  • oh boy wow ,

  • Wow, I remember the ruckus 28 years ago. My Mom and Dad were caught in that trampling just to get 3 dolls. Those were the days.

  • wtf isss this shiiiitttt??!!

  • WTF?????

In 1983, I was 3 years old an I got one . I've asked my mother yesterday and she said they were selling a lot of them in stores and but no cabbage Patch riots. They were not so hard to find.

Maybe they were not so popular in Canada.... I don't know.

  • What's the deal...these people were all adults and acting like crazy fools! I had 3 cabbage patch kids, hope my mom didn't go through that to get them...jeez. Better thank her again for getting it for me. lol

  • time to get the shotgun out and shoot it to the roof XD

  • This shit was crazy, back then and no ebay!!

  • @dasmackman Or amazon too

  • wtf is this shit

  • i dont get it, what was the big deal about them.

  • I GUESS THEY GOT TIRED OF RAGETTY ANNE

  • My mom was amongst the crazy mom's getting me a doll in 1984. I still have all my Cabbage Patch Kids and I'm now 34 years old.

  • @darlingdino, Hey your the same age as me! I got a cabbage patch kid for my 8th birthday. I love the baby powder scent the dolls have. By the way my dolls name was Astrid Lillian.

  • I'll still have my doll since i was like 5 and am 30 now

  • @sandra4788

    Exactly the same for me!

  • I remember seeing such a riot when I was five, and I said to my mother "Why the fight over a stupid doll?!"

  • lmfao they are stupid god damn pieces of plastic

  • I had a pre-order come in for 2 dolls and was told to pick them up around the back of the building as it would cause a riot if I went out the front door with them.

  • Frickin creepy! Man, I wish I could have been there to watch one be born.

  • hey ladies you are wrecking the boxes!!! Without the boxes you are losing value!!!

    darn. lol

  • They would probably kill each other if it were free Cabbage Patch Dolls.

  • These... these people! Acting like chimpanzees! People who think that we're separate from the rest of the animal kingdom need to watch this video.

  • I completely agree.

  • hahah my parents hate lines more then anything, and being there would be like a nightmare.

I guess i'd be shit out of luck if i wanted one of those ugly things.

  • How sad. Out of a child's hands. These women need to think long and hard, was it really worth getting YOUR child 1 they don't even play with anymore, when another kid could have it? They r awsome but grow UP!

  • well i love cabbage patch kids i have 40 of them

  • I hope these people look back on this and laugh at how stupid they acted. These things go out of fashion there is no need to act like children. Does anyone care about Cabbage patch dolls or the power rangers anymore? I rest my case. Thank God people hardly acted in this manner when the harry potter books came out or when the Iphone hit the stores (people camped outside the stores all night but there was no physical abuse)

  • I got one of the dolls that year. My great-aunt went into a store in Georgia and they had plenty in stock, and were having trouble selling them. My great-aunt had never heard of them but she thought they were funny and bought one for me. Two weeks later, there were riots in that store, too.

  • I remember this craze before the dolls had gotten popular me and my mom were in the store they were $15 at the time and she asked me did I want one, I did but I said no we didn't have alot of money back then then they became all the rage and you literally couldn't find one and people were selling them for $100 or more and I regretted not getting one, my brothers friend got his hands on one and was selling it for $30 my grandfather was visting and bought it for me, I had it for years

  • You know if they made a beanie babies cartoon in the same model as most classic girls' cartoons and shows, it'd be the biggest thing ever!

  • Looked like a stampede at a Zayre

  • I remember when I was a kid, my older sister got on her knees and begged to my mother to get her one of these dolls.

  • o wait i have more than 30

  • It's all consumerist excess. Who really needs to crazy over such silly things.

  • quite a sellout back then...

  • now these dolls are found in used thrift stores for .25 cents

  • Had I have got one of those Cabbage Patch dolls I would have doused it in lighter fluid and set it on fire right in front of everybody and then laughed.

  • you could've kidnapped one and held it for ransom... and you would've gotten it too.

  • i have 30 of those they ear cute gosh

  • that's just what I mean..Americans are lost...

  • and they're the ugliest looking possible dolls too! man...

  • Wilkes-Barre, PA hits the map again! Nice....

  • Ok I just went to the Black Friday at Walmart and people were still going crazy over Cabbage Patch dolls on sale for 9 dollars....it's amazing that 30 years later they'd still be selling like that! We bought one for my daughter

  • good job americains ...

  • Now imagine what will happen when we have food shortages, and power outages.....Idiot America.

  • almost 30 years later and nothing has changed. People get wounded or killed for christmas over a fucking toy for their children. Christmas is no longer about religion and being nice to each other... it's about cutting someone's throat over the next big video gaming system. CONSUMERISM!! after we consume it all... there will be nothing left but the money... and you can't eat that...

  • I was in new bedford mass in 1993 and entered the store right behind the riot for POWER RANGERS dolls. I saw 3 fights and saw jackets torn and bruised people. Police came in within 5 minutes. disgusting.

  • animal like behavior

  • And this is one reason why the world hates us,

  • Actually the world loves American pop Culture.

  • I was making a joke. It's really pathetic and sad that these people were in danger over getting a fricken' toy. The fact people get so worked up over material thing is one reason a lot of countries dislike us. And when i see footage like that I can't disagree. Not insulting the toy, but the idea that it cause these peoples lives to be in danger is mind-boggling.

  • I WAS only 2 in 83 but i had a ton of them was i was a little older there kinda funny looking now

  • I was born in '83 so this was my first Christmas. I'd always heard of the Cabbage Patch riots but never saw any footage until now...INSANE!!!

  • Ahh, this type of stuff always reminds me why to wait for a little while longer after a hyped product has been released.

  • agreed 100% on that statement.

  • Care Bears > Cabbage Patch Kids

  • lol Care Bears were like 10 bucks, Cabbage Patch Kids were like 80.

  • so not dumpy or ugly - they are my FAVOURITE toy to this day. I was 5, and I still have my first one at my Parents house to this day!! :)

  • I was 12 yrs old in 1983...I rmber even adults were buying Cabbage Patch dolls, to adopt them and treat them like a real life kid. Btw I still love them, have a Cabbage Patch kid with a hula skirt hehe

  • i watched a documentary on bbc america recently where women buy real life looking baby dolls and care for them as if they were real, spending all this money on them. it was really creepy.

  • "those caught in the middle"??

See through the consumerism, no one was forcing them to buy the dolls.

  • I think they were referring to the clerks who were almost getting mugged for these ugly ass dolls.

  • i remember people going in "family gangs" to the store to get to get just one

  • So the movie jingle all the way was based on a true story.

  • indeed

  • haha, what a bunch of jackasses

  • I had one of the original colleco dolls My mom was on a waiting list to get me one

  • They aren't ugly D:

    They're beautiful.

  • My mom got trampled and got a broken leg :( I got a doll though but it's head got squished in the box some guy stepped on it.and my dad fixed it by drilling a hole in the back of her head and poking the dent out with a chopstick

  • @spongebobsquidward Go mom and dad power!

  • lol who the fuck would start killing over a damn toy it´s not like it gives you fucking super powers... u would rather steal from a house than a store

  • madness, lol

  • haha.. a dumpy doll

  • same thing happened with beanie babies

  • I worked at a Spencer Gifts store in a shopping mall during this mania and we had literally dozens of phone calls every day asking if we carried the dolls (We didn't, and the two toy stores in the mall that did were almost torn apart).

  • What have we come to?! Crazy animals!!

  • humanity reached a new low that day

  • hahaah you got that right

lolllllllll i think another low was when bush became a president

  • lol over that....

  • Lmao!!!

  • damn the guy who thought of this advertising campagn, probaly got very rich.

  • pathetic

  • This was pathetic!

  • I grew up about 10 miles away from the Zayre's store where this riot took place. Can't believe people went gaga over these stupid fucking dolls.

  • WOW...

  • To all you people acting like this only happens in America, if you actually paid attention you would notice this also went on in Canada.

  • Yup. This is from CBC-TV the main national station in Canada. Cabbage Patch mania hit Momtreal as well.

  • Consumer WHOOOOOOOOORES!!! Americans are the most greedy, materialistic, bastard SHEEP on the planet. No wonder the world hates us.

  • calm down. lol

  • fucking MORONS!!! SHEEP!!!!!

  • Lol only the strong survive. I stood outside in -30 weather for 30 minutes in the dark waiting for the Hudson's Bay to open. And yes I did get the doll! Damn near froze but my daughter was happy at Christmas!

  • doesn't look to hard to shoplift something in all that choas

  • Hilarious what grown woman will do for there kids! My mom told me she had to fight to get my sister one of these at k mart in the early eighties. Hilarious to see

  • how brilliant of those advertisers

  • OMG besides getting a cabbabge patch doll, what in the hell were these people thinking?

  • I didn't need a Cabbage Patch Doll that year...I had something even better...my beautiful little boy, Shaun who was three months old that Christmas! ^_^

  • aww how sweet :)

  • I gave him the nickname...the Cabbage Patch Kid! ^_^

  • for an ugly fucking doll...

  • It was the 80's faze craze fad. People wanted to make their kids happy. Just like when people went crazy of that little thing Tickle me Elmo.

  • wow people are crazy

  • those dolls look like daemons that want to eat your sol who would want to get one of those! it might kill u when u are sleeping

  • it was the 80s back then a doll would be like a ps3 now....

    lol

  • The PS3 back then would have been the C64.

The cabbage patch kids were the tickle me Elmo of the day.

  • mail order? lol

  • people who experienced the 80's are pussies nowadays (at least most of them)

  • this video is not a riot its a stampede

  • people are so stupid. makes me ashamed almost to be a human being. hah

  • Lolololololololololol

Yeah a mother turns to another mummy and says in a demonic voice 'It's mine bitch' as she foams at the mouth!!!!

When the in thing is in you just have to get it,you don't know why you just do..................Hmmmm funny how things have not changed!!!!!!

Break out people, don't listen to it/watch it,think for yourseleves before it's too late......

  • lol white trash...people across the globe have no money for food or water and these people fight for some dolls...thats so sad...seriously..

  • I'm white and i actually don't find that offensive.

Why are these white people fighting over a doll that is born loool.

    I'll agree with you.

  • Yeah...just like blacks shooting people for their designer sunglasses...it IS sad, isn't it? ^_^

  • god bless america.......and consumerism!

  • I wonder if that little girl at the end of the video found herself on youtube, and thought WTF was my mother thinking??!?! LOL

  • That little girl looked like she was a living cabbage patch doll.

  • This is embarassing for all of mankind.

  • not stupid idiots, manipulated stupid idiots

  • People are so fucking stupid in groups. Reverting back to our animal ways... fail, fail, fail.

  • Comment removed

  • L O L people are idiots

  • stupid idiots

  • whats the deal with some damn ugly doll?

oh i know! SHOOT THE THINGS IN THE HEAD! ITS THE ONLY WAY! DO IT OR THEY WILL COME ALIVE AND EAT YOUR FACE

  • Oh I remember hearing about this on the news

  • Wow that's pretty neat, it's so funny to go back and watch things from the 80s. The rioting was uncalled for in my opinion. You can listen to the theme song and find Cabbage Patch Kids birthday party supplies and cake decorations at

Cabbage-Patch-Kids * JuniorToons * com if anyone is interested.

  • I can't believe she called them ugly! WHAT A HORRIBLE PERSON!

  • Early evidence of humanit's decline.

  • And the keepers of THOUSANDS of MEGATONS of WMD'S...BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

  • and yet they still cant find Saddam's WMD's.

  • those were good days

  • Hell has three gates: Lust, Anger, and Greed. Everyone here went through all three.

  • Oh god

  • What?

  • I always thought store riots were stupid. This just puts the Icing on the cake. Thank god for online shopping....

  • I remember this. It was the report that convinced me, at the age of 12, that I was never going to worry about getting "the cool" toy for myself or my kids when I grew up. And I've kept my word. Retarded.

  • this has to stop...we really need to take a look at ourselves when people have to be scared for their lives when they go SHOPPING

  • Cabbage Patch kids are stupid.

  • My mom got me one when I was a kid. She didn't buy me one of those WWF wrestling buddies like I wanted, so i just used my cabbage patch kid. She thought I was going to be gentle with it, instead I slammed it, did elbow drops and what not.

  • I just don't get the fuss over those things at all. I mean they're HIDEOUS!

  • Even when I was younger I thought those things were ugly.

  • In light of the Wal-Mart death yesterday AND the racists losing their minds over the fact that the offenders were black, I give you this you morons. It's not a race thing, it's an AMERICAN THING. A very SICK & WRONG American thing...

  • I had 2! Still have them swomewhere up in the attic. : )

  • Over those ugly dolls someone would RIOT!

    cRAZY!!!!!!

  • at 40 seconds, the guy with the baseball bat seems like a young shawn the clown. and yes they are very fucking ugly.

  • I've never heard of a cabbage patch kid till today, and why were people so crazy about these dolls??

  • I heard the dolls could eat kid's hair, fingers and skin, and the gullet was so powerful that it could even rip hair clean out if its roots.I'm not 100% about that, i read that on a website.

Also some more creepy shit: "There were also more difficult to confirm reports of the doll's eyes suddenly turning a bright red and the room temperature dropping 15 degrees Celsius every time you turned it on".

  • Yea... the cabbage patch dolls that were released by mattel in 1996 had a function where they were battery controled and "ate" plastic food that came with the doll. Further more they were not re-called by mattel and parents of victims still allowed their child to play with their doll... after they made sure the child's hair was pulled back.

  • Toys R US was even worse back in 1983. It was mad crowded. My father used to take my brother and I to Toys R Us back in the early 80s. Toys R Us was the shot back in the early 80s. I didn't have a Cabbage doll that year in 1983, but I had two of them 2 or 3 years after its release. I was 6 years old back in 1983, and I remember that commercial like it was yesterday!

  • seriously? they rioted over this shit?

  • my mom kicked some major ass that year ... i got three of those dolls one stolen from a little old lady right under her nose.. i love that story every time my mom tells me lol

  • I'd laugh if that old lady was reading this

  • I live in my moms basement. Its hot down here. I need a pepsi

  • imagine a golden ticket inside cabbage patch kids parent's will really go crazy.

  • i wish this still happen then people will find it is not bad for a boy to have one.

    because i did.

  • I'm a boy and I am an adult collector and have lots and lots of them!! And I know lots of other boys who had them as kids too!

  • I still have all my cabbage patch kids packed away in my addict. In 83 I was 6....and my parents were in the madness trying to buy me my dolls.lol

  • My mom's cousin was getting JUST an outfit for her daughters cabbage patch doll in the 83 riots, and she was knocked down by this other woman, fell and broke her ribs...everyone grabbed the stuff she dropped and ran

  • OMG they were just popular toys back then. Toys for children back then were so great and innocent. Not like the crap toys they have today.

  • i know they are cursed:p why they are creepy;p

  • I was 10 when the riots started in 1983 i got my first cpk kid in xmas 1984 because they were so hard to get lol i still have her to this day to

  • Holy cow! I have NEVER seen anything like that in my life! I was only a year old back then, so I never really understood what parents went through for these.

  • my god. this is disgusting

  • man i still have a cabbage patch doll i'm holding it now it is a blond school girl version named ashely

  • my brother and two sisters were in aa cabbage patch kid riot in victoria,, it was a crazy time in the 80's
