(and lets face it, BSG is more realistic than half the scenario's that take place in soap opera's, people don't die come back and die again ffs)

Indeed he was doing US accent so well in the show I was surprised to hear him.

Though I have heard English actors doing American accent properly, I can't remember ever coming across American actors doing English English at all.

Renee Zellweger did a good English accent for Bridget Jones' Diary, as did Elijah Woods and Sean Austin in LotR. There are a number of American actors who are actually quite capable of speaking in a convincing English accent, but I suppose the atrocity that was Dick van Dyke's attempt at a cockney accent in Mary Poppins scarred us for life and many are far more critical of Americans speaking BrE than they are of English speaking AmE.

Also, Bamber's dad is American :)

@EnigmaDrath well, that's true... I haven't seen many movies where Americans do BrE (and I was aware of it), except for LotR perhaps, about which I forgot because that was so long ago [in times when I did not care about accents at all :)].

@beastie20 Not all English or Aussie actors are capable of doing convincing American accents, just like not all American actors can sound like Brits or Aussies.

@beastie20 Like Gozer said, not all Brits and Aussies can do it well, but I think on the whole we're a little bit more capable at doing your accents than you are of ours simply because we're exposed to American accents so much from an early age through movies and TV.

@ancalites It could be that or it could be that since you're british you notice when a british accent is slightly off where as you wouldn't notice something being strange about someone's portrayal of an American accent since you're not as submersed in it. There was always something a bit off about Bamber's accent for me but I used to think he was just covering up for being canadian or something haha. A lot of brits are too nasally & over articulate when they do a U.S. accent.

@Atlasfilms08 I'm sure you're correct to an extent (and I have no doubt you'd see through my hokey attempt at passing off an accent ), but I still think we're a bit more capable on the whole (I've heard some Americans say they had no idea Bamber was British - same with actors like Hugh Laurie in House). We are a bit more knowledgeable about the various regional varities of US English too, whereas many Americans seem to go straight for "Pip pip cheerio!" which nobody actually sounds like anymore.

Cockney is spoken by people who originate mainly from East London, James is not an east end cockney!, other areas of London have different dialects, the South of England is a large area with lots of different accents and dialects.....this is closer to what we in England call Queens English or posh!

The thing is it's not just his accent, his actual voice also changes... it's definately lower. He sounds totally different not just with a different accent.

AH jamie, jamie, jamie! You always surprise me! This guy does an amazing american accent, his french is near perfect and he's BRITISH!! And of course his muscular body and witty comments are why girls love him so much. He's also obviously a great actor. I hope to see him in other shows or movies now that BSG has ended.
