  • this guy really overblew the pentile display difference. I've worked with both the galaxy s2 and the galaxy nexus and the Nexus has a much better display. Blacks pixilated? He spewed that out of his ass. The blacks on this display are DEEP and there is no pixilation.

  • i find when someone speaks on webcam with a microphone.. they somehow lose credibility..i don't know why... they just do

  • Leo I love my galaxy nexus. I do agree I'm don't like the on screen soft keys they get in the way.. but over all the screen is very nice and its fast

  • Re: Lenovo Ideapad: reviewer says "under a half inch thick," graphic says "0.59-inch thick." Last time I checked, 0.59 > .5. Juuuuust wondering which it is, that's all.

  • 09:53 what the HELL is up with the hand action

  • I always wondered what happened to Leo.

    God bless TechTV.

  • Not satisfied ...

  • i would like more comparisons and detail. i love this idea for a show. Get through the clutter and tell me what i should focus on.

  • It's funny that Leo says to not be in a rush to upgrade your Galaxy S II to Android 4.0 because he "likes having physical buttons" and "having a search button on the bottom." Doesn't he realize that an OS upgrade to an existing phone isn't going to magically change the hardware buttons to soft buttons?

  • @reidjim76 i dont think he knows enough about this androids to do this. if he cant find a way to make the screen auto rotate he shouldnt be reviewing a phone.

  • @reidjim76 that may be so, but is there anything to say the new "soft button" system can totally ignore the hardware buttons? I dont' know enough abou the hardware to say if the button presses generate interrupts, and whether such interrupts can be masked, or the ISR could just ignore button presses.

  • @rchandraonline - For an example of how Ice Cream Sandwich works on a phone with hardware buttons, take a look at the Nexus S. The hardware buttons work fine and there are no soft buttons on the screen. Leo should know this.

  • i never use the search any ways

  • I love the soft buttons, ive gotten used to them since I also have a galaxy tab. Once you see this phone play a full screen HD movie and the buttons are completely hidden...WOW.

  • Another great show from Leo and company, looking forward to the coming shows! I've read some of the complaints about Leo's review of the Nexus, but I got a GS2 because all the pre-release reviews by other sites didn't make me want one as much as I'd hoped. The 5 MP camera killed it for me and the overall reviews just haven't been that stellar. So far I'm very happy with the Samsung Galaxy S II and will see what the next best thing will be in a year and a half! Maybe quad cores by then?

  • @062brown I hope the ARM processors will go in the way of intel, beyond four cores and popularize that way. an equivalent to an i5 or i7 would be crazy.

  • Great show, really enjoyed it.

  • Finally a sensible review of the Galaxy Nexus. I've been testing one for a few weeks now and I agree on nearly all points. (I loved the screen) Also, the antenna performance was abysmal.

  • I love Leo; and I love his take on things. But I also LOVE MY GALAXY NEXUS. Leo is very picky visually; color accuracy ect. but I think the screen is gorgeous. It's so vivid - but it is certainly not as accurate as a few others - but to me the vividness is worth it. I think most of the negatives about the phone are simply this... it's new... upgrades are coming for fixes here and there... and please be patient. This was a bold and radical step; but take it - because this phone's silky smooth!

  • Bad bad review...totally biased review

  • @1nuk3d1 correction. .an apple fag

  • @ oh correction an apple fag.....

  • @1nuk3d1 i dont care. ..how i spell....or how i speak. .english. ..i made my point...he is a apple fag...if u r reviewing sumthing then u shudnt lie...but this guy made this lovely fon luk lyk shit....he is d first reviewer to c pixels on GN...

  • The title of this video is "Before You Buy 1: Leo Reviews The Galaxy Nexus" yet the video is 27 minutes long and contains mostly non-related content. Can we get just the Galaxy Nexus review portion of this video?

  • luckily nothing matters except the users final review are should I say experience

  • HTC review is old, how many times, no more.

  • Hey Leo!

    Enjoyed the program.

I just purchase my Galaxy Nexus from Verizon and added the larger battery.

Enjoying the Google experience. On issue I have is the contact photos that came across from my Gmail account look terrible. Very large an low res. On my Droid X they looked fine.

This phone is all about eye candy but fails on this one point with me.So far that my only issue.

This is a powerful fast phone on the Verizon 4g system.

  • picked up the nexus yesterday, love it so far. I think Leo needs to consider a persons choice of carrier. Its hands down the best phone on Verizon in my opinion. the galaxy 2 may technically be better in certain areas but for me it wouldn't have been worth giving up Verizon along with my unlimited data plan and going AT&T for the S2, the difference between the 2 phones wouldn't justify that.

  • Pretty terrible review. Really, the soft buttons don't relocate in landscape...? .... .... Who cares?

  • @himalaya1111 Idiot, do you not know what pentile display is? Go google it... that pentile is why the pixel is visible... Far out , go do more research because PPI is not everything.

  • I strongly agree that the GS2 is a better phone, but VZW does not carry that. Personally, I'm on a GSM network and chose the Galaxy Note over the Nexus due to it being a niche device with much more firepower than the Nexus. ICS is great, but when any of the other phones in the Galaxy series get it, they will trump the Nexus. Megapixels aren't everything, however; when it's the same camera, that makes a huge difference. Processor does as well, 1.4-1.5ghz over 1.2 is always a winner.

  • @himalaya1111 You should learn to spell correctly if you want to actually give feedback to someone that will actually take the time to read something as crap as that....

Also, he may like the iphone, but he has also liked a few android devices, and he HAS given fair review to android devices, unlike some other people that may not. So please, learn more before you speak, don't base everything off of one review he has done. What truly is depressing, is seeing you try to talk..Thanks.

  • Comment removed

  • Shame on you Leo. You have a right to voice your opinions all you want but you're speaking way outside your tech ability to be making any kind of recommendation and shame on you for that title. In fact your "review" of ICS is downright lazy and sloppy journalism. What's also troubling are the comments thanking you.

  • 480p video is a joke. EVERYONE Except TWiT are doing HD videos.

  • good show..i believe that the galaxy s ii is the best phone out there...android or non android

  • Hey Leo, do everyone a favor. Stop pretending you give a shit about anything but Apple crap. I've seen your supposedly Android shows where all you do is talk about Apple shit.

  • @dameckes He does no android show himself? TWiT's android show is done by 3 totally different people, leo has never been on it. He has also given fair review of android devices before, so no, he's not just pretending, idiot (oh, and yes you are, since you seem to think he does an android show himself....).

  • I don't understand. He said a lot of postie things about the phone but then says "Don't Buy." The PenTile display is minor and really noticeable at 3mm from your eye. But that does suck about apps' having a dpi problem with the HD resolution and that ever changing menu's button.

I am the Galaxy 2 on AT&T and they said it will be getting ICS. Knowing every AT&T and Samsung, it wont come. There was a report that the Infuse and Captivate would be getting Gingerbread but that went vaporware.

  • great review. gotta say im still gonna buy. not to stoked about the five pixel camera but its stilla winner i think. cant wait!!!!!!

  • This 480p video looks like crap on my VZW Galaxy Nexus.

  • @devinshoe yeah he actually talked about it in the video minuets after i posted that :(

  • Any way you could break up the videos so that you can watch each product review by itself?

  • @cameronjmulder Look on this YouTube account, I think all the reviews are uploaded separately except the Nexus review.

  • Show looks good, I just disagree with the choices. The ultrabook is the laptop of the future, albeit maybe not that one specifically. And there is no real reason to buy a SGS2 over the SGN

  • I love the new show, especially the rating system. finally, a system that makes sense for the average person. I look forward to seeing what they'll be reviewing next. plus, it gives a great chance to see what other twit personalities are on different shows. i think my next move is going to be checking out the all about android podcast. thanks for the hard work and great job guys, can't wait for your next episode.

  • I don't know how anybody can enjoy there cell phone if they don't have an iPhone. I couldn't imagine my life without my iPhone. In my opinion every other phone is shit or an iPhone wannabe.

  • @LuckyBambooExpert I don't know why y'all feel as though your iphone is so great ; you have to watch every video of the single video and post, about the Galaxy Nexus .

And I can see the similarities between the two , how the iphone has the 4.65" HD screen , the widgets , free turn by turn navigation , task bar , voice command , LTE, the fact that you can change keyboards and messengers..... I see , exactly how google stole from the iphone

  • So far so good! Look forward to more reviews. Would like to see a round up of all the Micro 4/3's cameras :-)

  • Love the feel and format

  • Leo, you're mistaken about the screen. Both the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Nexus use AMOLED displays; the Galaxy S II display is a Super AMOLED+, which uses an RGB subpixel matrix. The Galaxy Nexus uses a Super AMOLED display, which is similar, but uses a split RG/BG subpixel matrix called PenTile. Both are AMOLEDs; you refer to PenTile in lieu of AMOLED on the Galaxy Nexus, which is incorrect.

  • Great show, but I wish Leo would do it from Radio Corner!!!

  • most of those "brick and mortar" stores have closed in my city.

  • on the kindle fire, you can disable the silk assist, and the browser speeds up considerably!

  • Leo, your job is to review products, not voice over and over and over your personal preferences...i love not having physical buttons. Also, your comment on the megapixels is skewed...i hope you know the bigger number of pixels doesnt necessarily mean better quality. Unfortunately, your first episode has turned me off. Too many negative comments about a great phone (one that has JUST come out). One less viewer here...good luck

  • @andyluciano8 You're an idiot

  • @Nolanlvr Just speaking from a tech perspective. Obviously, you do not know much about cameras, phones, or tech in general to make meaningful comments. I look forward to seeing what clever response you will come up with next...

  • @andyluciano8 Andy Leos job as a journalist is first and formost but this show isnt about granular ratings of products. By its Core it is Try, Buy or Dont Buy. So the Entire show is a products review option show, and I couldn't be more thrilled. What good is there to have experts if we cant benefits from the simplicity of their professional options? Leo Keep innovating and pushing out great content.

  • @WestveerNathaniel Good points. I was telling a friend of mine about this video (he actually posted on G+) I guess i reacted a little early. I respect his profession, and am actually quite jealous. I will be checking out what else he has to offer up.

  • Sorry Iyaz but .59 inches is not under a 1/2' (.5") thick...

  • I don't think that physical keys or dedicated keys are going away for every manufacturer. I mean, a lot of them are integrated into the phone. What are they going to do? just shut them off?

  • @saquerum I think google will be pushing for devices to not have buttons since the software has it now.. but on older hardware that already have them, the software disables the screen buttons I believe, and lets the hardware take over.

  • Good new show! I agree with Leo on physical buttons, operating the phone with them much easier. I didn't used a Galaxy Nexsus but Galaxy S2 with MIUI has many similar functions like Ice Cream Sandwich. And it will get ICS soon as well. I hope Leo will continue to impress us with great episodes and more shows. Thank Leo and your crew for great content!

  • Skip all the way to 18:30 for the ACTUAL CONTENT advertised by the headline.

  • @Blunty3000 Thanks saw you comment late, had to go through all.

  • @Blunty3000 Thank you!!!

  • @Blunty3000 the whole content is the actual show though.

  • I like this new show! Any way to insert the times that reviews appear in the show? I linked here from something posted on Twitter and wanted to see the Nexus review. I found the review at the 18:20 mark of the show, but that took some time to find it. Thx.

  • 17:00 TechTV!

  • Leo is biased why would I trust his review one way or another?

  • i`m a hardcore android fan, and i was so ready to blow my lid here...but i watched the review of the nexus and found his like`s and gripe`s fair.

Yes it`s personal opinion but fair.

Not that i want to give up my galaxy s2 anyway.

  • On the Nexus review, Leo's completely confused about display. The Nexus display is Super AMOLED, which does use the pentile color patterning. The Galaxy SII is Super AMOLED+, which uses a slightly more dense RGB color patterning. But in fact, EVERY display uses groups of RGB subpixels: CRT, LCD-TN, LCD-IPS, all OLEDs, etc. The difference is that Pentile displays have fewer than three subpixels per regular pixel (the original pattern used RGBRG in a pentagon, this the "pen" in pentile).

  • That's the least positive review of Galaxy Nexus out of EVERY single review out there.

  • "I don't think Ice Cream Sandwich is a big improvement" @ 26:03

Somewhat decent review but that comment just killed it for me.

  • Kind of heavy on personal opinions, but looks like a good start to the show.

  • I agree with leif1981... the auto-bright is too aggressive. At a proper level, this is the best screen I've seen on any portable device, including the iPhone 4/4S and the HTC Rezound (which was pretty much my only alternative, and also a worthy screen, as well as full 720p).

I had zero problem adapting to ICS. I switched my tablet to Honeycomb, which I think makes ICS a bit easier. It's a vast improvement over 2.2. And all more logically self-consistent than anything short of iOS.

  • Like the show, but the show titles at the bottom of the shots are too big and distracting. They cover up the product shots almost every time they are being shown.

  • I'm tired of "haters" who trash people's work when that work doesn't support the pre-set opinions of the particular "hater".

  • The screen is amazing, just turn auto brightness off and you won't notice anything of the pentile. Only problem is that auto brightness is too aggressive atm which is easy to fix with software update.

Battery life was the best I had so far. Get easily 20-35 hours from it with medium usage.

About Path, that's not a problem of the device or Android, that's just a problem because the developer of Path did a very bad job on their Android App.

  • Sounds like you really regret the placement of the menu/buttons rather than the soft buttons.

  • Great Show Leo and TWiTs

  • @wilsontech1 hey what's up Wilson big fan of your videos, I'm aware that MOST are personal preferences I Woulda just liked for him to put himself in other peoples shoes just a lil bit..I think it should have at least got a "TRY IT OUT" but I respect his thoughts on the nexus none the less.

  • Love this show!!

  • Excellent opening episode, I'm certainly looking forward to to future episodes!

  • alot of personal preferences in his review of the nexus..he doesn't like the on-screen buttons,I do..Woulda been nice to show off android beam since he had 2 nexus's available,I wonder if he knows about that feature.and this is the first guy to see the pixels from all the videos I've seen I respect your review and U have a very good voice to detour some1 from buying but this will be my next phone! ;^)

  • @kayjay178 ALL reviews are bottom line personal preferences.

  • @kayjay178 i like " this is the first guy to see the pixels from all the videos"..i guess this ass is unaware that human eye loses ability to distinguish b/w pixels after 300 ppi....GN is jus 6 ppi less than iph...

  • @kayjay178 I agree I bought the G Nexus and it is an amazing phone You have to be an old man who needs glasses not to see the display is pure and readable @ any angle. As for the menu buttons it is on the right top or right btm and the buttons on the btm there are only 3 so once they become dots it does not take a rocket scientist to figure them out, there movement with the rotation of the phone well I won't even dignify that one. Trust me buy this phone you won't be disappointed.

  • @kayjay178 I agree, I think the buttons is probably just from having that experience from the beginning, someone new may think differently, though them letting the application decide is probably not the best decision after so long though.

  • To say ICS is not a big improvement is ridiculous. That being said I do agree about the onscreen buttons, I prefer hardware buttons too. But that is more a device issue than an ICS issue, as ICS still supports hardware buttons.

  • are you crazy the Galaxy Nexus is amazing

  • If you have Verizon you have no other choice but the Galaxy Nexus. SGS2 is not available.

  • I thought the Rezound was the first hd mobile screen? Someone correct me if im wrong

  • Regarding the Galaxy Nexus.

It's already been debunked that the screen is somehow inferior because of Pentile. The claims are drastically overblown, with a ~320dpi, you can't notice it.

The virtual buttons are something to be praised, not feared. It adds consistency that has been lacking. You can't put 3 android phones side by side and expect their capacitive/hardware buttons to be similar or in the same order. As for the menu button, this will be alleviated once developers update to ICS.

  • Verny nice opening episode, Leo. I do find it slightly amusing, however, that you spent more time reviewing the Nexus on TWIT this past sunday than you do here :)

  • Loved it

  • This was a strong opening episode and the format is definitely good with a perfect running time. I'm definitely subscribing and I'm looking forward to the next episode. Great work, guys.

  • YES!! Love the new show!

  • The only problem is the Galaxy S2 isn't on Verizon so really the Galaxy Nexus is a "buy" since it's the best phone for the carrier it's on.

  • just the right amount of time.

  • I like how the show is produced nice flow. Only thing I don't care for too much and the same is true of other twit shows is the product shots they are hard to see. When they use the overhead its nice but besides that its hard to get a good view. Like the screen from the nook or the samsung phones. I love the show keep at it uncle leo.

  • i was checking out the phones side by side in the store...i have to admit, the display on the s2 is way better. the nexus seemed "dull". but that aside i loved ics and the removal of buttons. but yeah...the screen was meh

  • Pretty good show.I always wondered why twit didn't have a product review show

  • what the hell!!! i just ordered my galaxy nexus today. after watching i feel like i might have made a mistake!!!!

  • @lilxrich123 Seriously?! There are tons of reviews of the Nexus on the internet and you are solely basing your decision on this one video review? Leo is great but I am not relying on him and only him as my review source.

  • Really interesting products for the first show! Looks awesome so far, good work!

  • The fact that it has a system restore button scares me. I mean, does that me that I'll have to expect it to break??? LoLs!

  • 1st! The BYB Website isn't working though...
