Que no es un papel para ella, Gilda ,es obvio ; pero como es la mas grande junto con Callas saben siempre dar a cambio algo maravilloso e irrepetible. Unica
I am not sure who is monkeying around with the comments on this video, but if you cannot stand to hear the truth then do not post the video. Caballe is a fine singer, but she is NOT Gilda, her voice does not float enough for this, it sounds too hard for her..... So minus me as much as you queens want, but it is true, and she is flat too.
Someone keeps dissing any comments a person makes, as if this were a religious experience.. What the hell this is a discussion, and I happen to like Caballe, just not in this role.
Hm... this is my favourite opera aria. I love Caballe, but, funny, her voice sounds too heavy...(just the last part is floating as it should). Gilda is a girl of 16,17 y.o., fully in love, when she is singig this you MUST hear her hart and must hear she is SO MUCH she hardly holds her breath...
This is lovely! What's so wonderful is that each soprano has a different interpretation. For a different but extremely lovely rendition of Gilds, you might enjoy Virginia Zeani's version.
No there arent and although Gilda, along with Oscar, have the highest vocal lines that Verdi wrote I do agree that the Gilda's of his day would def have heavier voices than the ones of today. Gabriella Tucci sang it and she is wonderful. She even gave the higher options. Caballe does rock though.
It's so much like that that back in the day coloratura was expected of every vocal weight. The first Lucia was more of a spinto soprano actually it is said, and didn't have the high Eb's that later leggiero sopranos added.
Yes I agree. Even though the first Lucia was def lighter, a lyric that specialized in mozart, she did indeed later sing roles such as Norma. But yes everyone had coloratura, or had agility in those days because that was the style and that was the msot prevelant music in those days. If you were a dramatic then you sang the big mozart and don and bellini roles, if lighter then u sang comedies and lighter dramas, but all had coloratura.

No but there are not forte , yelled High C's written either.. the cadenza is silly.. and frankly, if she cant do the traditioinal cadenza.. why did she record this? for what reason? she should have stuck to Puccini.

encantadora aunque a veces sus versiones son demasiado personales...lo que no significa que sean malas sino diferentes...

Of course it is not for her, but take it as a great opportunity to hear her Caro nome. She has never sung it and she knew why.
