Richard Burton was a great stage presence - accountable to his physical body, good liooks, voice, Welsh accent & resonant voice. You can't judge him on the basis of this video. You had to be there - experiencing the performance, theater, etc.
@MrRobertJameson because he was Welsh & a good friend of Dylan Thomas who too was Welsh. I am Filipino & my understanding of the phrase "British accent" is the accent of one who is Welsh or Irish or Scottish. Joyce was Irish & so is Peter O'Toole while Sean Connery is Scottish. I've not heard Joyce's recordings (I understand there are some) but you bet I listened w/ fascination to O'Toole & Burton et al in their movies.
@1handclapper Burton had to lose his Welsh accent very early because in those days actors in the West End were expected to talk like Laurence Olivier.
@MrRobertJameson I see. So when he read "Fern Hill" & other poems by Dylan Thomas even then he adopted the English accent? One would think he deliberately reverted to his Welsh accent in homage to Dylan.
@1handclapper The only times he tried to change his voice were for "Villain" (as a Cockney) and "The Klansman" (as an American), both with disasterous results.
Does the ghost say 'quicksilver'? Is he suffering 'Ironman syndrome'? Is he really dead? Is the solilaqoy 'to be or not to be' about what to do afterwards? philipnute com
Whoever said that Richard is the worst actor ever is the greatest FUCKWIT on the entire planet go away and lose yourself up anything that would have the indecency to accommodate such a peasant slave. Or take hold of your little dick and beat it until there's nothing left you pathetic fool nothing low life scum...... warm regards Christian
