  • Hi mate, I finally bought this camera, and this was the video that made me do it. So thanks a lot!

PD: I might have some mistake, I'm argentine. Awesome video by the way!

  • @Pepomd Thanks for the comment, hope you enjoy your new camera.

  • beautiful video clips

  • @mzola22 thankyou.

  • does the rode videomic work with this? please answer!

  • @theusnavymonster yes it does if you use a 3.5mm to 2.5mm stero adaptor. I use it.

  • @ghough12 ok thanks, please answer again! where can I find one of these adaptors? I can't find one anywhere!

  • @theusnavymonster Hi, you will find these at most electronic shops. Maplin is your best option they have the 2.5mm Stereo Plug to 3.5mm Stereo Socket Adaptor product code FA94C at £2.59. If you have difficulty let me know I can get one and post to you. Graham

  • @ghough12 Thanks! Only problem is it looks like the link you have given me converts a 2.5mm cable to a 3.5mm socket...

  • @theusnavymonster No the code: FA94C is a 2.5mm plug which is the right size for the FZ100 and the socket is 3.5mm correct for the rode video mike. Graham

  • @ghough12 I have purchased the adapter, and have received it. But I haven't got the VideoMic yet. I am extremely scared that it isn't compatible...unless you use this one. If this is not the one you use, could you send me the link to it? Then again, I have no idea if this works!!

  • @theusnavymonster Hi, the maplin code FA94C is the one i use, it is a 2.5mm male plug with inbuilt 3.5mm stereo socket. The rode video mike has a 3.5mm plug, the same size as ordinary earpieces for walkmans etc. The Panasonic cameras all take a 2.5mm plug to be compatible with their MS-1 mike. To ease the strain on the socket you could make your own lead from a 2.5mm plug, a 3.5mm inline socket and a short length of 3 core screened cable. I use my adaptor on 3 cameras and 1 camcorder no probs

  • @ghough12 Ok...is this the one you use? - on THIS camera (the Fz100)?.Apparently I heard that you can only use the Ms1 on this camera!!

  • @theusnavymonster Don't believe what you hear. There is nothing special about MS-1 except is expensive price tag! Its quality is Ok ( i have a ms-1) but doesn't come close to the performance of the rode viseo mike with its options to set gain levels, cut off frequencies etc. I used both mikes with the fz100 before i sold it to get the pansonic GH2 which also supports ms-1 and a 2.5mm socket.

  • @ghough12 ....and you used this adapter? Great! Fantastic! You have been the best help of anyone anywhere! You just got subscribed to! :)

  • @theusnavymonster Thanks, I'm going to do a short video comparison of the Ms-1, the rode video mike and the zoom h2 with the panasonic cameras and show the different connectivity methods as well as sound quality

  • @ghough12 please make it asap!!! :D

  • @theusnavymonster should be uploaded tonight.

  • @ghough12 Fantastic. Also, one more baffling thing, the maplin adapter is a "STEREO" plug adapter, and isn't the VideoMic a Mono microphone? Extremely contradictory, no? :)

  • @theusnavymonster Yes, this mike is basically a shotgun mike so stereo separation isn't normally needed as the sound source is normally concentrated. The mike is wire 2 channel so the sound is on both L+R channels and centred. Its great for interviews and situations where you want to isolate the sound source from the ambient noise. If you want wider sound you need a mike like the rode stereo video mike which is designed for more closer all round sound collection.

  • @ghough12 Sorry for late reply, but Maplin clerk said it is unlikely to work at all or as it should. Another thing: where on Earth do you get this kind of money for all this equipment? :) Rory and Matthew

  • @theusnavymonster What are you referring to that is unlikely to work, I'm curious now. Graham

  • @ghough12 The fact that its a stereo adapter and the mic is mono. Will try anyway :) More curious to know where you get the kind of money for all the cameras you have!

  • @theusnavymonster Maplin people leave a lot to be desired then! The mike is wired as both left and right channels from the single mike capsule so in effect the mike is "pseudo" stereo. The proof it works is in the video I made which used that adaptor! I worked hard during my working career and now i play hard. Buying and selling cameras gives me a buzz ( but i buy more than i sell!) being able to test each one to its limit. I am careful with my money hence the many diy projects where i can save

  • @ghough12 Wow, that was inspirational. I believe you! I'm a complete camera-hypochondriac when it comes to technical business! Your expertise in this subject may have saved me hundreds - in money and worry! I am also going to mount the mic on a Rode 2m Micro Boompole. Any thoughts on that?

  • @theusnavymonster Thanks again, The boom pole is aluminium and extends out to 10feet. Its obviously designed for the job, however me being me would say unless you need 10feet i would look at telescopic poles for floor cleaning mops and give you about 4feet. They are only £2 to £3, longer ones can be had for decorating rollers extending upto about 6foot. It only need a hole drilled and 1/4 whitworth bolt and the jobs done. Sounds like my next "how to" video suggestion here!

  • @theusnavymonster The only problem you might get with using a boom pole is thatyou will need to extend the mike lead by about 5 metres to allow the cable to be wrapped round the pole and some slack to camera. As the mike is whats called an unbalanced mike you may get issues with noise pick up especially mains hum if your near power equipment. I need to check that out by making up a cable that long and trying it in various places.

  • @ghough12 I understand where you're coming from, Graham. Many of my friends and movie colleagues have suggested I buy a paint extension pole or something like that, but I am not willing to do DIY stuff at Christmas! A boompole that extends to 10 feet - is this the micro boompole you mean? - would be great as the VideoMic is a directional one. I must have the boompole, as my project (which begins 28th Dec) needs to have audible sound and vital dialogue.

  • @ghough12 I need the mic to go from person to person as it is a crime film. I am also ecstatic today as I have finally ordered the Rode VideoMic + Windjammer = £101.95. I am going to get a 3.5mm extension by Rode from Amazon (3m). Any views on that? :) R + M

  • @theusnavymonster That extension is Ok as it is double screened. You can get much cheaper ones but they are really only headphone extension cables designed for low impedance units so hum isn't a problem here. If I was nearer I'd offer to make you a lightweight pole, its really just a few minutes work and would save you £70 or so on the rode micro boom but I can see where you're at. Again the windjammer can be made using identical fabric for about £10 but thats the indie film maker at work again.

  • @ghough12 The Micro Boompole is only £33 so will PROBABLY get that. Also, how would you attach the mic to the pole? :) R+M

  • @theusnavymonster On the underside of the mike are 2 threaded holes, one for 1/4inch and the other 3/8inch mounting studs. Simple screw the mike onto the boom pole threaded end and you are away!

  • @ghough12 How do I screw it? (Maybe sounds a little too ambiguous!) I mean, does it come with screws or what? R+M :)

  • @theusnavymonster The micro boom pole has 1/4 threaded stud at the end of it and this simply screws into the 1/4 threaded hole in the baseplate of the rode video mike

  • @ghough12 ohhhh...that makes sense. Just to hear your opinion, for making a crime movie, where dialogue is quite important, which would you get...Rode VideoMic, StereoMic or any other? R+M :)

  • @theusnavymonster The video mike is probably good enough to capture the dialog being slightly directional.I thought you had ordered the video mike and wind jammer.

  • @ghough12 I have, but it has not come yet. I'm just curious to know whether the NTG or StereoMic would be better :) R+M

  • Hey beautiful shots and beatuiful place! Where is it? Just for curiosity :)

  • @Pepomd Hi, it was just filmed in my back garden on a very wet day!

  • @ghough12 Thanks for answering! But.. Where do you live? haha looks awesome

  • @Pepomd This is Horwich, in the United Kingdom, 20 miles from Manchester.

  • @MrBioluminescence the native files are .mts which will open and edit in all versions of vegas from 8 onwards. I use vegas 9 and use 1080p files as well as the 1080i from the fz100 without any problem on a dual core pc

  • great framing, beautiful shots..! love looking at it.

  • @paulmgn0037 Thanks very much, appreciate your comment

  • @ghough12 hi i already have this camera, but the aperture doesn't work very well. when i get in front of it it doesn't work, but when i am really close or zoomed in, it does work! can u help?

  • what wide angle lens adaptor do you recommend for this camera? What one will fit?

  • @anygoodatdancin The thread of the lens is 52mm so I would consider using the 0.75x Digital King WA adaptor as it has a nice large front element so nice light collection and virtually no vignetting.

  • CHECK MY VIDEO FOR A FULL 1080P VIDEO TEST OF THE PANASONIC LUMIX FZ100..... /watch?v=spiVsWwL43M&feature=channel_video_title

    LIKE AND COMMENT! :)

  • cool, i want the same, this is original microphone, or you use another separated?

  • @MrCretuStefan Hi, this is the internal mike used to record these clips

  • Looks good

  • @buttafinguz thanks for viewing

  • @MyBonnie128 Well to be correct it isn't a DSLR its technically a "bridge" camera. The difference being this has a fixed lens where the dslr has the possibility of using interchangable lenses. if you stick to the iA intellegent automatic mode until you get used to using it it I am sure you will be able to se its true potential

  • Hi does this shoot @ 1080 at 60p and 30p as well?? Im so confused

  • Hi. Can I ask you, how the hell do you get these videos onto your PC? I can't see them on the thumbnails when I go onto my memory card, I can only see the photos and high speed movies..! I use windows vista.

I've used the supplied software so can view them there but I want to put them onto my PC so I can edit them using other software..

Any help would be much appreciated!

  • Ok yah your right it is 30fps, my fault, i uploaded directly to photofunstudio and the properties said, 30fps, 1080i AVCHD at 30fps , thanks for the help, i guess it was the freeware software that i used

  • @vwlover94 Sorted!

  • I also will say that I originally had boughten the FZ40 but due to screen issues I told Panasonic to replace it with the fz100 so they did, and sent me the fz100 I have no clue of where this camera is originally from :D it's so weird but giving the info, looks to be NTSC ;)

  • @vwlover94 If you are using windows 7, what does windows report the frame rate to be whwn you click on an .mts file? If its NTSC then it has to be 30fps or you would have problems viewing your clips on a tv! Did you load photofunstudio, it also can tell you the frame rates.

  • @ghough12 ok then ill try photofunstudio, and see what it says ;)

  • Yeah the recording limit is 59 minutes or more depending on my card capacity, I also found a small triangle symbol on the bottom of the camera serial tag and a "US" tag next to it, could that say that it's USA right, but what I'm lost on is why is it 25fps instead of 30 fps or perhaps my software is telling 25fps when in reality it's 30fps, continué..

  • Hey graham its me allan, I have a question, i live in the U.S and everytime I upload my AVCHD videos recorded at FSH and 1080i to my pc, the frame rate says 25fps, why? isnt it suppose to be 30p, or 60i? im also getting a little jitter when playback , could that be my pc performence , also i use freemake converter to convert my avchd files to wmv or anything else and when converted the jitter goes away, but why are the frames 25fps thats my concern, thanks ;).

  • @vwlover94 A couple of things spring to mind. If the camera was purchased in Europe then the output is PAL and 25fps I think this is hard coded into the camera along with the 29mins 59 second record limit. What is your video out set to? If it is NTSC ( which it should be for USA) then you should have 30p 60i frame rate. If its PAL that would explain your situation but at thge moment i wouldn't know how to reset it to NTSC as that option seems grayed out!

  • How is the battery?

  • @Mikbage It depends alot on the type of filming, with photuse only probably over 200 shots with using zoom to frame. Video I think you would be pushing it to get 1hr continuous.

  • im in love with this camera now! ty for the test footage. does it come with any programs?

  • @swtazzpnoy You get a program called photofunstudio which allows you to view the images from the camera or the sdhc card and also allows some basic edits of the video and abilility to write them to sdhc or dvd disc and also make a dvd slide show from the images

  • @ghough12 any cons or complaints about this camera for you so far? any mic problems?

  • this is recored in 1080i? how am i watching this on 1080p? do you have other options that you can record in?

  • Is it difficult to achieve this quality with this camera?

  • @hWarlock234 Not at all, this was the camera straight from the box and just use the movie button. No special settings were used and no post processing of the camera file.

You can improve by changing camera settings like contrast and saturation or do this in your edit software if yoy think its needed

  • @AugerFilms In this test I was using Grass valley's Edius 5.22 rendering to 8Mbps WMV file

  • Hi, I am looking at getting a decent quality camera/camcorder which films in HD (not bothered about 1080p) but must be 50/60fps.. Is it worth getting a camera like this one/FZ45 or getting a camcorder? My budget is around £300 and the fz45 is £240.. Wouldnt really be using it to take photos! Would be using it for sports like downhill mountain biking.. Thanks

  • @FerribyFlyers If your thinking of mounting this type of camera to your helmet/bike then I would advise you against this, the optical stabilisation would not tolerate such violent movement and would probably self destruct. For thid you need the kodak playsport or similar ruggedised camera. If you want to just film from the trackside then yes the fz45 would do it, but be ware of low light noise in your forest trails. You may be better considering a faster lens like the sony hx9v camera

  • @ghough12 Thanks for the quick reply! I already use a GoPro HD for mountain on my bike/helmet so it would be alongside the trails usually inside wooded areas but often in the open as well. What do you mean by faster lens? And would you reccommend a camcorder over a digital camera? Cause I have been disappointed with budget camcorder footage on youtube! Also is the Fz45/fz1000 pretty poor in low light conditions? Thanks again!

  • @FerribyFlyers Hi, a faster lens means a bigger aperture, the bigger the aperture the more light the camera can allow in and that means it doesn't need to use as much electronic gain to get the right exposure. This equates to lower video noise. The Fz100/45 have apertures of f2.8 at wide angle so providing you don't use any zoom they will give decent results in your off track situation. If you zoom even slightly the aperture goes down to f4 which is half as much light getting through

  • @FerribyFlyers ...continued... A camcorder is designed to give better video performance and usually has a faster ( bigger aperture ) lens. The budget cameras usually have poor optics so i no doubt the IQ is poor. Something like Panasonic S70 or T70 fall within your budget a local dealer should allow you to take a sdhc card and let you shoot some clips then you can review them at home and make a better choice. The Fz45 (ccd) suffers highlight streaks so watch out for this if you choose this model

  • @ghough12 Thanks again for your quick response!

Like someone commented earlier, it would be great to be able to get the blurry background with clear focused point video. But I realize it comes at a cost and the Canon 550d is not cheap!

What would be the next best bet do you think, a camcorder like for example the JVC - GZH M445 (which I have read some great reviews on)

The Fz45/100? (in between SLR size and compact)

A more compact camera like the sony hx9v you suggested?

  • @ghough12 continued..

Or would you recommend spending an extra £60 and getting the the Panasonic Lumix G2 (for £360).. However I do think that could be quite an expensive option, especially when I'm just getting into videoing!

    Thanks again!

  • @FerribyFlyers the jvc m445 has electronic image stabilsation which is nowhere as good as optical stabilisation (imho) so even though it looks impressive i wouldn't take this one. The g2 does give you a better image sensor ( micro four thirds) and avchd 720p recording. It has only 14-45 ( or 28-90 35mm zoom eq) on the f3.5 kit lens. for your sport i would keep at the wide angle end anyway. It will give you good stills as well. The sony hx9v has better video (1080p) and lens though! Tough choice

  • @ghough12 thanks for you help! I think I am going to go for the Sony HX9V, easier to stick in my bike bag, decent quality footage and reasonable price from play.com! One last question though, how does the HX9V quality compare to the FZ100? It's difficult to tell on youtube.. Thanks!

  • @FerribyFlyers From what I've seen the quality is better from the hx9v as its 1080p as opposed to 1080i on the fz100. It has the back illuminated sensor which also helps to increase sharpness and decrease noise. It has the best reviews for video quality of all the current compacts so it is sure a contender. its at £290 at simply electronics and the spare battery is £15

  • @EmmetShanahanTV You are talking "shallow depth of field" This is only achievable via 2 methods. With a short focal length lens you need a large aperture sya f1.4 on a 50mm lens or using telephoto lens at agreater distance to subject. This also depends on the size of camera sensor. With the FZ100 its a small sensor so its really hard to get this effect with the aperture available at wide angle. You need a larger format camera to do this effectively I'm affraid. The small format compacts wont.

  • @EmmetShanahanTV Hi Emmet. Well you have to remember this is primarily a stills camera which has video capability. It needs A LOT OF LIGHT to be able to record noise free video. From your first video upload I guess you are just using window light which probably isn't going to be enough. If you can get 1/50 sec at f5.6 and iso 200 then you have enough light to get good video. I generally shoot with +1 on sharpness and -2 on noise reduction and +1 on saturation applied to the standard mode.

  • does it autofocus while recording?

  • @ciobeautyx3 yes, autofocus and zoom are both possible.

  • wow, very sharp!

  • Do you know if this camera is good for taking pictures of dogs? like close ups. Me and my sister go to our local shelter and take pictures and video's of the dogs and cats.

  • @dkfhrdfjnfdg I would recommend the FZ45 instead as the new sensor of the FZ100 is not as good as teh CCD sensor of the FZ45 or the older FZ38 model.

  • @EmmetShanahanTV See the camera does lie!

  • what mode do you use because i have the same camera and my video's aren't as clear

  • @Kewdaysk8 I use the P setting then adjust iso to no more than 400 (prefer 100 if enough light) then use rear dial to set exposure giving a shutter speed of 1/100sec. Hope that helps

  • cooooooooooool

  • @10mism Thanks for viewing and comment.

  • Its very good video

  • wow!!!!!!!!!!!!! wonderful hd!

  • @BOGDANyIIIKA Thanks for viewing and comment.

  • good video

  • @MrLugas03 Thanks for that!

  • can I use external flash with this camera ? , cause I can't find any on amazon for this model

  • @alnagham Thanks for viewing, yes the fz100 has a hot shoe. There is a dedicated Panasonic flash unit the FL 360E although other flashes will work like the nissin di 422 for full auto or any other low voltage trigger flash units in manual mode.

  • What a nice video. Thanks for that presentation!

  • @REDxFROG Thanks for your comment too!

  • @REDxFROG Thanks for your comment too

  • @ghough12 no problem.

But I think I'm going to buy the FZ45 because it performs much better at low light situations. (it's also cheaper)

basically I don't have a clue about cameras at all, I just want a new one which can also film well and doesn't make too much noise when it's not in daylight like in the house. Like for filming a PC case in the dark and stuff.

'Panasonic Lumix FZ35/FZ40/FZ100 low light tests 2' shows it pretty well how the different cameras perform in this special case.

  • does this have manual settings for video?

    thanks

  • @heinygore2 Yes full manual control or shutter, aperture and iso plus profiles in which you can change colour, sharpness, contrat, brightness and noise reduction

  • Hi,

I am having problems converting the 1080i m2st files to mp4 format.

Can you give us some tips of the configurations you use, because your files looks very smooth, wile mine looks like a zebra!

    Thanks

  • @rasc0030 These were the raw camera files and uploaded as .m2ts files to youtube after just being simple cut edited in edius 5.22.

  • ha so it probably deff. does macro right and can you add external mic

  • @FreelanceTelevision yes it does macro and tele macro and has external 2.5mm mike socket(stereo)

  • ima get this cam nd shoot music videos wiff it, i hope it produces quality material :)

  • but...it's not better 720p than 1080i?. If we have f45 with 720p, i think it's enought for hd video.

  • thanks.

  • Hi, i have doubts between this camera and the fz45? what do you consider it´s better? thanks.

  • @FalsettoYoghurt The fz100 has a faster MOS sensor compared to the ccd of the FZ45. It can give faster burst mode shooting speeds and full 1080i HD. The articulated screen is also a great addition. Both cameras don't seem to match the original FZ38 specifications and given the hefty price tag of the fz100 it might be better to look for a fz38 imho.

  • is it possible to zoom faster than you did in this vid?

    thanks :)

  • @Yooniverzal There are variable zoom rates depending upon the zoom lever position, this is the slowest setting here

  • wow the video is more colorful and vibrant i will buy this camera...

  • You are achieving better results than I am so I obviously have to play with settings. What software are you using for editing? I am somewhat disappointed with the AVCHD format and almost wish I would of stuck with a Canon to avoid all the conversion and new software issues. I guess I am experiencing some buyer's remorse. AND I definitely agree that people too often throw around 1080 P and I interchangeably and like you said, 720 P is actually higher resolution than interlaced 1080 I.

  • does this camera have manual focus during video mode?

  • @JDSpino yes, though the implementation is through the thumbwheel on the back of the camera so its not like the focusing of a manual lens, however you can achieve some neat focus shots but beware the internal mike picks up each click of the wheel turn.

  • Does the autofocus work in video mode? I was pretty sure it did, but was kind of slow. I'm just wondering so I can weigh it as one of the factors before I decide whether or not to buy this camera :)

    Awesome video!

  • @mikezard123 Yes autofocus works perfectly albeit a little slow to respond but it does prevent hunting for focus point.

  • WOW!!!!!!

  • Nice video, the quality is stunning. I'm going to be buying one of these within a couple weeks, and if you wouldn't mind, I have a question. You see, when it comes to video and such, I know a fair bit. Not everything, but enough.

Both on this clip and another clip I've seen, despite the camera recording interlaced video, it looks perferctly progressive. Is it something it does in-camera, or what? I'm baffled, frankly.

  • @JesseDanielHimself Hi, one of the things youtube does is to make a progressive file ( it recommends de-interlacing before upload actually) from your 1080i file. There are several ways to make the "P" file and each subject may require a different method merge frame, top or lower frame. You can see "ghosting" on movement if merge frame is selected. I don't know which method YT uses so its better to do this within your editor and make a "P" file before upload. Thanks for viewing

  • @ghough12 Thank you very much, that was helpful. Maybe we could convince Panasonic to make a firmware update that would make the camera naturally record progressivley? Canon haven't made the interlacing mistake, I don't see why Panasonic would possibly put interlacing in a quality camera in this day and age.

  • @JesseDanielHimself They do give you 720p which, in opinion is better than 1080i ( which is 540P when de-interlaced?) when viewed on a large format HD TV and is less intensive on cpu needs for editing. Hope this helps

  • @ghough12 I was thinking the 720 would be a better option, and that's true, it is technically a higher resolution, and I'm sure it would blow up to 1080 just fine. I'll experiment when I get mine.

But I'm still going to write to Panasonic, telling them where they've gone wrong. Maybe, just maybe someone'll listen.

  • @JesseDanielHimself You may find that they have reserved 1080p for the more prosumer cameras like the GH1 and GH2 who knows how the marketing people operate, but good luck anyway. Hope you enjoy you camera when you finally get it.

  • @ghough12 That was indeed my worry. But hey, you can record progressive video on the Canon 550D, which isn't hugely more expensive than the FZ100. But on that note, it should be possible to deinterlace the video from 30 to 24fps through inverse telecine. I'm not sure, but I'll certainly try.

But if you wouldn't mind answering two more questions, because nowhere has a straight answer, how long will the baterry last with nearly constant recording, and how large is the file size per minute?

  • @JesseDanielHimself yes the 550d is a great camera, and if you don;t mind changing lenses is the best option. It will record 1080p at 30,25 or 24 fps and 720p at 60,50p straight from the camera so no need for 3:2 pull down for 24p. the 550 battery lasts over 1.5 hours in movie mode, but 12 mins is the longest clip length. Average bit rates are 330MB per min at both 1080 and 720p. The FZ100 gives 120MB per in at 1080i *(variable bit rate so scene dependant) battery not sure but over 1 hour easy

  • @ghough12 Thanks for all this, you've been exceptionally helpful.

  • @JesseDanielHimself no probs, glad to share some knowledge

  • When I use slower shutter speed like 16 sec or so, the picture gets to bright, I need an advice to avoid that problem...

  • @swanty32e Do you use the exposure meter on the camera so that with the time at 16 secs you set the aperture/iso settings to put the needle to the centre position on the exposure scale?

  • @ghough12 I found it out, I adjusted the aperture and low ISO (100). I tried the shutter speed on cars on the highway, and got some decent photos

  • @swanty32e for this type of photo, to get light streaks etc, sometimes you may need to use a nd4 or nd8 filter to cut down the light even at iso 100 and f11

  • How long this camera can record? unlimited or limited by time....

  • @Juanod09 in the UK its restricted to 29mins 59 secs because of EU tax rules elsewhere the limit will be a 4Gb file size so over 1 hour.

  • @ghough12 ((((((thanks ghough12))))

..... by the way you have said that you sold your FZ38...which one the best in still image quality between FZ 100 & FZ 38?

  • does the film mode that you say in the description needs to be activated on the camera or is it automatic?

  • 3:25 that fly is pretending to be a bee :)))

  • Does it have selective focusing?

  • @Amirichi If you mean manual focus, yes it does have this facility

  • @ghough12 yeh that's the lingo :) lol sorry, i'm going to the store tomorrow and been researching so much on it.. Yeh bout my focusing comment, i meant during recording a video, can you focus on the object closest to you, and then slowly shift the focus to the object's background?

1 thing that's scaring me about this camera is its low light photos, compared to the fz35, it's poor. But, Not like i'll be zooming into photos too much.

Another thing, It records in 1080i (not p), does that matter?

  • @Amirichi Yes you can manually focus during video, in manual video mode. Be aware though that the focus is done by turning the knurled wheel on the back of the camera so the internal mike would pick up each click as you rotate it! It would be nice for the focus to be done more easily. Depends on what you call low light! 1/30 sec @ f3.5 and iso 1600 is low light to me.

1080i means if there is movement in your video you may see double image. 720p is a better mode and higher frame rate and sharper

  • @ghough12 awesome thanks for your replies!

GOT IT TODAY :D but to a big dissappointing start... when i charged it up and got it ready, turned it on (it was night time here so i was under my house lighting - you know the yellowish light. It looked Disgusting on the LCD screen. Simply said. I almost vomited, tried to take a few shots, ofcourse the shots were better than what was displaying, but i got a pretty high saturated orange layer under the lighting i was in. It was unatural.

  • @Amirichi OK, don't panic. Let me try to explain what you saw.

When in the iA (auto) mode the camera takes over full control - it sets up the iso ( camera film speed equivalent) it sets its own white balance and then sets the shutter speed and the aperture to give a reasonable picture. In very poor lighting the camera will often drop down to 1/30 sec at f2.8 and wind up the iso to 1600 to get a result. when this happens the lcd will look very grainy (noisy), be very choppy and "awefull"

  • @Amirichi (2). You can only set a manual white balance in the P mode which is auto mode with some manual adjustment. So with the camera on P and you hit Q menu and scroll along to white balance menu if you cursor down from AWB through sunny, cloudy, shade, flash you get to incandescent. This is a setting for tungsten illumination but not necessarily the right value. To get a good white balance inside you must do a manual white balance set up. Cursor down to white set 1 and find a nice sheet of

  • @Amirichi (3) of A4 white paper the better quality the better the result but for your first set up any white paper will do. Hold the white paper vertically and point the camera at it, make sure you zoom in to fill the lcd, now hit the display button and you will get the measurement rectangle up. Make sure its all white and then press the menu/set button. This will calibrate the camera to white under that particular colour of light. Having done this your images will be more neutral and less sick

  • @Amirichi (4) try the camera outside to get a good feel for its performance. Always try to set the lowest iso you can get away with ( to give at lest 1/30 at f3.5), use the P mode, dont use AWB use a preset (one or do your manual WB set routine) Get close to your subject, gentle with the shutter release, shoot with your back to the sun and never against it ( high flair and very low contrast results). It does take a little time to get to know it, but I am sure you will love it. Come back if need.

  • @ghough12 awesome... did what you said, under P, i managed to get white, i had my incandescent lights on at the time, so i set it there, Under p i also checked out the "film" standard section, where it had contrast, sharpness etc. To me with the white balance corrected, it still seemed way overly saturated, in some areas anyway, so i took saturation down to -2 (wish there was a further option) and contrast down abit, After doing all that, i seemed to get a better result.

  • @Amirichi Great, I'm going to upload a tutorial on this as other viewers might gain from this setting. You can also save your film settings as a custom set up in film1 film2 etc. Great job, enjoy.

  • @ghough12 (2) However, when i tried using all the settings i've saved with a flash, ofcourse, everything was on a shade of blue. (understandable). So ive gotta obviously keep in mind if i use flash indoor i need to have the colours abit warmer. (i noticed though, with the flash, the areas the flash hits is good, but any white in the dark background appears yellowish under the incandescent lighting. What inspired me was under "My Color" Mode is a Pin hole setting, That if anything is near perfect

  • @Amirichi Yes the flash is understandable, as the intensity falls off the ambient light will take over from the flash light and the white will become yellow.

  • @ghough12 bear in mind, i was just using the intelligent auto setting, didnt play around with anything else, But tried going through the WB settings, and none of them fixed the 'overly' saturated effect i was getting. I didnt have time to continue playing around with iso and exposure and what not, had to go to work. Also a side note, i'm very new to cameras of this style. Does yours do that if you keep it on the cam's default settings? (saturated/yellowish). One more thing! ~ *sorry 4 longness*

  • @ghough12 i also noticed (under that house lighting) a very sluggish performance in the LCD display, like when moving, zooming or panning, its very mmm, choppy? tried looking through view finder, same story, its not realtime smoothness. Sorry about this really long reply... i know you know your stuff with this cam that's why im addressing you :0 Thanks heaps~

  • can it do low light or semi-low light?

  • @0987654321284 It is quite noisy in low light - if you see my comparison video.

  • This is wonderful. The video quality is shockinggg - good shocking. I'm really impressed. Have you tried filming whilst music is playing in the background? And in low light? Similar to what you might capture at a gig on concert? I'm looking to get a new camera you see because I film local gigs, I really like this one but I don't know how the sound and picture quality would bare out?

  • can you take self pictures with the lcd facing you without seeing yourself upside down (with the live-view not being upside down)?

  • @sarahsy90 yes, the lcd automatically turns the image as yo rotate it over its hinge.

  • @ghough12 so the liveview is not upside-down (bc the fz50 the liveview is upside down when the lcd faces you)

  • @sarahsy90 no, i can confirm as you swing out the lcd panel and then flip it over the image also flips to maintain correct attitude.
