I don't know what happened to my previous comment, so here's another one:
Gerard Love is an amazing songwriter, as are Ray and Norman. Gerard's songs "Near You," "Discolite," "Sparky's Dream," "I Need Direction," etc., are unhealded classics in the vein of Gram Parsons, Gene Clark, and Alex Chilton. I am very glad I bought that Grand Prix cd, sight unheard, way back when...
According to archive records, the TOTP crowd were sprayed with a fine mist of water and connected to a surging electrical current. They had no choice but to dance!

@josueamericanistarv That is an excellent crowd indeed. I remember seeing them at Norwegian Wood 10 years ago and just chilled on the grass drinking my beer. The sun was shining and I was inebriated (in other words; life was perfect), but as all was chilling just as I was the band was wondering why no one was up and cheering. I regret it to this day that I did not show them my support, but it is still one of my favorite shows of all time.
@10ccalanarkush ....I reckon it sometimes takes TFC a few songs to get the harmonies right (although the last gig I went to they were perfect from note 1 of start again) so I reckon that'#s what happened here. When the harmonies are right, they're just the best band in the world.
Fuck, that dude IS playing the autoharp.

@adaniru The bass player is the one who wrote the song. It's technically "his" song, so it makes sense.

They seem more folk than rock here (Byrds?) but still with the same highly infectious chiming rhythms.

are they just singing over a backing track?
SimMaster 7 months ago
@SimMaster TOTP always did that. It was a very orchestrated performance.
