  • Glorious.

  • how skiny is elvis costello ??? i hope he is fine....beautiful mix with the CASE

  • magic perfomance :-)

  • Damn, I love Spectacle. I hope Elvis does another season. Soon.

  • @daf827 dont think it will happen :-.(

  • holy crap this is good, the keyboardist steals the show here imo, Neko is awesome and Elvis is the man.

  • Thx for posting! I watched this edition of Spectacle and was totally blown away by Neko, and this song. Between this and the Harry Nilsson song, she was brilliant. Elvis and Steve Nieve's accompaniment is sensational.

  • Neko is number 1 strongest influence on me musically than anyone else! I've loved her since I saw her open with Nick Cave in 2001 at the mpls. theater! And Screw those blonde bitches that were making fun of her, before I even saw her perform, I knew I was going to like her because of these nay saying a few rows behind me! I love you NEKO! And just to explain obvious weirdness with my youtube name. My name is Nicolle. Tho, I am a big fan, I am NOT a cyber-stalker. lol

  • Costello really brings his A-game with that whammy bar.

  • This is as good at it gets at so many levels...

  • i think she drew inspiration from being on tour constantly and the prison work crews that often work as sanitation for festivals. but the fact that she makes it sounds so haunting it truly inspired.

  • there is no one else on the planet, every one else please leave

  • WOW.

  • OMG, so good. Thanks uploader!

  • She does a pitch-perfect rendition and I'm glad to hear such good sound in a live video. It's interesting to hear it with EC's interpretation. Usually Neko keeps the instruments reigned in. I like it.

  • Pretty big compliment having Elvis Costello play the fuck out of your song

  • She is absolutely my favorite female musician of all time. This version gives me goosebumps.

  • Love Neko, she is the real deal...what a great song and performance. I still remember Neko announcing at the practice pad in the storage place on Richards Street in Vancouver that she was gonna do country music...boy did she ever show us!

  • @snakelake You were around for her early days in Vancouver? I'd like to hear more. I always wondered if she stood out from the rest at that time.

  • I'm always a little amused at myself when I try to "Like" a video, and the number doesn't increase, meaning, I probably already "Liked" it at some point. I just /really/ like it.

  • Interesting to see one of the coolest Americana/Roots chicks, Neko Case, with the most uninteresting lame wanna-be one, Sheryl Crow, on the same stage. Yes Sheryl you can go home and count all of your money and Grammys but you'll NEVER be an artist of Neko Case's magnitude. Neko Case has the best Country voice since Patsy Cline or Brenda Lee, hands down.

  • Cool version.

  • i'm gonna go ahead and say 'Epic' for this one!

  • I've been a folk and alternative music fan for almost fifty years, and dare I say it? I rate Neko with Dylan, Guthry, and Seeger. Her lyrics are sometimes haunting, and always thought-out, and poignant. She is socially conscious but never sappy. Some of her arrangements, including this one, rival those of the Beatles. I love the harmonies she uses-many times as much as Neko's singing. Neko you have added significant joy to my life.

  • @ehairgrove Good comment. As an old-timer myself I can appreciate the gravity of your opinion. I don't think I've ever heard a bad word about her song-writing, singing or professionalism. One reviewer did bemoan the fact that many of her newer songs are too short, but he probably is like me in that he just wants to songs to never end.

  • OH yah! Real Music lives!

  • I love her long legs and her foxy eyes!

  • FREAKING AMAZING! Love her.

  • Spring of 1981 I was dragged to the Northrup auditorium to see El and the Attractions. No idea who they were. Left that night dumbfounded...and asking who was that madman on keys? Steve Nieve......That name I've always remembered.

  • 75% chance I'll lose it listening to anything by this lady.

  • This was fucking amazing.

  • And thanks for sharing, from Italy I had absolutely no other way to see this otherwise.

  • Can I download the video for the show somewhere?

    Please? :)

  • A 3rd season, please, Mr. Costello. This is the best show on TV, IMO.

  • @x2plex ...agreed, i am hoping for season 3 as well...

  • sheryl's thinin..i thought i had to follow swift!ercyrus!..not this girl!!

  • @walterbrob What the hell are you on about?

  • Are they planning on releasing this as an album? Soooooo good.

  • That keyboardist gets -50 indie cred points for that stringed interlude.

  • Haunting.

  • The Peak of Spectacle so far, Neko is so great.

  • thank you neko

  • what a beauty

  • Neko is a walking hard on.

  • Amazing.

  • 4:46 Neko looks at Elvis like, “WTF are you doing with that guitar, man, that's crazy good!”

At 5:06 you can hear her say, "Wow!”

  • "My cheek is frozen to the floor" . "Prison girls are not impressed, they're the ones who have to clean this mess." Sounds to me like she dies and the girls have to tidy up after her. This is like my 31st viewing .

  • I love her long shadows and her gun powder eyes.

  • I think about 10 of the current 584 views of this clip are mine. Time stops whenever I see it, I mean, this is a great performance. Thanks for uploading it!

  • @anleja about 20 of the veiws are mine. I watched this episode on The Sundance channel with closed caption so I could read along while she sang. What a depressing song. I think she kills herslef and the prison girls have to clean up after her. This is the very best version. I want this for my Ipod.I also like Jesse Sexsmith's version of Everyday I write the book, accompanied by E,C. himself on this same episode of Spectacle.

  • @dcarr84 I mean Ron Sexsmith.

  • @dcarr84 Haha, I think I am at about 20 views at this point a week later. I've read the lyrics and while the meaning is not very obvious, I think you have an interesting interpretation, it does kind of sound like dying, as if she is herself so insignificant that the greatest impact she could make on anyone is giving them irritation if she were to kill herself. Her lyrics are so ambiguous, one of the reasons I love them so much.

  • @dcarr84 An interesting interpretation and I have a feeling your right, or very close. I also know that she's a movie buff and I've always wondered if she's singing about those great B-movies from the 50's and 60's about prison girls. They usually had dark lighting with long shadows cast by single light bulbs and the girls had dark, sexy eye shadow makeup.

  • thanks for uploading this, i really wanted to see it, and it didn't dissappoint. awesome stuff, beautiful lyrics, great arrangement, Neko is magnificent!

  • This is the best performance I have seen by anyone in a very long while.

  • Haunting version...Elvis' whammy is sublime. Hard to listen to the studio version now.

  • @offerout I think her original version is much better. Not to say I don't like this one.

  • @offerout almost impossible

  • @offerout Hell, it's hard to listen to other ARTISTS now

  • I've been waiting for months for someone to upload this, so thanks!

  • Finally !

  • So awesome to see this uploaded!

  • Stone cold fox, that Neko.
