  • Hello, How do you know when to use one or another Alphabet? Is it formality or informality, or your choice, or a scenario where you use them? Thanks, Was curious.

  • How would you write and say Sarah in Japanese?

    and if possible, Doofus Maximus?

    Love your Videos :D

  • Thank you!

    Sarah in Japanese, "サラ(/sara/)".

    "Doofus Maximus" in Japanese, "ドゥーファス・マキシマス".

  • There is one thing incorrect about this video ふフ hu is actually pronounced fu but will sometimes be romanized as hu

  • yap, ふ=fu,

    but in romaji hu

  • this is Great ,i will learn it all ,i love languages a lot ,Thank you Daiki for sharing it with me :) HARIGATO !!!! ITS IN MY fav. AND i have your web site thank you so !

  • it also doesn't matter which u use in japan?

  • also what's my name in japanese my name's James

  • thanks.

    your name in japanese,

    "ジェームズ(/jēmuzu/)".

  • kool also wondering, where's the letters with the line on them like ē?

  • ē=/è̞i/

  • err sorry but i dont get u

  • "ジェームズ"→(pronounce) /jeimuzu/

  • It lengthens the sound of the syllable. Unlike in English, Japanese syllables are all usually the same length. Otherwise your name would be pronounced `Jams' - probably not what you'd want ;o)

The /è̞i/ is IPA notation - a way of describing the sounds in English to non-English speakers. Consider yourself fortunate that it's all natural to you! The Japanese have real difficulty with some of the sounds in English - many of them just don't exist in Japanese.

  • like what sounds?

  • The simplest way is to show what sounds Japanese does have. It uses a sort of alphabet called hiragana - each 'letter' has a sound and Japanese words combine these sounds to make words.

Oborogin, he's Japanese, demonstrates them. You'll see/hear that there are few fewer than in English.
