  • It is sick how people can disassociate from reality; Dan makes excuses for his commitable mother and blames it all on his father who wasn't even there most of the time. Think about your own compartmentalization when an Indonesian banker puppet tells you to stand down & turn your heat and electricity off because he loves you so much!

  • @XxBeJeweledDancerxX ok now that you've posted your comment with a textbook on psychology sitting in front of you containing big words, why don't you put the book down and post a comment people can actually relate to.

  • @pattisgirls I have two dozen references to use. Which would suit you the best considering the six+ wars this country is involved in? And consider the ...well.. how many phrases does the main stream media use: austerity, conservation, but the main issue is that Dan's mother finally gets recognized for being bipolar & that we have major politicians behaving the same way: I.E. waging wars while accepting peace prizes. Can you grasp that or do I have to pull out the straight jackets? It was a joke.

  • @XxBeJeweledDancerxX Sorry. This episode hit really close to home, I didn't mean to be disrepectful of your knowledge, please forgive me. I reacted out of my own lack of information.

  • Which episode is the one where Dans mother comes to visit and tries to kill him?

  • @SuperGrad18 "Arsenic and Old Mom"

  • No i'm not mad Jim....!

  • LOL Roseanne was right how Audrey beat Ben to the loony bin.

  • Fed is being stupid!

She shouldn't have 2 lie 2 him in order 2 make him feel better about himself... I'd rather someone i was dating 2 be woman enough 2 be as honest as possible, better he hear it from her than from other ppl! He acting like she told him the baby wasn't his! haha

  • @kcland2ko I second that, and third that. He's being a wuss. I hate double standards.

  • Dan is awesome, but he is wrong in this situation. His dad is a good, yet flawed man. He deserves a break.

  • Can't believe what some of you guys are saying. A divorce is a divorce and whether you have to pay alimony, child support, w/e, it is your job to do it man or woman. Its wrong to use any kind of excuse to back out of your responsibility. I don't think it was completely Dan's mom's fault for being mental. Her husband was gone the majority of the time and she had to raise a kid by herself. Spending lonely nights like that suck. Dan knows what his dad put his mom through so he wasn't manipulated.

  • @MaiMunky You'd be surprised at the number of women who raise their kids without support or their husband being there. And most have more than one kid!

  • @TbredGrits91 I'm not saying that there aren't. I think you missed my point. I think people should take responsibility for their actions especially if you have kids you should prepare for the consequences. Yeah, sure, many single parent families do well but it is still mentally and physically draining to do a two person job. I come from a single parent family myself. Your parent may seem strong but there will be times that they will cry and you won't know and if you do its...painful.

  • @MaiMunky Right, the father should take responsibility. . I totally agree with you. I can't imagine how draining it is. I don't know how my mom raised me and my two sisters without any help!

  • @MaiMunky Isn't that the ever-loving truth? I come from a single-parent household. My mother, who is the strongest person I know, has revealed to me how many times she would walk home from work, crying and not knowing how she was going to handle all of the stress that was burdening her (making sure her kids had everything they needed and supporting her immediate family back in another country all on a single paycheck). Supporting a family, let alone two, alone is very difficult and painful.

  • How in the hell did John Goodman not win an Emmy for this episode?

  • This episode seems so much different once you've seen the one where Dan learns the truth about his mom. Ed becomes such an awesome character when you know that he's allowed Dan to blame him for all those years instead of telling his son that his mother has been mentally ill for his entire life.

  • the whole thing with dan and his dad is so tired ed is a bit of a jerk but he's right dan's mom is mental and he has a new wife and three kids to worry about and ed's suppose to give up a couple hundred dollars so she can piss it away on crap

  • I so totally agree with you and those are young kid, Ed's kids, toddlers I think at this point.

  • Dan's dad is such a dick.

"Woman have a tendancy to do that sort of thing."

"Women have a tendancy to et upset when you treat 'em like crap!"

    You tell him, Dan.

  • david's old house

  • omg that sweater jackie's wearing XD where do they get their clothes

  • The 90's

  • yea everything was like that in the 90's. Watch the first season of 90210...everything was ugly...hehe including what I was wearing.

  • @kimLmuziek someone gave u a thumbs down for your comment and thats not nice so i'm changing it for u..... :)

  • haha well thank you very much:) it wasnt meant mean or something..

  • The sweaters are AWFUL!

  • I love Dan.

  • wut

  • That's so sad.

    Poor Dan.

    : [

  • Damn. The ending is so sad.

  • LMAO "the big fuzzy thing yelling at the milk machine"

  • crystals house is the same house that davids mom lived in.

  • it's crazy how much character development and backstory there is in this sitcom. It's so un-sitcom-like, really. I mean, here's Dan in high school, probably having to look after his mom (who we find out later has a mental illness) while his dad was a traveling salesman. He played football and dated cheerleaders, and probably none of his friends ever knew the responsibility he felt at home... Then he meets Roseane... and her backstory is just as complex....

  • So true to life.

    Everyone has a story/stories

  • wow John Goodman is a awesome actor!

  • "Women tend to get upset when you treat them like crap!"

Dan is such a great man. I think his mom manipulates him, but he's got a big heart.

  • @Tanavids Dan reminds me of how my dad used to be. Goofy and really fun to be around--until he met Joan Crawford, reincarnate, and let his personality be squelched. I guess even having a big heart has its downfalls.

  • @scketron89 OMG, your father met Joan Crawford? Loved her in GRAND HOTEL!

  • I agree and disagree with ur comment. Dan is kind of indenial about his mother, and does seem to be treating his father pretty badly. On the other hand his mother is mentally ill so she can't really take care of herself or get a job. She really didnt start to go downhill until later on during the show. She had a job for a while, but i think she suffered a nervous breakdown or something. Ive seen this many times before Dan is jus trying to place blame on his father for not helping his mother

  • She had a travel agency and was dating a man she brought to Thanksgiving a few season ago.

So . . . he was paying her alimony even though she'd been running a business for a few years? That's ridiculous. And she didn't save her money? Didn't get a health care program? Didn't plan for her future? Why is that her ex husband's problem?

She's an adult. Unmarried adults take care of themselves, or their grown children do.

If she had married that other guy, she'd be his problem. That's unfair.

  • dan feels that his mom's problems r his dad's fault & he owes her

  • @thejokersharleyquinn i think its a Writer's Continuation problem

  • I just love that scene it was so funny!!! I also felt so sorry for Dan in this episode the ending makes me cry really hard seeing Dan like that...

  • Yeah, that made me sad too! Poor Dan!

  • Yeah, it also showed John Goodman's acting talent...

  • "Can't you imagine how scary this is to him? Where the big fuzzy thing is yelling at the milk machine." OMG, LMAO!!
