Despite what most ignorant people are saying on here this bass is actually a very decent instrument for a cheap price. Nice warm sound to it, it feels very comfortable to play compared to most basses too due to the body shape and shorter neck. Not for metal players I agree but for what it's worth it's a great bass for beginners and pros for most genres. And I say that as a bassist whose been playing for nearly 10 years now.
this is not a bad bass at all. if you're looking for a bass guitar with "bass" tones, don't even comment here alright. my band plays post-punk where we need this kind of tone, so fuk off!
@felporocker pfft, not a bad bass at all. I actually talked my bassist into getting one just because they are small and have a great sound to em... especially when you factor in the price. Jared from the Black Lips was using one last time I saw them on tour too! :o
@babidaboopy Well i just wanted to help...i 'm not like these stupid people who say ''never play bass with a pick you faggot'',but some songs aren't meant to be played with a pick!Anyway,do whatever you want,i don't really care and please don't tell me about progression in music,i 've been playing music for many years and i know that in order to make progress you have to be receptive of new ideas and ways of playing...Good luck
@Xxrickibee94xX Well, even if you are not advanced a p bass is a better choice in my opinion. The bronco bass is actually kind of different than the ''real'' basses,it's shortscale, the pickup is different...So i recommend a p(or a j) bass. The choice is yours!!! :)
I replaced the tuners with some I found on E-bay from an '03 Squier P-Bass; they were only about $20 w/shipping incld. Thumb rest was $6, and black Strat style tone and volume knobs around $12 at Guitar Center. GHS Precision Flats about $30 shipping incld from Just Strings.com, and roll of racing stripe was around another $20 from Pep Boys, total $94 in bling added to an $80 Bronco Bass from Craigslist.
the pickup is rubbish tho and the start off strings could be better so if ya get one i'd suggest changing at least the pickup cos the stock one isn't even a bass pickup
@mariofanatic101 To be honest with you I haven't run into that problem at all. My bass holds a tune pretty well. I think it could be one of 3 things for your bronco. 1) Bad Strings - easy fix 2) Bad Machine Heads - not too bad or 3) Bowed Neck - inconvenient. Do you live in a place where temperatures fluctuate easily? If you've checked into these already, I'm sorry.. Still a sick bass. I had to have me a red one though. I already have two black guitars. Peace
@ScatterBrained1986 So I have one question if I didn't want the short scale neck on this and I want a regular Squier/Fender neck do you think it would go onto this bass without any problems?
Not just for beginners. I'm a working bass player in a 60's cover band that owns a lot of vintage style basses. I'm 47 been playing bass since '79, and I picked up a used one for $80, replaced the tuners, added racing stripes, a thumb rest and flatwound strings. Now it's awesome. A cool cheap alternative to a Musicmaster or Mustang.
@redrick2030 yeah, a thumb rest would make this bass a lot easier to play so I don't have to use a pick all the time. The way you hooked up your Bronco, the thing has got to be a BEAST now. Especially with the racing stripes. Play any Beatles?
@redrick2030 The thumb rest is more for vintage vibe than utility. I rarely use it. I mainly play with a pick in my 60's band. The pickup itself makes for a good thumb rest just like a P-Bass when I play with fingers on a few numbers. I highly recommend GHS Precision Flats for this bass. I gave them a shot and it was the right choice. Another guy on a bass forum did the same, and we both agree that it makes the pickup sound awesome. And yes we do several Beatles songs.
@redrick2030 Yes I agree - I am bassman since 1982 and I am professional. I palyed Mustang, Musicmaster and Bronco - Bronco is very good bass for this money.
@redrick2030 how much did it cost to kit ur bronco up? i'm looking to get mine done hopefully with a mustang or jazz bass pickup and custom pickguard. and watever else needs changing lol

It probably sounds like one because he's most likely playing through a 10watt practice amp with the volume on 2.

I guess someone should tell Bobby Vega to quit playing ' cuz he uses a pick for funk.
Hmmm.. Wonder how he made it playing with Tower of Power all those years?
Really who cares what you use to make music. Tone is in the hands.

Please don't play ''play that funky music'' using a pick...It's funk, wich means no pick, just fingers and slap!

@argydaf People can play funk however the fuck they like lad and that's why we've got progression in music.

The thing about these short scale basses is they have this thing with intonation. It always sounds off. They make great piccolo basses though.

great guitar for beginners.but also just an over all great guitar.

try letting the bass guitar rest higher on the strap and your playing will increase with dramatic ease in other words shorten the lenght of the strap
