It sounds to me as though the first couple in that situation weren't "swinging" per se ... for them, it may have been something more like polyamory. The sex was a connected to the close friendship, and was considered by them to be an expression of feeling, perhaps even love. Swinging is generally about sex as recreation; lots of people make friends as they go, but the sex and the friendship aren't interdependent. The problem in this case was that not everyone was clear about expectations.

in the LS we call that DRAMA. Several mistakes, 1. first couple should have said we want exclusive relationship 2. Don't tell your parents!! 3. Never push a spouse. Walk away from the idea that you will ever be 'right' with that first couple again. Chalk it up to lesson learned. Same thing happened to us, and it's been a year and we've given up. Learn from this!!
