Did you twist back up when you went to bed? I have my hair like yours for the final look, but I'm not sure how to maintain the hairstyle. Im new to this natural hair thing :)
after watching this video i have finally decided I'm going to do the bc after new years. i have been transitioning for 18 months now and the last few months have been a nightmare. i see quite a bit of breakage in the crown area which has to be my biggest frustration! that area ALWAYS tangles/knots up before anything else. the texture is different!! in any case, i will con't to review your videos for strength in moving forward with the cut....thank you!
Okay I am need help determining my hair type and your hair is the closest that I have seen. My hair seems to be like an afro on the bottom when it was 2 inches and now its has curly ringlets on the ends at 4 inches. If anyone knows her hair type please Help. LOL
You have made me want to continue being natural. I wore wigs all the time because I didn't know what to do with this hair. Im soooooo glad I found you videos. Guess I wont be getting that relaxer after all. Thanks
@ememilyno24 I find that my twist outs work better when my hair's wet when I twist it. depending on your hair type, this may work better for you too :)
Are there any other products that are equally effective as Doris New York Leave In Conditioner and Olive Oil Moisturizing Hair Cream? If not, in which stores can I possibly find those two products?
this sunday i'll be taking part at a cheer competition and as a natural, i have absolutely no clue as to how i'm gonna wear my cheer bow...help me pls.
You have made me a believer again. I began the natural hair process approximately 6 months now but have mainly worn my hair in braids to transition. Your hair is absolutely beautiful and healthy and you wear it well. I have a similar hair type only a little more kinky especially at the ends where it gets so dry. I will definitely follow your videos. I cannot wait for my hair to grown. Thank you!!

wow thanks for this video bcuz until now after watching it i thought that u had to be BORN with that kind of hair but now i see i can get the same curly looking hair without having to get a texturizer or sumthing chemical!! thank u sooo much girl i cant wait til my newly natural hair gets long enough to do this :D
Love the results !! U look beautiful ! Can't wait until my hairs that length and longer! I'm already doing the chunky twist at night before bed, every night and my hair Is so soft and fluffy in the morning!! I use my shea butter mixture on my ends and whatever type of moisturizer or leave-in on my hair that I choose! My hair is growing and coming along very nicely! Thx for the video!!
Mae can you tell me if you use a local salon here in NY? I live in the NY area and I have gone to Khamit Kinks which is a really good salon but not always in my budget and I need to get my hair professionally trimmed and haven't done so in months. I have been doing regular dusting but I am afraid it is just not enough. Any suggestion
how did you get your hair to move like that....!!!! thats what im missing.... my hair started to get move body and movement until i put braids in it... now that the braids are out my hair is dry dry dry dry... ugh... i need some advice please!!!
@NIJEECAPRICORN20 i've had short hair all my life. And i've never cut it. My hair is like half of her length and it just doesn't grow. So even if I do the Big Chop i'm afraid i'll be bald for the wrest of my life 'cause my hair doesn't grow. I added relaxer to it 4-5 years ago and I went bald in the middle..and still am bald in the middle a bit. I'm still in my teens and I just don't know what to do with it anymore.
@ddola7 you can get Biotin or MSM at any pharmancy wear vitamins are like GNC VitaminWorld or local supermarket Hairfinity depends on wear you live you can find it in asalon near you or order it off their webcite
@ddola7 hey i'm 17 and natural and your hair can grow long with healthy hair care. Dry washing and deep conditioning your hair on a weekly basis and you don't have to cut off all your hair immediately, you can transition to natural. Check out cocoa89 and fusionofculture's channel. Also see dprincess28's transitioning to natural tips. I also recommend going to your local pharmacy and getting biotin pills, wish you luck. Oh, and don't for get to use water based moisurizers at least every 2 days.
I know this is a little late..but I been watching your vids and girl you are OFF THE HOOK! Your hair looks fabulous and you have come such a long way (you looked great the day of your big chop too) you are unstoppable! An true inspiration, your hair looks great in this style. Keep trying new things, keep it real and keep it natural!
hey, nikkimae!! thanks for this wonderful tutorial. i figured out how to achieve this great style...however, now i need to know how to maintain? i would imagine that i retwist every night, but i need to know whether i will comb before retwisting and/or whether i re-apply product? thanks and keep enlightening us!!!
@MoniMeka That's what I wanna know too. I need my hair shaped and I think I'mma just go to Khamit Kinks in BK cuz I don't think I can do it even myself lol
Love it, I'm new to this, so what was the black think you put on your head? I have a satin bonnet but it has elastic and I have the hated ring around the head in the morning. What are you using and how are you getting it to stay on overnight?
I love how your so in love with your hair. lol, I want to be natural I have not gotten a relaxer since august. but.... my hair is dry and I cannot comb my hair at the ends it comes out. BUT do you have any suggestions on what i should use as far as shampoo and conditioning for transition hair and what to do?? thanks
@723965 I personally like Qhemet Biologics Alma and olive heavy cream for moisture when styling. For a less heavy moisturizer I like a simple rose water/ vegetable glycerin spritz for on the go. So far of all the shampoos I've tried the best one I've used is Karen's body beautiful Juicy shampoo bar. I'm still trying to find my perfect conditioner, but I have liked Nexxus' Humectant in the past. I've heard good things about Aubrey organics which is what I'm trying next. Either way Good Luck!
@723965 It could be that ur not moisturizing it often enough, vital for keeping hair healthy. Wash it often - a big difference from relaxed hair. Be careful of exposing it to too much heat since where ur permed & new natural hair meet is very weak & fragile. I've been completely natural (not including before the BigChop) for about 10 months. Still learning, but of these things I am sure. If adjusting these doesn’t help try using different hair products. Hope that everything works out for u :)
@723965 I know your question was for Nikkimae, but i just wanted to give my 2cents, as i struggle with the same ting. what kind of shampoo do use? Make sure its sulphate free. Try creme of nature detangling shampoo, it has no sulpahate in it.. when my hair was much shorter i used Jherry Curl gel or care free gold curl activator, they really helped with moisture. a hot oil treatment every now and then will help with dryness s well. and remember detangle from ends to root.
@723965 Hi..I used to be relaxed. If you want, try this, deep condition on dry hair. I applied a generous amount of my fav conditioner ( Herbal Essence Hello Hydration) on dry hair put on plastic cap let sit for 20-25 minutes and as you rinse it out in the shower comb through with a wide tooth comb, your local beauty supply store or Walmart if you have one near you carries them, they curve at the end. Split your hair straight down the middle and comb one side always from the end work your way up
@723965 when you are trying to transition from relaxers to natural, you have to understand that the longer the new growth gets, the more vulnerable your length is to breakage at the point where texure changes
. Go with hairstyles that are low maintainance and dont involve daily heat ot combing like braids or sewn-in weaves wit your hair braided underneath in cornrows. these styles will still allow you to moisturize your hair and scalp while you give your hair a break from the comb.
@723965 once your new growth reaches a length that you find flattering , cut off that chemically treated hair. Now if you're not comfortable with that you will eventually have to relax your roots. While you are still wearing a cobination of texures it is critical that you do not dry out your length. Shampoo only the roots of your hair and not very often 1-2 times a month condition and rinse in between if you feel . use raw coconut oil on your lenght n tea tree on the scalp wrap with satin @night
Ok the music in all your viedo's... hottt. Ok Im combing out my locs after eight years can't wait to try some of these styles. Back when I did twist outs all the great products available now were not in existence. Keep up the great work. Bless
if i follow you on twitter can you follow me back or email me because im really interested in going natural and just would like advice on how to start , or a website you can give me that gives the process steps start to finish.? ....long question so im thanking you in advance for reading if you do.
I am a new subscriber and just wanted to say, your hair is beautiful. Thanks for the videos. I have locks but can still appreciate any sistas natural hair beauty.
I absolutely LOVE this look on you. the blow out def gave you more length.. I might consider doing te same...but my hair does NOT like heat, t breaks real easily :-(
@KIdDpurPLeJUnkiEe Nope.. hair type does not matter. My hair is type 4a/b (I don't use the 4c typing because I never learned typing with a c for type 4s) and I am able to blow dry my hair properly so that it looks just like hers probably even straighter. Your technique is bad. I blow dry with a denman brush in small sections probably about 12-16. It takes about on average 2-2.5 hrs to blow dry my hair (short hair). So, it's your technique not hair type. Check out marand313 blow dry techniq
@PrettyBrownEyes718 yea i cant stand when people say there here wont do this or that because it 4c or something. i have the thickest hair possible and with the right moisturizers and hair care tips i always get similar results to the other natural on youtube. sometime i feel that when they say they're hair is too thick, its an excuse. Just another way of separating the black community.
@anewmeePassion well since ur having so much great luck with yo 4c hair, shoot me sum products to use. there's no excuses here, i cant have any excuses esp with me being a stylist and i have not yet found anything that will define my hair or anything. i stick to my twist out cuz dats da only thing that works for me, anything else is a hot mess but i embrace it anyways cuz its my hair.
Love the video!! I'm trying to decide on doing my own blow out to cut my ends or going to a salon. Do you do your own trims and if so how often? What's your trim regime? Thanks so much for your informative videos
