The original recording is by the Impressions (featuring Curtis Mayfield -who wrote it). Wasn't easy to find on YouTube but I did. The title just says "Gypsy Woman" but doesn't give the artist. It has a black&white picture of three guys.
Ok Ok he sounds good but he's sounds like he's tryin to copy curtis mayfield sound. The original still sounds better, this got to much of that 70's sound to me
I just love how much Brian Hyland grew and developed. That Bikini song of his is just terrible, but by 1970 he was doing songs like this. There is a lot of texture and attention to detail in this song--it is fabulous. Well done, Mr. Hyland!
....I LOVE THIS SONG!! I have the 45 rpm also, in my record & cd collection. Mr Hyland has a beautiful voice & this is a classic from 1970. I also keep up, with the times, I LOVE pop music from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, '00's! & now in 2010! I also LOVE LADY GAGA!! I'm 54 years old, & pop keeps me young at heart! Peace Gary in PA USA.

Thanks for sharing ur video!~Keep Rocking In The Free World, Babe!! ~,,,/ ~,,,/'
I got a really nice copy of this off ebay a few years back. I love this song, used to stay at my aunts house during summer breaks and listen to her old records, this was one of them.
I have an old Brian Hyland single "Hung Up In Your Eyes" b/w "Why Mine" on Philips with the pic sleeve. Until happening upon this post, I didn't know he meant so much to people. That's nice.
Great song! A lot of people don't know that Curtis Mayfield actually wrote this song and recorded it years before Brian's wonderful version. Thanks carols45s for this fantastic memory!
I stumbled across this great forgotten song. Reminds me of the sixth grade. I listened to it all summer while I was picking strawberries for school clothes money. Just me, my sister, and the transister radio. Great memories, great song!
I love this tune both versions Curtis.s and Brians but i have not heard any one say anything about Santanas version with his big band this is a must hear for Gypsi woman fans

@peteboy1113 very sad, I know certain songs remind me of someone dear whom I lost long ago, more than 20 years ago now , this song brings back bittersweet memories for me too. My best wishes to you.
great with del shannon's input. this version even better than the original by the Impressions. i remember this song during my army call-up in oz. thanksxxx
I have the Impressions original on a CD called The Best of The Tams and The Impressions. There are five each songs to both groups. The first five are the Tams, and the second 5 are The Impression. It's this song that kicks off the Impressions half of the disk.
Recorded in 1970 by Hyland, written by Curtis Mayfield and a hit for him and his group The Impressions 9 years prior. Produced by Del Shannon and I believe he sings back up vocals as well. This recording has never seen the light of day in true stereo--on the original UNI LP and later CD releases the song shows up in mono, surprising because by then even most mono 45s had stereo LP counterparts.
1970 was way before my time i was born in 1978. but i heard this song from an oldies station my parents listened to. when my teen years came, the music died. the way i see it, after the 1980s the music stopped. today if you have a tiny waiste, big knockers, then you're a star. what a pitty... this song is the bomb too bad i was born too late..
Great song....but you must be joking when you the heartbreak kid was a fantastic movie....it was not even a good movie and its a insult to the first one...but since you like that arrogant loser ben stiller, you are probably too young and stupid to know that....
Thankfully this song is now available on cd! My 45's of this wore out years ago, and they sounded like crap anyhow. The new remastered cd sounds like you're right in the studio.

A cool version by a white guy. I f you want to hear another Curtis Mayfield composition sung extremely well by white guys check out "Sister Love" on You Tube's " Nuggets from the Liverpool Five ( Part 2)". It's very good.
....I think that Brian Hyland's version of this Impressions 60's soul classic, is simply AWESOME!!! Great song by Brian Hyland! Produced by the late Del Shannon. Peaked on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in November 1970!
Bravo, Brian Hyland & Del Shannon (R.I.P., Sir)!

Yeah, as a kid, I too never went anywhere without my favorite transistor radio.
AM radio only. The sound of endless static....no matter how good the reception....always some amount of static in the background.
Oh!, and that little white earpiece (with the long white wire) always in my right ear!
