you have to hit 24 notes per second. mind you, your brain sees movement at 30 frames per second. if i were to put notes and frames in the same quantity, your fingers/hands would look almost like a blur while you are playing.

If you've played many games you'd realize that some games are smoother than others because of their framerate, hence the eye can see MORE than 30fps. Play CoD (60fps) and then go back to a game like Infamous, Uncharted 2, or even Fallout 3 (30, 24 fps) and tell me that the animation/frame rate is not different than the other.
