Tiger i say ! Tigers have horns and a long zigzaged tail with red ribbons tied to its end ! THIS is exactly what you see in this video. Lions have a red nose, are about 10 ft tall and wear fluffy slippers.
i suppose that snakes pierce the nerve to kill their prey too! The lions probably have done that, but not by knowing it!your thinking of a sabre tooth tiger.the sabre tooth tigers teeth were to long and brittle and they didnt have much power in their jaws so these cats would of been the ones to pierce anything in the neck.oh yeah!there a no more Sabre tooth tigers in this world any more.just wanted to let you know.Whats the best hunter in the felline family? Its a domestic cat!
As hard as it is to believe, it happens. It is rare, but not so rare that it should surprise anyone anymore. Our respect for lions' prowess has gotten to the point where we now know they are capable of killing full grown healthy elephant. I've seen about seven clips of lone lion/lioness single handedly tackling & killing lone adult buffalo. I cited the two I know for sure are on youtube. 1 of the two is a young lion, looks 4yo, that took on a massive 1 eyed bull. It had to eat the bull to death
because the bull wouldnt allow a throat choke. Type 'Buffalo wrestles lion' in search. This same video was circulated many times. The way I understand it, the buffalo suffered for 22hrs before it finally died. 1 missing eye may have allowed an initial surprise, but once the lion was on him, it couldn't be used as the reason the lion took him on. From what I have gathered, a hungry lone lion stumbling on anything not an elephant or a rhino, will take a go at it 80% of the time, often foolishly.
I've seen all those videos many times B4 they even made it to youtube. The 1st 1 is from the 80s. Buffalo only trample cubs, & occasionally gore an adult, the adults rarely die from the rare goring. In that particular case the horn went in deep into her internal organs. Even zebra & giraffe hooves break their jaws sometimes rendering them unable to feed, causing them to starve to death.
All that doesn't mean lions dont kill giraffes or zebras solo. They do, occasionally, kill buffaloes solo.
You are way UNDERESTIMATING lions. Your position understandably, is common prior to 2000. Today, we know a lot more & better. The buffalo are not always preinjured. Unlike rhinos & giraffes, buffaloes, elephants & hippoes cannot shake a lion from their hind quarters effectively enough to survive a determined attack once contact is made. The lion must be gored & limp off or the buffalo must die & be eaten. 7 on 1 buffalo doesn't mean it always take 7. I've seen teams of 2,3, up to 19 on 1 buffalo
Im not saying buffaloes cannot do what you said, they can & do those things, all of it. But lions also do what I'm saying. For every lion, cubs included, buffaloes kill, thousands of buffaloes are killed by lions. In some areas or seasons, buffalo make up to 85% of lions food. Given the odds, I'll be a lion B4 a buffalo. My respect for lions flew off the roof when I saw them successfully killing an adult female elephant. Rhinos & adult African Crocs are the only animal they cant hunt with ease.
Very desperate and foolish for a nomadic lioness to try to get a buffalo calf from her mother. buffalo are too big and strong. they can only be taken down with a pride
Well one lioness against 2 buffaloes is excersize in futility, but you'er WRONG when you say "they can only be taken down with a pride"
Every so often, a lone, brave, may be a bit foolish, lion/lioness, takes on a buffalo & kill it. The fight usually last for hours. Invariably, the lion slowly immobilizes the beast by gnawing away at its hind quarters; the rear of the backbone, the back legs etc.
There's video on utube that shows a young male taking 22hrs to defeat a lone HUGE male buffalo.
i know i saw the video. the buffalo was injured prior to the takedown.
lions are the top predators and their scent can pick up a weakened animal and they exploit that weakness. any animal that is injured and weak will fall prey to a less powerful animal.
hyenas themselves have killed lions that were injured and lions are more powerful than hyenas.
I've seen lions so badly hurt & mobid that they couldnt mount effective defense if pressed, yet when surounded by a whole clan, in every case, the lions are not killed. They were menaced, sometimes nipped on the tails & rear, but left alone. The growls & snarls of the lions are usually enough for the hyenas to move on. However, after the lions are dead, they scavenge on the carcasses. Hyenas only hound adult female & young lions out of their meal. Killing is done to cubs under 1 only.
Finally, only male lions over 3, kill adult hyenas. The fear & respect & hate ALL lions have for hyenas, their bites & the strength of their jaws & their tough musty hyde/skin & resiliance, is so great that when female lions catch a hyena, they rarely even dare a bite. Instead, the females slap & paw & growl at the hyena. Hyenas have spines almost as flexible as cats. They can turn & bite from juat about any angle with those legendary jaws & choppers.
I've heard many such claims; even from "EXPERTS". I put that word in emphasized quote because I don't ascribe to the ideology of "expert opinions".
Personally, I doubt that if you put a force guage between the molars of an elephant, a rhino, a hippo, heck; even a buffalo & let each one bite down on it, that the amount of force registered would be less than that of a hyena.
Details usual make a big difference in these sort of claims. May be it's true when compared to other land predators.

Buffalos are slow and stupid creatures, they do nth but graze and breed, like rabbits, they're so helpless to survive on their own and have to rely on the herd, they're a burden to the ecosystem, whereas the lions are top notch hunters, quick, smart, agile and totaly self-dependent.
thats why the lions are white and the buffalos are black.
nothing can be a burden to the ecosystem unless the animals do not belong there, like the fireants in america, and/or the rabbits in australia. All animals play a role whether its to be hunted, to hunt, or ear the dead. All animals play a role.
She was waiting for an opportunity like this where an adolescent Buffalo en his/her mom will graze alone witch is also a rare occasion. The mom did not know that there was only one, weak lioness charging, that's why she defended her offspring. In a situation were the Buffalo graze in large herds this lion would have been in a difficult situation, see the "Battle at Kruger" video here on YouTube.
Normally lionesses stay together in order to raise they're cubs successfully and for the hunting advantage. This lioness is much underfed and is defiantly an outcast.
That lion looked pretty slim. Desperately hungry? But maybe not in a wildlife park. I thought they don't hunt alone unless they have to. Pretty dangerous training session for cubs if that's what it was. Did someone explain to you why she went after TWO? Alone? VERY curious...
Liger, man. LIGER. It's a cross between a tiger and a lion. Male lion. Female tiger. There's a actually a pretty good video here on YouTube of a "small" liger.
ah shit- sorry man i didnt read it properly albeit my eye sight is shit.i kno what a liger is ive never seen one bear agression though.probably the closest to the old "cave lion" what grew to the samish size 1000lbs+.

when lions attack they dont choke the animal to death.
they acctualy bite the kneck piercing a nerve which paralises the animal.
thats why it looks like they are choking it.
the same goes for tigers????
jordieere2008 3 years ago
Some lions actually suffocate their prey, Its called"slow strangulation".
d3r0n 3 years ago
its got nothing to do with piercing and paralysis... predators crush the windpipe of their prey to suffocate them

the bottom line is lion cannot take down a full grown bull buffalo on its own.
there are videos where
there is a video where it took 7 lions to get a buffalo bull down. how can just one lion take it down?

lions to kill them thus becoming predator instead of prey over lions. buffaloes are extraordinary highly unpredictable animals
take a look a look at these 3 videos to prove my point.

i think you're way underestimating buffalos. they arent one of the big 5 for nothing.
out of all the animals you mentioned only buffalos have been documented to kill lions.
in the 7 on 1 lion vs buffalo video, the buffalo yanked a full grown lioness in midair and killed her before he was taken down.
not only that, they have actively stalked
