The current Rescue 1 was probably at the shop at the time.

Thats the 2002 Mack on a donated chassis with a General Safety body; dedicated reserve, the other ones in reserve are the 2001 ALF chassis which operated as Rescue 6 and now the Pierce Arrow XT as well as all of the E-Ones now

@FdNy8231 Actually, the E-One/Saulsbury was the truck Captain Hatton had been designing in the months up until 9/11. FDNY got the Pierce to test out the independent front suspension it had to see if they wanted to get more trucks with that technology.

I love in American fire trucks that, they look like they were designed and built for FD from the beggining to the end - similarly to military vehicles. In Europe most fire trucks are "from the shelf" and just adopted to the rescue and fire tasks by placing a proper rear part of the vehicle.

@szajlok well todays european fire engines got the cab of a normal truck, but the companies do a very good thing out of them: Just take a look at Rosenbauer, Magirus, Ziegler and many many others. Practical design and technology thought-out to the last details and available in for the special requirements of each department
