Thanks for that and also congrats on your playing just 1 other question when you say you ran the pickup signal directly into the camera - do you mean you plugged a lead from the guitar into it? or a lead into an amplifier?
Hi there im a novice to guitar but if im wiling to get right gear first - just what you said to the poster there about it being a Lowden O-25 - Cedar top Rosewood sides and back - we recorded it with a mic and a direct line from my pickup (LR Baggs I-Beam)
how much would that gear cost? Is the pickup an active or passive (i googled the pickup) and when you say a "direct line" what do you mean is it a digital camera that is picking up the sound and then you uploaded it? Sorry but im keen
Well, the guitar nowadays would cost upwards of $5000 US dollars, the pickup and installation were about $350. The pickup is active. The camera had a microphone picking up the sound and I also ran the pickup signal directly into the camera, blending the two sound sources. Hope that helps - good luck!!
It's a Lowden O-25 - Cedar top Rosewood sides and back - we recorded it with a mic and a direct line from my pickup (LR Baggs I-Beam) so that's part of the sound quality of this recording - but Lowden guitars are one of the finest builders of acoustic guitars on this planet, imo
Hey Jon, you have real talent, and feeling in your music, i am a Celt myself and play DADGAD also, and your music made me homesick, so thats about the biggest compliment i can give you!
really wonderful..thanks..about the chewing..it doesn't bother me..but another way to get rid of it would be to wear a cool mask or perhaps grow a large enough beard to hide it.... just some thoughts
Your playing is very musical. Practice biting on something, like a piece of a tooth pick. Then the side of your tongue. Eventually, you'll kick the habit. That's how my professor taught me. Yes, it's distracting. No, it's not difficult to fix.
This is great, I love the bit after 1:20 because it reminds me of the sea, Sounds almost like an old irish sailors tune or something. This is some really great work, is it in DADGAD?
Hey Jon, I came across the cd you gave me at Pierre's house and i thought i would see if you had any vids posted here. Na you did! Nicely done. I hope all is well with you.
Hey Mark, nice to hear from you! I watched the video you have posted, beautiful playing, too! Are you still in school for classical guitar? I'm moving to Ireland this summer; I'll be doing a program in Irish music at the University of Limerick in the fall.
A Lowden is indeed the perfect guitar for Celtic or anything in DADGAD. Nice job, and such a young man to play at this level - a real treat to hear and see.
jeez this is amazing. its by far the best celtic guitar playing i've heard on youtube so far.
from 50sec through 1.20 is the most beautiful melody i have ever heard. can you give the title of the song, i'm having some trouble finding it. thanks
The Shearing's Not For You, is the title that goes with that melody. It's a Martin Simpson arrangement; Thank you for your comment and I'm glad it inspired you!
great tone, nice playing. you seem all hunched over and balled up into the guitar.FWIW, i used to do that also, until i just closed my eyes, and let my finger memory take over, and it has vastly improved all aspects of my playing--especially if u are gonna play out, i learned no one wants to see the top of our heads. :)
You can find most of those arrangements on "The Blarney Pilgrim" Celtic Fingerstyle compilation CD or DVD by Stefan Grossman's Guitar Workshop. I've made some slight changes and put together some sets of my own, but that's where I intially heard them.
Cool stuff man.

Is there an ambient room mic out of shot or is the pickup and preamp on ur guit just really foookin nice!?
calumcroft 3 years ago
The camera had a mic, plus we ran a line from my LR Baggs I-Beam pickup, which I love in the Lowden.
