Sorry you guys I like Aretha but some times she is ungrateful, tacky and voice is bad. I agree with you modern Ree Ree needs to sit down. but Gladys, Etta, and Tina still got it.
No, I know plenty about soul music, and also I know that I'd rather see legends age gracefully, as opposed to continuing to perform when they clearly don't have what it takes anymore.
Ben E. King from The Drifters is one of my favorite singers ever, but the guy jut can't cut it anymore live. So i think he should stop performing, same goes for Chuck Berry (granted that's rock n roll, not soul), but the idea is the same. Know when to bow out. Too many people stick around too long.
@a1d2h No momentum, her voice is still fairly good, but the set lagged, and her introducing her band took FOREVER. It wasnt necessary. im a huge soul fan but i wouldve preferred to see Stevie Wonder instead, but hey, the rest of the show was insanely good so i cant complain. That song from Ragtime was weak, and her version of New York, New York was embarrassing.

Aretha's set wasn't lackluster. Aretha's set was great. She's the first woman inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame and has pocessed a voice that has commanded the attentions of almost everyone for well over half a century.
