  • im from Florida too!! cute smash book

  • KALIMBA

  • Love the idea! But how did you put in the rings for the binder? Is it a punch?

  • @Lucyrose07 I used a binding machine designed for scrapbooking called the Bind-It-All. It is manufactured by a company called Zutter & it both punches the holes and sets the wires. I like it a lot!

  • LOve it! I'm gonna try it out!

  • cool idea i'm gonna try it one day thanks a lot :) !

  • -3 it! :)

  • Like all of your other ideas, I simply LOVE this. I have ordered the K & Co Smash stuff as a sort of jumping off place, but I have stuff like this from all my trips. This makes me want SO BAD to get a bind-it-all ... Thanks so much for sharing your awesome ideas!!!

  • Beautiful! Love the idea. Now I am going to have to go through all of my memento boxes! One quick question, I see that the book is all ready bound but has room for more travels in the back, do you open the binding each time to place items in like books, pamphlets, menus, etc? I love my BIA, but find it hard to re-open & close the binding over & over again. Thanks so much for sharing! Blessings, JJ

  • @JJsJoyfulCreations No, I don't ever open the binding once I make the book. I have a way of adding the papers and photos to the binding without opening the coils by snipping the edge of the paper so I can sort of "snap in" the papers. It's hard to describe, but you can see how I do it in my "Welcome Home" album at 2 minutes and 45 seconds into the video. There's a link to the "Welcome Home" video in this video's description. I hope that helps!

  • @desdichaedo Understand completely. I actually have a punch from Stampin Up! that punches the holes that snap in. Just hoping maybe you had a way to open the book that I had not seen. Thanks again for sharing! Look forward to the next video! Blessings, JJ :0)

  • i love this idea... i keep everything and it doesn't seem possible/practical to put it all with a scrapbook page, especially since i stopped doing 12x12 layouts. but really with the brochures and special booklets, it's a great idea. i love how it's totally random too. oh, i want to do this. how wide are your binding rings? great way to use that paper too. i really love that bread bag with the fish! thanks for the idea! will check it out. :)

  • @tshernjpan I love the randomness of it & all the different kinds of textures and items in the book. I always collect memorabilia with the intention of it making its way onto a scrapbook page, but it never seems to happen ~ this was a good way to have it all out in an easy to look through format. It's SO FUN to look through the book because of how random it is, too, I think. I used the 1.25" o-wires for my BIA on this book ~ the biggest Zutter makes for the BIA.

  • @desdichaedo thanks so much, Kathryn! (^_^)v

  • you are amazing at what you do! I watched your class on this book on ustream and decided to make my own and i have to say is so pretty i call it My Love me book. i add it some photo mats that i made in between pages....so cool! cant wait for your next tutorial :)

  • @TheAmri1 I'm so glad you had fun making your own version of this. I'm just thrilled that you love it & it turned out pretty. Have a great time filling it up with wonderful memories! :D

  • Wow! I didn't know that! I sure hope you get to keep him home for good now! I think the majority of people want our guys home for good with their families!

  • Really neat! You went to Afghanastan???? Wow! World traveler!!

  • @kathydid47 No, I haven't been to Afghanistan. That's my husband's return ticket home from his deployment. :D

  • I am thinking abou t making this for our summer trip!!!

  • This is great! I have a book that i've kept like this.. I call it my souvenir book! :) Great job!! TFS!!

    Taff

  • Oh my gosh! How can I ever thank you enough.... I have been hoarding ALL kinds of memorabilia for the past 10 years, since my husband and I married and it has turned into a kind of joke to him, my saving everything for "the scrapbook". Since I am new to actually scrapbooking and many of the things I have saved are not suitable for that, this is the PERFECT project!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!

    Hugs,

    Janet

  • Love it!

I've scheduled a post sharing this video next Monday, June 6th 2011, in my blog.

    TFS!

  • OMGosh you have just given me the inspiration ive been looking for!, for such a long long time!. So long i have wanted to create travel journals/minis but always it feels like such a huge effort. But you have made it look so simple and i totally get it now

  • Of course you know you hold a special place in my scrap heart. I have two questions. I don't have a cinch or bind it all and I'm feeling a bit lazy, and I don't wanna do the research. Which one is a better buy? Also I don't have any paper for journaling should I get some stamps or is there a paper pack that you suggest? Talk to you soon.

  • @ScrapNLearn I have the pink BIA. I love it & I use it a lot! The BIA is cheaper, smaller and has square holes. The Cinch is bigger, more expensive, easier to use and has round holes. They both work great, so it's really all about personal preference. There is a link in this video description for a site where you can print your own lined paper. For these books, I just print my own on the backs of any single-sided papers that are going in the album.

  • I love it, I'm such a hoarder of any little bits of memorabilia that I can get my hands on and at the minute it's just randomly sitting in drawers and boxes. This is such a great idea to get everything in one place and in a format that I can actually see it all.

  • this is SUCH an awesome idea!!!!!! Hubby and I went to Disney World last year and I have everything still stored in a Disney Shopping bag!!! Can't wait to start the album now!!!!! Great inspiration!!!! hugs

  • Thanks for sharing all the additional links. I'm really blown away by how much stuff you can get in the album. Going forward, since it's already bound now, you wouldn't be able to add anything unless it adhered to the paper itself, correct? Did you use the Cinch to bind it? Could you tell me the size of the rings you used? Thanks so much I'm back to look at the links you shared. Patti

  • @nwlady1949 You can use either the BIA or Cinch ~ whichever you have. I use the 1.25" in diameter o-wires ~ the biggest ones Zutter makes. The way I get the pages in the binding after it is all bound together is by punching holes with the BIA in the brochure & then making a slit from the edge to the hole. Then I can push the item into the binding. You can watch me do it in my Welcome Home album video where I show how I add a photo to an already bound book. Hope that helps! :D

  • I love this idea. My husband and I went to New Orleans for our anniversary last year and I have been hanging on to a lot of stuff to make a scrapbook. Plus I have a lot of stuff from when we went to Virginia on or honeymoon. This would be so neat to put everything in. Can't wait for your class. :)

  • Love it! I'm looking forward to making this.

  • Love your project!! TFS!!

  • This is just what I need to put all those loose things I hate to throw out but are falling all over the place. I def will be there on Thurs to participate. See you then.

  • So fun: I was just planning to do one for me, and for two friends of mine! I'm gonna try to follow your ustream show...

    TFS

    XOXO

  • Love it! Thanks so MUCH for sharing!

  • Kathryn this looks like a amazing IDEA thank you so much. I sadly have to work for the first show thurs and i hope to make it home before the second one is over this time. I will be making one of these..I have sooooo much stuff from diff trips omg i cant wait girl..thanks again

  • Wow, I wish I had saved up all the things accumulated on previous trips! Love this!

  • Neataroo. It's so junquie which I love.

  • What a great idea! This looks like a fun and practical book... TFS

    ~Hope

  • love this!

    (HUGS) Diana xx

  • I am loving this project. I have all of those things in a cigar box. It would be great to get it all out & put it into one place. I'm all ready for thursdays class. I hope nothing prevents me from coming. It's weird always watching your classes after the fact. JIL

  • @stampyra Ha ha, yeah, because I am talking to myself!? I hate to watch one of my UStream videos {like if I am looking for info for someone, or trying to remember how I did something} I feel like I am watching a crazy person! LOL! Anyways, I hope you can make it & get all those awesome goodies out of the box & into a book!

  • Love your projects and this one is going to be awesome. I don't have a bind it all so I use composition not books to alter and use....can you still make one without a bind it all...probably not tho? Another question...how do you get the pages in the binding after it's made up....I mean if this is an ongoing book do you take the binding apart and keep adding items? If I don't make the live shows I'll be watching the recordings. You have a very creative mind and I love your inspirations. Hugs Noel

  • @MimziesWimzs You don't need a BIA. You can use binder rings from the office supply store instead, or have the book bound for you at Staples or FedEx Office. They way I get the pages in the binding after it is all together is by punching holes with the BIA in the brochure. Then I make a slit from the edge to the hole ~ that way I can push the item into the binding. You can watch me do it in my Welcome Home album video where I show how I add a photo to an already bound book. Hope that helps! :D

  • @desdichaedo Thanks K...that helps a lot. I did remember that I have one of the first binding systems offered to the craft world back in the early 90's but it can't punch through chipboard unless it's very light weight...but I can use it for my pages and just pick up some binding coils....I'll make it work. Can't wait to watch you create....thanks noel

  • Great idea. Similar to those Smash books everyone's raving about.

  • @stampersdreams Yes, this is a great way to get the same look from your own stash! Then you can save your money for their accessories if you want. :D

  • @scrappingtodo Yep! Same basic idea ~ a notebook to hold all your ephemera and memorabilia! :D This way you can make your own notebook and save your scrappy dollars for their cute little accessories.

  • @Christina10302 I keep all those things, too, thinking I will put them in my layouts/albums somehow, but it never seems to work! Often they are too big, or I have too many photos to scrap. I got tired of them all sitting unloved & unseen in a plastic bin, so I just went around the house, gathered them all up & started putting them in these books. It's so much more fun this way!

  • This will work wonderfully for me!! I will be able to gather those shoe boxes, sort and put together a book.

    Thanks for sharing Angela

  • @rqh8urkak Yes, this is a GREAT way to consolidate all the shoe boxes into one cool project & it's a lot more accessible to look through than a shoe box. I was really happy when I finally got all my tickets and whatnot out of the bins and into books. :D Glad this is going to work for you & I hope you have fun playing with the book!

  • Perfect timing for me on this journal. I have started cutting to be prepared for Thursday!! Your upcoming projects will be alot of Fun!! I'm watching ;o)

    Karen

  • @wowweememe Thank you, Karen! I am really excited about my summer projects this year. Lots of fun stuff coming, I agree! We're going to have a blast the next few weeks. Glad you've got all your paper ready & you'll be playing along with us! :D

  • Excellent idea! I really need to do on of these. TFS! ~Julie

  • @luvs2stampnscrap You're so welcome! You should totally do one of these ~ they're so fun to look through when they're all full of stuff!

  • Wow I love your book I am excited to see your Ustream show on this!!

I have so many of these kinds of memorabilia and just collect them now I will be able to put them in a fun book! I have train tickets to Orlando when I moved over there too!!! I love it!

Great way to the paper you don't necessarily love what an awesome idea!!

    {{{NJ Hugs}}}

  • @serenityinhim Gotta love the Amtrack AutoTrain ~ the way all us east coasters move to Florida! :D Hee hee! Yep, you're right ~ it's a great way to clear out your stash, make room for some new supplies & not to feel guilty about what you purged because it's still getting used for something awesome!

  • Beautiful paper on the cover--so vibrant! Cannot wait to do one. Going to keep track of places we pass going to visit family. It will hold memories.

  • @iluvtojournal That paper on the cover is from the Pink Paislee "Office Lingo" collection. It's an old one, so I don't how readily it will be available anymore, but you could make something similar by stamping a pattern in hot pink ink on a ledger paper. I think that whatever you make it with, it will hold wonderful memories of your family road trip! :D

  • Oh Kathryn!!! What a wonderful memory album!! I will be watching and making this with you! Fantastic idea with summer here! Thanks much!!

  • @ZScraper Yes, this is perfect to have ready for the summer months. It's a great place to put all the amusement park maps, concert tickets, brochures, etc. that we collect when the weather is warm. Especially since we all seem to have less time to scrap in the summer, this is a great way to keep on top of where we've been and what we've been doing. :D Glad you'll be joining us!

  • Hey Kathryn too funny I am uploading a video telling people about your Ustream class on thursday! lol I am so excited about doing it since I had soooo much fun doing my travel one a few months ago, this one will be life inspired! So I will add this link in the description box of my video(already have your blog link). Thanks for doing this class! See you thursday!

    ~Kay

  • @kayluvs2scrap Awesome, Kay! Great minds think alike. ;D Thanks for the plug & I'm so glad you're going to be playing along with this one ~ we're going to have so much fun! I love that this one you're doing it going to be life inspired ~ can't wait to see what you come up with!

  • I can't wait!! I've already got my papers cut down and printed all kinds of cool stuff from that site you linked for grids and notebook lines etc. I even punched the holes in my papers, got my file folders and shipping tags and stamps ready. I am so ready to start this, super excited ! LOL I'm going to rush home and watch the recording. Woot woot! :)) Thank you so much for sharing this idea

  • @StephanieD2 You sound just like me! I have everything cut, punched & sitting ready to go and I can't wait to get started. Is it Thursday yet!? :D LOL!

  • Awesome idea! I have brochures, ticket stubs etc from our travel and I never get around to organizing them. Thanks you for this great idea and can't wait for the class. Ria

  • @1Ducks2007 I am so excited for the class, too ~ it's going to be a blast! My husband and I had a great time going through this book last night when I got it out to do the video. They're so fun and interactive with all the memorabilia that they're just a stitch to look through. Really fun way to walk down memory lane.

  • Great tip!

  • love love love your work tons of fun stuff, tfs
