Seem to me David Byron and Mick Box were Heep sounding before Hensley.
I love Hensley, but here is some real credit for the best guitarist in the world!

Ken recorded Head Machines album Orgasm (1970) after leaving Toe Fat and immediately before joining Heep.
He also recorded the album Weed...! in 1971. The band Weed were Ken Hensley and members of the german band Virus.
