Yeah he did but most of the time he was hurt during those times. I wouldn't be surprised if Oden after he plays has to get a prosthetic knee cap or have his ankles fused together because of him getting hurt so much.
if only he was healthy he would be really good, he could be 1 of the best centers if he was then given another couple of years possibly another Dwight Howard
for those yall who say greg a bust... yes he turned out to be a bust injury prone... but who would have chosen durant over a big pure center? nobody.... picking a swingman whos expected to take over the game like lebron or kobe is risky but picking a bigman who seems to be ready to play in the professional level is more likely for anybody
oh greg..... only if you had stayed at osu one more fucking year....... my blazers wouldn't have chosen you over durant...why!! why did you do that? you still take courses at osu.... fucka why didnt you stay one more goddamn year
Sad to see this happen to Oden... a great player who just is slowed down by something he can't help.. Just like Michael Redd , the weird thing is they both went to Ohio State
people stop saying that hes done and the injurys has stopped him from being a good player. he's not even started yet, when he is back and can play full 30 to 35 minutes hes gonna be the leading center in the leauge.
in his rookie season he averaged 11.1 ppg and 8.5 rpg in only 24 minutes! i hope the injurys wont come back and he can play again
@cormorano83 Actually not true, Durant had the better overall season that year and Oden's only real breakout game was when has put up a 25-12 in the Championship. The debate was more 50/50 than Oden heavy.
@ kelvinickable...definetely agree with you...I mean also look at Kwame Brown...everyeone though he was going to be good but he hasnt done anything in the NBA... 7pts and 6 rebounds a game arent what you call fantastic for a 1st overall pick
@1suzukidealer Yao had an actual career. He managed to play especially his early years. Greg oden hasn't done anything in 3 years because of injury. Not a real comparison honestly.
ppl always talk about "when this guy gets healthy he's gonna do..." this guy hasnt proved shit cuz he's never playin. 3 stright years with this guy not playin a game (probably played 1 i think...) i'm gettin suspicious if this guy isn't just lookin to get paid n not do shit
Unfortunately, Oden will always be remembered for being picked ahead of Kevin Durant. I'd like to see Oden get healthy and have a strong comeback, but he reminds me of Jamarcus Russell from the NFL. Great talent, but has weight and work ethic issues.
All of you guys are hating on this player because he's injured? common, he's never been given an opportunity to blossom in the league. but he's still young, he will comeback strong, mark my words haters.
I can't believe people are still defending this guy. Greg Oden SUCKS and I'm not just saying that just to be an asshole. If I missed TWO FULL SEASONS due to injury, chances are that the NBA isn't for me. When you draft somebody #1 usually you would want them to have some kind of impact on the team. Why this guy still has a job, I don't know, I know people that will actually PLAY and would probably take half of what he's paid.
@kelvinickable I like to think that they weren't the best deals. It's not the people who scouted them's fault, it's just the year the team sucked they didn't get the absolute best for their lucky lottery. With that out of the way- the only centers that come to mind that teams can look up to is andrew bogut and dwight howard(big time for dwight). Centers get injured too much and normally just get shut out by sucking at free throws. My team would love to have Oden.
@kelvinickable i agree. Oden just needs more time. just like beyonce needs more time to realize that Jay z is a loser and that you're the one she needs. I agree. the people on here that are saying oden is a bust are MORONS. they are caught up in the fact that Oden has played 82 games in FOUR YEARS. u are so smart.....only heaven knows why a nba franchise just doesn't hire u as a scout. u have my vote for sure......
@kelvinickable i'm sarcastic because I don't understand how people can still justify Oden being a top pick when it's blatantly OBVIOUS that he's a BUST
Stop hating on Greg Oden. It isn't his fault that he keeps on getting injured. It is bad luck. Misfortune. Whatever you want to call it. When he stayed healthy for almost a year, he was doing great and was starting to get the feel for the game. The first thing he said when he got injured last season was "I'm sorry" despite all the pain he was in. If he had a choice, he would be healthy and dominating. Get well soon G.O.
All Greg Oden is a Sam Bowie. Screwed up knees and a whole lot of potential never tapped. I mean he won't last more than 5 years if he continues with these injuries. At least someone like Bill Walton had at least one good year with the Blazers before he got hurt. I mean what a waste. He needs to find some way to his knees right or he'll be crippled for life.
It's really sad that these injuries are holding him back like this. He was a monstorous rebounder and could have easily been a good offensive player. It's really sad. Portland won't extend him. And I doubt they'll resign or even match a offer next year. Dam I wish the best for him. Hopefully this is the last time he'll miss a season like this.
I still would have taken Oden #1 over-all. Durant is a superstar but you will find an elite player every year (Rose, Wall, etc) but it's not often that elite talent comes out playing the center position. I feel for Portland and Oden though because both put hard work in to make this work and terrible luck has derailed his career. Think Steve Emtman.
I supported Greg for a while now but after another season ending injury, im throwing in the towel. This guy officially has "bust" tattooed on his forehead.
@gjfwang Not from 2 microfracture surgeries and a fractured patella. Never heard of any player coming back from that many injuries. Oden is done. You can write him off for good. What a shame.
Blazers should seriously consider bringing back Sabonis to personally mentor this young monster. Show him how to be a truly skilled big man at his position, especially after coming off a severe injury. Maybe even help him develop a little bit of that court awareness that made Sabonis so special even when he was physically past his prime by the time he finally came to the NBA. Wouldn't hurt...
He should get out of that contract and start somewhere new. A lot of teams need a decent center and he still got potential, but this is going to be his last shot probably
I'm not completely convinced he's a bust. Let's see if he can be healthy for a full season, then make those comments. A healthy Oden I'm almost positive (as long as the injuries haven't effected his game) will be beast.
... The only hope is that another team has management as dumb as the Blazers and that the Blazers can trade him off. But realistically, this guy is done. There are too many other healthy players out there to keep waiting for someone that is never going to show up. The fat lady is singing "Stick a fork in it!"
.... Oden has until Oct. 31 to sign an extension or he would become a restricted free agent at the end of the season. Asked the status of that negotiation, he deflected the answer. The best thing for the Blazers would be to just let Oden go. There probably isn't much trade value for a guy that is physically and mentally incapable of playing in the NBA. ...
"Oden will not be ready for full contact when training camp opens Tuesday." Imagine that. Just like I said. Where are all you pom pom waving cheerleaders now? How does that crow taste? he said, "There's been good days, and there's been bad days." Most likely 90% bad. the good days are when he doesn't even get out of bed. "That's a hard question because I don't know when I'm going to be back," he said. Hopefully never. ..
@gjfwang At least one more year because thats when his rookie contract ends then we can talk about about resigning him or not. Hes actually was playing at a allstar level last year and can do freak things that no other center in the league outside of Howard can do that's why were not so quick to give up on him
wow, such a good decision picking him over durant! lol, portland doesn't know what the hell they are doing, first they miss MJ, now they miss durant, who is the future best player in the NBA.
@nextbestrockstar ya well fuck kd is mj and we got a better defensive small foward batuum. wich will be better then kd cuz batuum is offencive and dfencive and kd isnt fucking retard
@nextbestrockstar Who beat who when it counted. Blazers Lakers in OKC let them win Kobe took his first shot in the 2nd quarter. KD is good but they are about the same as a team as the Blazers. I still give Blazers the edge for the fact everyone was hurt but finish on top.
@nextbestrockstar No doubt they are young and with West and KD in the frontline they are good along with Maynor & James but they are still undersized. Until they can get a good post/rebounder they will be just behind the Blazers (a hurt Blazers). Pg spot tied up with Rus with a edge not by much SG Roy SF goes to KD PF gots to go to LMA and the center spot we got them owned Camby,Oden and Billa. When the team is healthy though.
@nextbestrockstar Yeah I would rather see POR,OKC,SAC, or even the other LA team Clippers get ahead but I think Utah and Sac will give the west teams trouble.
@nextbestrockstar They will have Bogut returning, they signed corey maggette, Michael redd will return, signed Drew Gooden, and drafted Larry Sanders that had an amazing showing at the summer circuit. Starting line up Brandon Jennings, John Salmons, Corey Maggette, Larry Sanders/Gooden/Mbah Moute/, Andrew Bogut. Not to mention the enormous depth at each position.
@nextbestrockstar KD was good but Oden was better. He impressed all the scouts speed ,power and size. Still KD is better in the NBA so thats what counts now.
how old is oden? 21 years old? and because he has some bad luck and hurts himself a couple years he's a bust? if he comes back and plays like shit for the rest of his career he's a bust. otherwise i think he'll be fine
Oden is a bust who will never live up to the hype and potential i heard he was meant to be the new shaq outta college more like hes the Jamarcus Russel Alex Smith and Brady Quinn of the nba majour bust just imagine the blazers could of had Kevin Durant
@giants2k8 listen, greg oden is still 22 years old. yes hes been injured, yes he has had awful seasons up to this point, but the dude is still a defense machine who can easily get 3 blocks a game, 10+ rebounds a game an 10 pts a game. i never said that he will turn out to be the next shaq, infact, i wouldn't have even taken him #1, but the dude still has a lot of upside.
He is a NBA player. But he will always be a decent defense player with no offensive skills. He can block a shot here and there. He will give you a few rebounds. That's it. He's a bust as a #1 pick because you expect more from a #1 than that.
exactly. 14 double doubles in 34 games playing 23 minutes a game in his rookie season coming off 13 months of no basketball and only 1 season college ball. he definitely wont get any better. the only thing i can see him from staying mediocre is injuries. he has stayed pretty healthy for a while now. just shut up and let him develope. his production in rookie year compared to Howard and Shaq are pretty good or better
he is averaging 8.0 ppg,7.3 rpg and 1.3 bpg in 22 min.i think he will still improve his stats as the season goes on though.if only he could get lik 30-35 min i think he will averaged a double double
Injuries happened. Just like so many other young stars before him. Just like many veteran and older star players. Injuries screw everyone. Some recover, others don't.
can you say bust? this guy is just a rehashed version of sam bowie that looks like he is 50 and moves like he is 60, I bet oden was buying newports and hennessy when he was 5 years old. I say give this guy 2 to 3 more years then his nba career will be over.
but for Oden being "the savior of the center position", i don't see it, he's simply too injury prone. Remember the guy named Ralph Sampson who once was said to be the next Chamberlain, yet his career was killed by a combination of pressure and injuries. Oden reminds me a lot of him right now.
before this season. I'd really believed and hoped that he could be as great as Hakeem or Robinson, right now, he sadly seems more like the next Michael Olowokandi :(
Greg Oden had one of the worst lines you'll see from a fantasy starter on Tuesday when he finished with zero points, two rebounds, zero blocks and five fouls in eight minutes against the Nuggets.
Joel Przybilla picked up the slack in his place with 10 points and 19 boards
you're right, and credit to Przybilla for his great play. I have to say that i haven't given up on Oden yet, his stats per 48 min. is decsent, and if he can learn to consistently stay out of foul trouble, i still believe that he one day can be a top 5, maybe even a top 3 center in the league, but as of right now, i doubt it
portland, say hello to your next sam bowie. all oden will ever have is size, he's too awkward and slow to ever be a reliable NBA player, not to mention the injury factor. get your oden loving in now portland fans, he'll be out of the league in 3 years
Yeah he did but most of the time he was hurt during those times. I wouldn't be surprised if Oden after he plays has to get a prosthetic knee cap or have his ankles fused together because of him getting hurt so much.

@gjfwang not his fault he gets injured
RedStarRevolver26 1 year ago
@gjfwang At least one more year because thats when his rookie contract ends then we can talk about about resigning him or not. Hes actually was playing at a allstar level last year and can do freak things that no other center in the league outside of Howard can do that's why were not so quick to give up on him
mkirkpatri02 1 year ago
@gjfwang give him a little bit of due luck. thats all im saying.

oden is good, although compared to someone that was picked after him (Kevin Durant) he is a huge bust

GO was a beast but it seems he will always be injured . Blazers need to move on if he doesn't produce.
MSotelo503 1 year ago
wow, such a good decision picking him over durant! lol, portland doesn't know what the hell they are doing, first they miss MJ, now they miss durant, who is the future best player in the NBA.
nextbestrockstar 1 year ago
@nextbestrockstar u dont get it they didnt need a small foward they needed a center cuz they just cant play prizbilla
pokemonmasters622 1 year ago
@pokemonmasters622 thats the same reason portland didn't draft MJ.
i still dont buy that bullshit. you pick the best player in the draft with the number 1 overall. oden was not that.
nextbestrockstar 1 year ago
@nextbestrockstar ya well fuck kd is mj and we got a better defensive small foward batuum. wich will be better then kd cuz batuum is offencive and dfencive and kd isnt fucking retard
pokemonmasters622 1 year ago
@pokemonmasters622 we can agree both teams were shitty when KD and oden were drafted.
which team was in the playoffs and took lakers to 6 games?
which player is the reigning scoring champion?
nextbestrockstar 1 year ago
@nextbestrockstar Who beat who when it counted. Blazers Lakers in OKC let them win Kobe took his first shot in the 2nd quarter. KD is good but they are about the same as a team as the Blazers. I still give Blazers the edge for the fact everyone was hurt but finish on top.
MSotelo503 1 year ago
@MSotelo503 Thunder are young, stocked with talent. and the 2011 nba mvp. mr. KD.
id take the thunder right now.
nextbestrockstar 1 year ago
@nextbestrockstar No doubt they are young and with West and KD in the frontline they are good along with Maynor & James but they are still undersized. Until they can get a good post/rebounder they will be just behind the Blazers (a hurt Blazers). Pg spot tied up with Rus with a edge not by much SG Roy SF goes to KD PF gots to go to LMA and the center spot we got them owned Camby,Oden and Billa. When the team is healthy though.
MSotelo503 1 year ago
@MSotelo503 ok then, we'll see what happens. hopefully someone knocks off the lakers.
lakers fans are the most annoying of any 12 year olds ive met in my life.
nuggets suck, spurs are old as hell, mavs suck, suns are gonna need to find someone to fill in for stoudemire.
pretty much lakers and whoever wants to step up.
nextbestrockstar 1 year ago
@nextbestrockstar Yeah I would rather see POR,OKC,SAC, or even the other LA team Clippers get ahead but I think Utah and Sac will give the west teams trouble.
MSotelo503 1 year ago
@MSotelo503 we can agree on something then. lakers suck.
now if only someone could beat the heat in the east. celtics and magic are the only logical choices. bulls maybe.
nextbestrockstar 1 year ago
@nextbestrockstar Milwaukee for sure, look at the roster they are way better than the bulls, and can compete against the celts and Magic just fine.
20yrsofgreatness 1 year ago
@20yrsofgreatness milwaukee? have they changed anything since getting beaten by atlanta?
nextbestrockstar 1 year ago
@nextbestrockstar They will have Bogut returning, they signed corey maggette, Michael redd will return, signed Drew Gooden, and drafted Larry Sanders that had an amazing showing at the summer circuit. Starting line up Brandon Jennings, John Salmons, Corey Maggette, Larry Sanders/Gooden/Mbah Moute/, Andrew Bogut. Not to mention the enormous depth at each position.
20yrsofgreatness 1 year ago
@nextbestrockstar KD was good but Oden was better. He impressed all the scouts speed ,power and size. Still KD is better in the NBA so thats what counts now.
MSotelo503 1 year ago
@nextbestrockstar Any GM in the NBA would of picked Oden over Durant if they had the Number 1 pick that year you idiot

how old is oden? 21 years old? and because he has some bad luck and hurts himself a couple years he's a bust? if he comes back and plays like shit for the rest of his career he's a bust. otherwise i think he'll be fine
crookedlettaz11 2 years ago
oden doesn't deserve the no.1 pick, if only the trail blazers know he's such a weak person.

Oden is a bust who will never live up to the hype and potential i heard he was meant to be the new shaq outta college more like hes the Jamarcus Russel Alex Smith and Brady Quinn of the nba majour bust just imagine the blazers could of had Kevin Durant
giants2k8 1 year ago
@giants2k8 listen, greg oden is still 22 years old. yes hes been injured, yes he has had awful seasons up to this point, but the dude is still a defense machine who can easily get 3 blocks a game, 10+ rebounds a game an 10 pts a game. i never said that he will turn out to be the next shaq, infact, i wouldn't have even taken him #1, but the dude still has a lot of upside.

jacobyfilms205 3 years ago 6
He is a NBA player. But he will always be a decent defense player with no offensive skills. He can block a shot here and there. He will give you a few rebounds. That's it. He's a bust as a #1 pick because you expect more from a #1 than that.
Utubehero13579 3 years ago
exactly. 14 double doubles in 34 games playing 23 minutes a game in his rookie season coming off 13 months of no basketball and only 1 season college ball. he definitely wont get any better. the only thing i can see him from staying mediocre is injuries. he has stayed pretty healthy for a while now. just shut up and let him develope. his production in rookie year compared to Howard and Shaq are pretty good or better
pimpsoldier0 3 years ago 2
Hell no! Shaq was already a beast when he was a rookie 23 PPG 13 RPG 3.5 BPG compared to Oden's 9 PPG 7 RPG and 1 BPG. BIG DIFFERENCE.

he is averaging 8.0 ppg,7.3 rpg and 1.3 bpg in 22 min.i think he will still improve his stats as the season goes on though.if only he could get lik 30-35 min i think he will averaged a double double
rApMoN14 3 years ago
he's got a lot of talent and potential but he doesn't deploy it. i don't know the reason but i think he is very arrogant about the nba
BlackHole210 3 years ago
Injuries happened. Just like so many other young stars before him. Just like many veteran and older star players. Injuries screw everyone. Some recover, others don't.
SmoothMM 3 years ago
can you say bust? this guy is just a rehashed version of sam bowie that looks like he is 50 and moves like he is 60, I bet oden was buying newports and hennessy when he was 5 years old. I say give this guy 2 to 3 more years then his nba career will be over.
DestructerX 3 years ago
i want to see you say it to his face retard
jr0stanley0mario 3 years ago
I wouldn't call him a bust because he does have talent, but he is just way to injury prone to ever live up to the hype of being the #1 draft pick.
jrsam25 3 years ago
but for Oden being "the savior of the center position", i don't see it, he's simply too injury prone. Remember the guy named Ralph Sampson who once was said to be the next Chamberlain, yet his career was killed by a combination of pressure and injuries. Oden reminds me a lot of him right now.
PrinsPJ 3 years ago
before this season. I'd really believed and hoped that he could be as great as Hakeem or Robinson, right now, he sadly seems more like the next Michael Olowokandi :(
PrinsPJ 3 years ago
me too,
Greg Oden had one of the worst lines you'll see from a fantasy starter on Tuesday when he finished with zero points, two rebounds, zero blocks and five fouls in eight minutes against the Nuggets.
Joel Przybilla picked up the slack in his place with 10 points and 19 boards
bettydaw1970 3 years ago
you're right, and credit to Przybilla for his great play. I have to say that i haven't given up on Oden yet, his stats per 48 min. is decsent, and if he can learn to consistently stay out of foul trouble, i still believe that he one day can be a top 5, maybe even a top 3 center in the league, but as of right now, i doubt it
PrinsPJ 3 years ago
portland, say hello to your next sam bowie. all oden will ever have is size, he's too awkward and slow to ever be a reliable NBA player, not to mention the injury factor. get your oden loving in now portland fans, he'll be out of the league in 3 years
