Ibrahim was influenced by the songs and rhythms of the Moroccan band "Nass Elghiwane", mainly when he lived in Algeria. Hendrix is way older than these guys, and he probably influenced them not the way around.

Santana does not really fit into this music, although he does a good job of staying as close to the theme as possible. it just doesn't work, but it's not his fault.
his problem is that Tinariwen just doesn't need any help. their sound is supreme enough on its own. their music is mesmerizing and full and flowing. props to Carlos for trying.
I'm not sure about this....I know Santana is well respected by Tinariwen, but he's missing the mark on alot of the song. I don't think he's really getting what's going on here. I think Tinariwen could have done better with a guitarist who plays with more space and less wail. So not sure......

As an Amazigh (Berber). I am feeling the music of Tinariwen burning in my soul. And that Carlos is play next to them makes me more proud of who I am and the history of my original cultural background. Allot of Berbers in Europe are loosing there very precious heritage.
I miss the female vocals, the original song is so full of life it pales this fine live rendition. This feels like moonshine, when to me Matadjem Yinmixan is the warm sunrise on the face.
As well as inviting Tinariwen, Carlos also played with Ismael Lo, Mory Kante, Kora Jazz Trio, Angelique Kidjo, Toure Kunda and Idrissa Diop. Say what you will about Carlos's musical contribution but the fact is that no other American artist does more to promote African artists. I've seen Tinariwen live, they're superb and deserve the widest possible audience but unfortunately most African acts couldn't get arrested in the US so this sort of exposure is important.
To those who said Carlos is just screwing the shit and boosting his ego... I would rather thank Carlito for inviting Tinariwen, Carlos is one of the greatest guitarists of all times and his recongnition of this music style is a great thing too, can't you see he's wonderfully improvising his playing?... Tinariwen rocks very hard and they make me proud to be berber... thx to all of them
Give Carlos a chance! He's feeling his way through unfamiliar music. If you listen to this several times you will see the wisdom of his choice of notes. It's fusion.
I also think Carlos Santana made a poor addition to this incredible group of musicians, though its cool to see that their already eclectic style can include a strictly solo guitarist.

Ibrahim was influenced by the songs and rhythms of the Moroccan band "Nass Elghiwane", mainly when he lived in Algeria. Hendrix is way older than these guys, and he probably influenced them not the way around.

Santana does not really fit into this music, although he does a good job of staying as close to the theme as possible. it just doesn't work, but it's not his fault.
his problem is that Tinariwen just doesn't need any help. their sound is supreme enough on its own. their music is mesmerizing and full and flowing. props to Carlos for trying.

I'm not sure about this....I know Santana is well respected by Tinariwen, but he's missing the mark on alot of the song. I don't think he's really getting what's going on here. I think Tinariwen could have done better with a guitarist who plays with more space and less wail. So not sure......

As well as inviting Tinariwen, Carlos also played with Ismael Lo, Mory Kante, Kora Jazz Trio, Angelique Kidjo, Toure Kunda and Idrissa Diop. Say what you will about Carlos's musical contribution but the fact is that no other American artist does more to promote African artists. I've seen Tinariwen live, they're superb and deserve the widest possible audience but unfortunately most African acts couldn't get arrested in the US so this sort of exposure is important.
