Thanks Deitz, McPheeters Barracks is one of those love hate memories. There was an extreme amount of racial tension there in 70-71. Thank God it all worked out for the better. In so far as that area of Germany and Bad Hersfeld, I found that the people there were most receptive and gracious to the Americans. I lived on the economy in Gosmannsrode, 14 klics from the post. I loved it there. Bebra, Kircheim, Kassel, Fulda, Marburg all had some new to offer. Thanks , Bob Wallace D co. 54th eng 70-71
@PhantomCountry Bob thank for your post. I was in Hersfeld when Martin Luther King was killed. The only serious racial tension I experienced was while we were in Graf for training. After leaving the Graf EM Club I was jumped by two, I survived with only a concussion ;-)
Man brings back memories. I can't believe how much it's changed but still looks the same. I was there when we (3/11-58th Red Devils) moved to 2/11 in Wildchicken (Wildflecken)
@vaginalbloodphart Thanks, some of us are sharing our memories via our facebook group: Bad Hersfeld, Germany .... U R invited to join us .... thedeitz .com

@pooppooppuffs1 I don't know the answer. BTW: A lot of question of that kind are being posted and replied to via facebook. The Group is called Bad Hersfeld, Germany
I guess it posted the message twice. My internet was acting up. Anyway, yes I did check it out. I also was wondering if you knew how I could get a copy of my German Schutzenschnur Bronze (marksmanship) award orders. I went when I was stationed there. I think it was with 470th Feldjagers. AWESOME site by the way.
@turtle19dad Sarg sorry I can't help you with the German Schutzenschnur Bronze. I too would like to have my German Schutzenschnur Bronze orders. I still have my Marksmanship badge for my weapons proficiency with their German MG42. Let me know if you have any luck.
I was in the 564th MP Company, the group that lived on Subpost. I was in the last group of people living there when it closed. Thank you for the photos. I have long since been wanting to go back to Bad Hersfeld. I would like to show my family where I used to be stationed. I hope to someday make it back there to see it for myself. Thanks again.
@turtle19dad Thanks for your post Turtle. I've been back twice with the family and it was a treat for all. WE also made some new German friends there. Have you visited our web page at w w w thedeitz.com ?

Deitz - Du hast tiefe Erinnerungen an Bad Hersfeld und die Kaserne auf der Hohen Luft. Wann wirst Du wieder einmal nach HEF kommen? Wir sollten uns treffen und von alten Zeiten reden.
