@lovin18 i agree. Venus used to have that deathly attack mode game where she was practically unbeatable 2000-2003. but whenever she played Serena in those major finals, her attack mode was hindered by her big sister instinct.
Serena has more titles that Venus only because Venus wanted Serena to win also. She should have viewed Serena as opponent; not her sister and she would be the one with more titles. Venus always looks to end the point quickly with the 1st strike. Being aggressive on grass always pays off. Also Venus still has that 35 match winning streak, that no one has beat.
Watch the 2000 pilot open Venus vs Monica and tell me Serena is better...
@lovin18 I think venus is better in terms of how she constructed her points. Volley also is better and she is more powerful. But the only problem with venus is that she makes a lot more unforced errors then serena does.
@lovin18 i agree. Venus has always had sisterly instinct with serena and that carried over into their matches against one another. whereas Serena didnt care who she was playing. thats the big difference why Serena was more dominant.
i think there was a time when Venus and Serena really hated each other ON COURT.. @ 2:43 set point for Venus and you could really tell the grunts meant SOMETHING ELSE than they normally would have.. it would be impossible to compete for a title like this and not hate ur opponent.
I would have never guessed back then that Serena would be the one of the two who would win the most Slams and be called the greatest of her generation.
Venus was clearly affected in beating little Sister. And I believe she's more comfortable with Serena being the "better" and more accomplished tennis player. That's the only reason IMO that Serena is where she is in her Career
@itsjonkuo that's why these are highlights, I actually did notice when they were first playing on tour, when they played against each other, there didn't seem to have a feeling of intensity when they played. You can see it, but you just didn't feel it. You could start to feel it I think during and after the '03 Wimbie when Venus was playing through a stomach injury, and still took a set off Serena. These highlights are great, they're playing well, but you do sense a feeling of hesitation.
yeah, Richard always said Serena was the "meaner" of the two sisters lol...

Exactly! In their Aussie Final against each other. You can hear Serena call Venus a bitch, when Venus hit an ace on break point.
Also Richard Williams said, "Serena will be the better player because she's meaner" lol
With that said, Venus could have easily won all those finals she played her sister in, if she didn't have that sisterly love intangible/mentality.
After Venus started losing to Serena, it caused her game "fearless shot making" to go away, thus she started to lose to even more l

Why do the commentators keep saying the match isn't great? They are playing really well here...
