I agree that the red card at that particular moment was wrong, but there was a penalty on Cristiane that wasn't called and other fouls against Brazil that should have been a Red Card, like the elbow to the back of Marta's head. The US was playing an ugly game and got BEAT by a better team.

That foul was a bad call...but again, at the last Olympic Games, the referee helped the USA win the gold medal against Brazil...that game was a gold medal to Brazil if the referee wasn't the 12th player in the USA side.

The second yellow card on Boxx was one of the worst calls I have ever seen. But hey, Brazil was already winning 2-0 at that point. I just hope Brazil can play this well against Germany.

Here is Marta, running across the area, passing through 3 defenders, and taking a quick shots to the lower post "without missing a stride", and Gooool! No Goal Keeper can defend that.

I agree that the red card at that particular moment was wrong, but there was a penalty on Cristiane that wasn't called and other fouls against Brazil that should have been a Red Card, like the elbow to the back of Marta's head. The US was playing an ugly game and got BEAT by a better team.

That was an absolutely terrible call. Although I'm no fan of the US, they should definitely inquire about that. The lineswoman made no attempt whatsoever to overturn that call, it was more than obvious she was tripped.
I'm sure it won't have much of an outcome though, Brazil was already annihilating them.

That's makes no sense.....you can make the same argument for hand eye coordination or ability to dribble a ball or jumping...I have seen Asian linebackers and many other genetic backgrounds playing American football...dedication and discipline make one a top athlete...not skill or talent...there are way too many stories of talented players never making it out of scholastic sports...

Yeah thats true. US usually depends on strength and experience. Lilly is from 91 world cup, GK Scurry is from 95 and Margkgraf is from 99. But the Brazil women are all young and skinny. Faster and more skillful. Most of the US team is big and sluggish and not overwhelmingly skillful.

By the way, Cristiane didn't use any act. She tripped and fall. Once the referee wrongly called a foul and brought the card out she just reminded the referee it was (and in fact it was) a second booking. And yes, she has any right to celebrate a game situation for her team.
Didn't the Americans celebrate their referee-based win at the Athens Olympics? What is the exact difference when it comes to fair play?

Funny thing is, when Leonardo threw an elbow at Tab Ramos while being held by the shirt, he rightly was suspended big-time.
What about now? Marta was just trying to reach the ball and the player hit her as hard as possible with the elbow on the back of the head, clearly on purpose - looking at the replay is almost unbelievable.
This one should be suspended for a year to learn how to play without the dirty tactics that the US coach tried to attribute to Brazil.

Perfect description--it was amazing to watch Marta play, and horrific to watch Petignat ref. We should never see her on the pitch again. Even so, Brazil earned their spot in the final.

The referee also missed the penalty for Brazil in the beginning of the game, so in the end it all amounts to the same. US can choose, one goal less ore one more player? ;)
Would anything make a difference in this game? This or that goalkeeper... all the same for Marta. She is the star that no tactics can overshadow.
