering a little girls hat I use to make many years ago. Thanks now I can relearn this stitch.

  • Thanks for this idea/technique. Going to the store now so I can make me some earrings!

  • really cool idea....i was wondering how would or have u attached to base for an earring or even a ring...jus a thought...

  • I tried your flower video and it worked - and so did this!! Thanks a million. Your yarn is gorgeous and the opening visual is so inspiring! A bunch of these would look cool on a woolie hat!

  • Thank you... These are gonna be cute on lil girl scrunchies...

  • That is so cute <3 Thank you so much for this tut, will definitely try out =)

  • These are so cool! Do you think they would work using the smaller ply/weight thread? Like what you would use for doilies? I would like to try and make them to use on my fabric flowers. Thank you for sharing such a wonderfully, easy craft!

  • im working with costume design in my school play and ive got a great idea to made a wig of of red spirals for rarity ann, making her hair curly instead of straight, thank you so much!!!!!!! this is brilliant!!!

  • woo i would like to see this as a rug

  • Thank you for this video. I have seen other crochet corkscrews but yours is the most curly, and that is exactly what I wanted. :)

  • I'm glad I came across your tutorial. I've made these before but it was always hit or miss; I especially had trouble estimating the length. Now I know how to make them the same each time. Thanks for posting this. (BTW - they make great cat toys if you use the right yarn - I always preferred natural fibers if I thought the thing was going to get chewed up :) . Now, though, I have an idea for some necklaces made this way with crochet thread and beads. Hmm...)

  • a little one looks like a tiny rose

  • Me encantó el tutorial. Muy fácil y bien explicado. Muchas gracias por compartir. Saludos desde Argentina

  • they would make a great Christmas tree garland

  • I tried to do these twice I am not sure what I am doing wrong. UGH

  • yay i love your tutorial now i am about to go to the store and buy the supplies so i can try this

  • thank you , but how can i use it after making it

  • Yay! I made my first coil! I'm so excited! Thank you!

  • This is a great video. Can you give me some ideas on what to use these for.

  • AWESOME!!!! Thanks :)

  • @canadianchickable You're most welcome!!

  • I recently saw a baby wreath made of yarn that was just beautiful and it the yarn was nothing but chains. It was glued to a circle of wire and the wire was wrapped with batting. I was told that it is in the most recent Crochet book by Vanna White - but Ben Franklin did not have the book yet and I cannot seem to locate it online, can someone please send me information on how to make this? I wanted to make it for my niece. Thanks!!

  • great for hats, gonna give this a go, thankyou for sharing

  • @meredithgmail Hi there! Sorry about the delay in replying. I'm so glad you loved my tutorial. This stitch has the "X-Factor" alright! Even though I don't like my voice on video, it's really nice to receive a compliment. Now the year's underway I'm working on the next video. Take care!!!!

  • Thanks so much! I'm a long time crocheter but never have made the corkscrew as I had not made anything requiring them. Recently I have started making infant/children's hats and saw some online for sale that had the little corkscrews as a topper for the hat...I did not know how to make them, but thanks to you now I do!!! :)))

  • @Tvghensley That's great! I'm glad I could show you, take care.

  • Awesomely simply tutorial! My mom was given a version of one of these as a bookmark and I've wanted to figure this out for a long time - thanks for posting!

  • @Lovelybones1966 Sorry that you feel it's too fast. I could only suggest that you watch it a few times or pause the video as you go. I've mostly had positive feedback, but I'll take yours into consideration for my next video, cheers.

  • Do it slow for beginners dang you going so fast

  • What do you use them for?

  • @ilovemylongnails Anything you like! If you scroll through these comments there are actually lots of ideas and suggestions. Like hair for a doll, as a fringe on a scarf or afghan, as the arms and legs of a crocheted doll. Some people have used it to make earrings, hope this helps.

  • Thank you!!! These are awesome and i can't wait to try it!

  • @cakcow33 So glad you like them, happy crocheting!!

  • This is the best tutorial !! I have wanted to make these for years but have been unable to do so, even using books. Your tutorial has made it so very simple and easy, now I wonder why I could never do it. Thank you. Now all I want to do is make little things using this gorgeous stitch, especially in the yarn you suggested. Thank you for sharing, especially for those who find it difficult to learn.

  • @LittleRobotNX01 Hi there! WOW! Thank-you so much for your wonderful comment, I'm so happy that I was able to help you learn this fun stitch. One of the reasons I make my videos the way I do is because this is also how I best learn new things. All the best and I appreciate your comments and support.

  • I think it's a cute idea but what do you do with then?

  • @MsBananabutt If you read through these comments you can see some of the great ideas for these corkscrews other viewers have come up with. Some ideas are: as a hair decoration, legs and arms on a doll or crocheted octopus, small ones as earrings..etc... Hope these helps. Cheers.

  • i can not learn this!!! :( :( :( >.<

  • @mogoshark Keep trying! Just watch and pause the video a few times, I'm sure you'll be able to do it!

  • @SHOPETSY

    thanks

  • good idea for earrings

  • @Reggay1000 Thanks! Especially if you use a finer yarn and hook size.

  • good idea for earrings

  • good job wat is the size of this thread

  • @najeska1 Thanks, I'm from Australia, so I used an 8ply acrylic yarn, which I believe is approximately a sport weight - double knit. You can use any size yarn/needle as long as the tension is firm enough to form the corkscrew. Hope this helps.

  • Awesome, ThankYou!!!

  • @bitemyram You're welcome, glad you like it!

  • ooo im thinking about making a few of these and making them into earrings. i think it would be cute ^_^

  • @bjababy1 That sounds like a great idea! Super cute!

  • hheeeey! u can sure crochet good! when i saw this video i was soo inspired! im almost thirteen so me and my twin sister are going to move into different rooms...and im going to hang those corkscrews all around my room! thnx for teaching me!

  • @Qu33nL33 Thank-you! I hope you enjoy making them as much as I have!

  • I am still trying . I made a few but the are not very tight and springie will just keep at it and thanks . O yea my kids love to play with them lol.

  • @logojoogle Hi there, thanks for your comment. If you're still finding them to be a little loose and not springy, I might suggest that you use a different 'stiffer' yarn, and/or reduce your hook size, hope this helps and enjoy!!

  • OMY gosh i l0ve it .... super fun!!!!

  • @ALETHEIA8881 You're welcome...they are a LOT of fun and addictive to make.

  • Thank you for the fun thing to learn. U are a good teacher.

  • @logojoogle Thank-you so much! It's support from people like yourself that makes me want to keep making videos! Cheers, and thanks for your support.

  • the amazing clear instructions and your calm clear voice really did the trick thank you so much

  • @Sonja00Ebonheart Hey there sonja, thanks so much for your feedback, I always look to improve my videos, it's nice to know when something works and is appreciated. Have a great day!! :)

  • One of my grade school teachers made these. She added google eyes on the beginning and had a long chain at the end. She called them bookworms (they were bookmarks).

  • @onebluemoon That is so cool!! I hadn't thought of using them that way...You could make some now! Cheers...

  • I love doing these and if you make one and then make another without cutting the yarn and with a bit of chain in the middle they are lovely for little girls hair.

  • @jamk37 That sounds great! I love all the ideas people come up with, cheers!!

  • these are great, can't wait to make some, thanks for the tutorial! i can imagine them making a really unique `beaded` curtain type of effect, it would be so cute in a kids room :)

  • Hey these are fun ! I have added some outta rows to mine in different colours to make it wider and its so funky lol... kids just love em... they tie them on their school bags and hand out to friends at school :) Helps to pass time when there is nothing on tv and no housework that needs doing. Have to go shopping for more colours though. Thank you for your video's... they are so much better than learning off alien looking pattern books lol

  • @10Possum10 Hey there! So glad you love them, I must have made about 20 in 2 days when I first made them!!

  • excellent!

  • @mydriel333 Thank-you! ;)

  • What would you use these for?

  • @mixaleena Anything really, let your imagination soar! People have used them as the fringe on a scarf, the legs of an octopus or doll, doll's hair. Also as a decoration on a hair accessory like a scrunchie. Hope this helps.

  • thank you! i will be able to use this on my grand kids toys! yay!!

  • @ohsewdizzy Fantastic! They make good hair for a doll too!

  • Thanks so much, awesome tutorial! Super easy to follow, and fast to make!

  • @charleighb2008

You're welcome, be warned though, you'll want to make a lot of them!

  • Really helpfull tutorial!!!

But I think I didn't get the last step.... :/

Where did you do the last stitch?

  • Hi! Glad you like the tutorial. In the last step you are securing off the end of the spiral to make it look neater. Where you exactly place this stitch isn't too important, but around the centre is a good place. You could skip this last step if you like and just cut your thread and tie it off. I hope this helps.

  • Ooow i got it now ;)

Thank you so much for the help! ^^

  • Great! You're welcome.

  • WOW. you made that look so easy. thank you so much.

  • You're welcome!

  • thank u,I made it :*

  • That's great! You can make so many things with these crocheted corkscrews.

  • Thank u so much for posting.

  • You're welcome, happy crafting!!

  • My curl twists so that it's going the wrong direction a couple times. Am I twisting the original chain? I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Any help would be most appreciated.

  • As you stitch up the chain, be sure to keep in the same side of the chain, in consecutive stitches. from the first or second lot of four stitches, you should start to notice the spiral appearing, help it out by twisting it in the one direction. I've found if you keep doing this as you go, it tends to keep curled.

  • When I've shown people how to do this, mistakes happen when the yarn is too thick or chunky, or even too lacy and fine. I'd recommend a fairly plain yarn, that you would use for an afghan, and hook size to match. I hope this helps, good luck!!

  • How to crochet two both sides at end for hair?

  • Are you making something for a hair decoration, or are you making dolls hair?

  • I'm trying make for my girl's hair. I want to crochet two sides corkscrew with about 3 inches chain in middle to tie on ponytail.

  • Let me have a try, I'll play around with some yarn and let you know how it works out.

  • love this, Thanks!!

  • You're welcome!

  • Thank You so much for this tutorial. These are so cute. I will be having alot of fun making these. I'm so glad we have these videos to learn from. Thanks again!

  • So glad you enjoy them, I've learnt a lot off others videos too! Cheers...

  • Thanks for this video. I have always wanted to know how to do this!

  • You're welcome, I was happy to share, when I found out how to do it too!! They can be addictive!! Happy crafting!!

  • I crocheted a lot of dresses for my daughter's American Girl doll and for one I made about 20 of these corkscrews and attached them at staggered heights around the waist as a skirt. It turned out incredibly! I also made one from a leftover bit of my favorite yarn and use it as a keychain. I've got more plans hatching to use these as embellishments for my own clothing. Thanks so much for this tutorial!

  • You're truly welcome, the dress you made sounds amazing!! Well done, keep up the crafting! ;)

  • Nice :) Now I can make that little critter in my head, lol. I have been crocheting for about 15 years, and I usually focus on Aran style and thread work. Oddly enough, I never learned how to do this, but then granny squares were difficult for me to get right and didn't learn them for two years, lol. Thanks so much for posting this!

  • Thank-you so much! That's very kind, it's nice to give inspiration to others, when I get lots here on you tube too! Happy crafting... good luck with the little critter! ;)

  • OK! I finished my first corkscrew (purple)! It came out cute. I can see where I missed loops to crochet into but I will keep working on them so that they will get better and better. I just got a new mac so when I figure out how to post a reply vid or send you some pics I will. God bless...

  • Yeah!!! Go profgeorge - I think that's great, did I mention they're heaps of fun and you can't stop making them??? ;) And the Mac is great, I only use them, you'll have fun making vids....cheers!!!

  • OK...I took the bait and tried to do these corkscrews! :) They are coming out OK...my problem is finding each next hole to crochet into...I noticed that the chain was not curling up. Then I realized that I was "skipping" loops to crochet into. :) I am not going to give up though. I will let you know when I get "awesome" enough to try the butterflies! Thanks again!!!!

  • Don't give up! Just keep trying - you'll get it and they'll be fabulous!

  • I soooooooo appreciate your encouragement!!! You are so kind.

  • No worries, I love how people from all over the world can unite in ways that wouldn't have been dreamt of, to help each other create and make. I just learnt how to make a ripple pattern from Attic24 blog! I'm so excited that I FINALLY know how to make it. I'm hoping to buy some lovely yarn on holidays, and make a nice blanket. Take care and crochet like mad!!!

  • this is lovely!

Perhaps I can make a few hair clips with these curls. It would be nice 'dreadlocks'.

  • Sounds awesome!!!! ;)

  • THANKS!!!THANKS!!!THANKS!!!!

  • You're welcome!

  • Thanks for the video. This is very good for making a lace for graduation. Instead of flowers, it would just be yarns.

  • Thank-you - that sounds like a great idea!

  • could you post a video on how to do that if you dont already have one posted thank you!

  • what would u guys suggest on how to make this into a toy for a 1 month old baby girl shes my neice please email me for any suggestions

  • Hi there, I made a teddy bear by crocheting a basic ball shape, narrowing for the neck, then widening again to make another ball shape for the head. I made curly corkscrew legs and arms. It was then a simple case of stitching some dots for eyes, and a ribbon for a bow tie, stitched down of course so it's safe for little ones. I wouldn't use buttons. My user name on flicker is Quoin, I have a photo there.Good luck!!

  • what do you used Corkscrews for in crochet ? : )

  • Hi there! I made these firstly for fun, then I used them in a hyperbolic crochet coral reef exhibit as part of the 'sea-life' display. Other people have told me that they intend to use them as the fringe on a scarf. I've also used them as the arms and legs of a teddy bear. Hope this helps!

  • yes thank you very much : )

  • I am thinking about doing some of these on the end of a scarf to give it a fun and unique look.

  • That sounds really good! It would definitely give it a unique look. All the best.

  • OMG! I've been looking for this! LOL! Thanks for sharing! I know how to crochet so this is going to def boost that creative side!

  • You're Welcome! It's great to know that people are enjoying this so much. Get crocheting!! ;)

  • This is a great peice of work!!! WOUNDERFUL JOB MA'AM

  • Thankyou so much crochetstar12!!! Working on the next video now, have a great day and happy crafting!

  • This is very cute! It would make great arms and legs on a doll.. Thank you for sharing this. I will definitely make some of these. :)

  • Thank-you jgirl115! It's one of those things that when you know how to do it, you just can't wait to make lots of them! Have fun...:)

  • This is really cute! I'm gonna try too :D

  • Thank-you! Have fun and Happy crafting...

  • On your directions it says multiple of 4 but then u say chain 31. Is it a multiple of 4 + something?

  • Hi hg1bbs. The 31 is just the length I chose to make this corkscrew, you can make it as long or short as you like, the key is to make the chain approximately twice the length you want the finished corkscrew to be. 4 is the number of double crochets (US = single crochets) you do into each stitch. Hope this helps, I would watch the video a couple of times, and pause it as you go. Cheers!

  • Great video; instructions given very clearly. Could you give advice concerning sewing spirals onto knitted or crocheted items? I'd like to try making some tiny ones for trim on booties for needy newborns; what's best way to sew them on? Thanks from Becky Jo

  • Hi Becky! Thanks for your feedback. I would be inclined to crochet them directly from the bootie, as part of the construction. That way they can't detach. If knitted, get a crochet hook, and crochet a row around the bootie, either top cuff or bottom edge. Then, using this as a base for the corkscrews, chain off the desired length, and work corkscrew back down chain. This will bring you back to the edge, then make one or a few single crochet, then repeat corkscrew. Hope this helps Happy crafting!
