This movie was a complete failure. How could it possibly even touch the quality in which Jean M. Auel wrote her books? I really do hope that they remake the series, as the movies might stand a chance with the new technology.
I've read the third book of The Earth's Children, The Mammoth Hunter and I'm curious to read another 5 of them. Unfortunately I couldn't find them in Indonesia's book store. I love the book and I've watched the movie shown in the TV about 17 years ago, I like the way Jean Auel describe the prehistoric era.
I am re-reading these books now after having read them years ago when first published. I know the movie was not liked by many but I thought Daryll Hannah did a very sensitive job of portraying Ayla. Yes, the sexy stuff is there so younger readers (under 18) beware - this is not Harry Potter! I remember enjoying the story for all of the descriptions of pre-historic human survival - the foods, plants used for medicines, hunting, tool-making, the different people Ayla meets - it's a great story!
I loved the books & have started re-reading them to refresh myself before the new book comes out. Hmmm... let's see... Jondalar and Ayla having sex... flip, flip, flip... Jondalar & Ayla still having sex... flip, flip, flip... still more hot, steamy Jondalar/Ayla sex... flip, flip, flip... Damnit! Get a room you two!
Ok, seriously, the books were awesome overall. The movie... was not without its charms.
Trivia: freeze frame at about 1:28. That's a young, pre-baywatch, Nicole Eggert.
I iwsh the movie wasn't such a piece of shit. I mean, maybe it would've been good if I hadn't read the book first. But it was like they chewed up the book spit it out and then chewed on it again before slapping it on my screen.
@TheOneThatYouLoathe That is always happen with good books made into film. I think it's because when we read, the writer words and our imagination make it even better.
@MsKonejo, don't think it was in the cinemas, it's a movie from 1986, you can watch it on youtube, just search clan of the cave bear 1986, 10 parts long :)
I`m reading the 4th book now (for the third timexD ) and I have a question:
In the "thanks" part at the beginning of the book Jean says that there are 2 more books to come, but I just can`t find the last book, only the 5th one..
Is she still whriting the 6th book or something? (don`t know if she`s dead or alive) Someone please answear me<3 (And exuse my english, I`m not so good in english whriting..
@LilianaCroush I was thiniking the same thing as you!! I searched thought the internet and I found that she is alive and still writing the last book! She says that the information she has is too mush and she is trying to put everything in the next book!! That's why it's taking so long!!
The 6th and final book of the series will be released March 29th 2011. It will be called 'The Land of the Painted Caves'. I will be ordering mine as soon as I can. X
@chickadee85smile I will be ordering mine as soon as possible too, but since I have readed the other 5 books in norwegian it would be best for me to wait til it`s been translated, and that would take a while... So don`t spoil it for me^^
the Stone shelters was the only novel that I ever bought for my self, new in Hardback as soon as it came out. Just amazing series. My favourite living author. Do you know she had a book translated into English at her own expense, just so she could use some of the iddeas in her book. Better than Tolkein.
por que demonios ponen esa estupida musica???? Dejen el sonido original, no sean pendejos!!! No se molesten en evniarme comentarios, nunca los leo!!!! jajajja
Ayla will stay in your memory for the rest of your life.
To others, the movie was a flop because it just doesn't do justice to the book. There are many vital scenes and concepts that just aren't in the movie. It destroys the overall story.
I'm still reading the first book lol.Right now, the part im at, Broud seems like a good guy! I cant believe he goes all power mad. Anyway, love the book, im only 12 and it's like, the best book i ever read!
This book series was absolutely amazing, I loved it, I loved the take on Cro-magnon and Neanderthal culture. The movie was good, just unfortuntely misunderstood. :(
If I get into more filmmaking and directing when I get older I would love to plan a re-do of the entire series, thats if I can get filmaking rights.
Or someone else could do it...maybe Peter Jackson.
I just finished reading the book & loved it soooo much! Yours is the first video I found with clips from the movie, thank you, i LOVED IT! AWESOME! Thank you Jean Auel for your great works! Oh and I thought the neanderthals would be uglier than the movie had them, their barrel-chests were smaller in than the book, and Durc was so cute! I am starting book 2! I hope Broud is run out or the clan splits & Brun gets to rule again! Then Brun can make Durc leader if he'd do that!
I really enjoyed this video. I have not seen this movie since I was a child, and I enjoyed your artistic scope on this story. Also, I think that the subtitles were appropriate, for those who may not be familiar with the story line. Thanks for an awesome video!
I'm reading it again and Ayla's kind of a brat too, you know. Broud is very unreasonable, yes, but if you really read what Ayla's thinking, she's really disobedient and stubborn. If I was there I'd smack her more than once.
She was only disobedient when she was young, though. She became much more obedient as she grew older, but Broud was still abusive and horrible. Most eight year olds are a bit bratty. :P
Maybe it's just because the first time I read the book, I didn't have a six year old stepbrother... but now that I've aquired one and I'm reading the book again. I may just be sick of children talking back and not doing as they're told ;)
@FinlayO i think she was merely human, rather than neanderthal. she innately & instinctively thought & behaved differently. broud was an @rse. would have been better for the clan had he been killed on the mammoth hunt.
@TheMozymo cheers ears :) hark at me getting all worked up over a book. but then, i'm one of those nerdy bookworm types for whom authors are AT LEAST as big as rock stars lol. & earth's children is a damn good story (so far. i'm 3/4 through TVOTH)
well i thought she took back the film rights thats why they couldnt make the next ones but i was more wondering about if she was ever gonna give them to someone
Hey Imlover 14, please tell us the name of the movie, so that we can buy it. I have read all the 5 books , they are simply fantastic and i would love to see how is the movie!!!!! THANKS FOR POSTING. I never knew that the 1st book has also become a movie.
i bought a copy i ordered from HMV and it cost about $20 australian dollars, but i'm sure you could order one from wherever you are for a similar price
Great video. That's ok about the subtitles. I like them. I made a video like this. I named it THE SPIRIT OF AYLA. I read that you have a mac and are using iMovie. In iMovie there is a cropping tool. To get rid of any subtitles or things like that I use the cropping tool and that will eliminate whatI want to eliminate in the picture. I think you made a great video. five stars

Been looking for a copy of the video for year's
This is an awesome story so far. I've got about a chapter or so left with the second book. I actually bought all five books because my wife said that I'd love them. She was right and I'm glad that I did.
Yeah the first couple are good then it turns into Ayla ... invents the wheel ... Ayla ... invents wine etc. Also the book which is second to the end is like porn ... (every few pages they stop and have sex)

As one whom "The Clan of the Cave Bear" has recently reached out and grabbed, I found this very powerful. Very few episodes in books have moved me to tears: Ayla's being cursed with death did just that.
Random, but I was named after her :)
