what can you expect from a sleeping (unconscious) people. i have to give to the slave masters from yesteryear, they did an awesome job with making a people not only forget who they were, but yet make them hate who they are today.
I couldn't have said it better myself!! Our black brothers and sisters usually make nasty comments about our natural hair beacause when they look at us they see themselves and thats just a fact that they won't accept. Love your hair. Love your skin. We were made in the image and likeness of our King!!
18+ yrs locking and what a celebration it is!!. I will never return to chem straightener's to conform to anyone standards. Over 36" long & I've maintained my hair from day one.
One day I walked into a bank and more than 1/2 of the staff "froze" in place as if I said, this is a hold up. I couldn't believe these black women was that focus on MY HAIR! I wanted to say, it's real hair on my head, not a hold up ladies. I don't have a gun so get back to work. :-)
ONE OF MY WORST EXPERIENCES AS A NATURAL BLACK WOMAN BEFORE I STARTED MY LOCKS WAS WHEN OLDER BLACK WOMEN THOUGHT THAT I LOOKED DISGUSTING AND THOUGHT I NEEDED TO COMB MY HAIR. MY REPLY TO THEM WAS IF YOU WERE STILL IN AFRICA YOU WOULD LOOK JUST AS BEAUTIFUL AS ME EVENTUALLY IT WAS ACCEPTED ONCE IT BEGAN TO GROW RAPIDLY AND HEALTHY
LOVE IT,LOVE IT,LOVE IT..I became natural 8yrs ago an I really feel every word you speak, even the part refering to the bishops comment.Try working for the Goverment
an being the only sister in the room,an she wears locs,I love it :)
i feel sorry for the weak and confused negroes who see a black person in our natural state and start to pass judgement when in reality if any1 should be passing down judgement it should be me but i wont i hear blk people specialy bw sayin things like i cant wear my hair nappy cuz is unacceptable such stupidity
its 2010 we shouldnt go natural we should be born live and die natural wake up people
Perhaps you have a point, that I'm coming from an idealistic, even esoteric point of view. I am also glad to have had the opportunity to reason with you. Thanks for sharing and be well!
Yet you still shave your face... not all natural brother. No judgment just an observation. But I feel where you're at. I too wanted people to see that an all natural, non modifying person that resembles a homeless man can be healthy, clean, athletic, spiritual, intelligent. The stereotype of the natural look is either that you're a cannabis smoking passivist or that you are dirty and lazy. I took after the great example of Bob Marley and other all natural men who were healthy, active examples
Are you truly trying to say that being natural means you can't groom? So, perhaps he shouldn't bathe or wear deodorant either if he wants to go "natural"?
I think he looks lovely. It's a sad comment on our society that we cannot just "be" ourselves without such stereotypes.
That's right, I am saying if you ALTER your natural build or growth you are no longer allowing yourself to be "natural". That is a fact, not opinion. Who or what causes hair to grow?? Right. So, if you interfere with with what your Creator has set into motion (hair) than you are no longer all "natural". There nothing unnatural about cleanliness. There is if you use chemicals to do it, but keeping clean is a natural function of warm blooded creatures. I was just making an observation, no judgment
Okay. In your strict and extreme version of "natural", are you allowed to cut your nails? It can even be argued that in your "observation" of what natural means using anything to cleanse the body would be altering the natural function of the chemistry that your "Creator has set in motion". Just my observation...
Yes, even nails must grow. Unless they would get in the way of basic needs such as eating. Look, I don't think it's everyone's lot in life to live that way, I am just saying be thoughtful of your words and their meaning, especially when speaking of "natural" because that is regarding sacredness and a fullness, completeness. And I do realize that I am being very literal, but that is how I think. "Natural" or not, I feel if anyone is doing good for others they are just as they should be. Right?
I would have to disagree with your "definition" of natural. What you have described is more of an ideaology than a "literal" definition. It's cool. Everyone has their way of looking at the world and interpreting it. But it's pointless for us to continue this back and forth. Thanks for the opportunity to observe different points of view, though.
God bless you sir! This video is sooo true. And it's crazy that it took a rapper to wear locks in the entertainment industry in order for black people my age(I'm 19) to accept locks. When I first got my locks when I was 11 years old I was a joke to most people who saw me.
Well...when you have twisted hair...that is exactly what it is..twisted! Locks grow naturally. They don't look like twisted rope. White people are more accepting of twisted hair than they are of the real untwisted, tree roots given by Yah. Yah did not give us twisted hair...he gave us naturally locked hair. African Americans have tried to take locked hair and make it acceptable to the white man by twisting it. Coming from Jamaica I know locks are not twisted ropes hair.
I have twisted hair and it's so old that it no longer looks twisted at all. I am currently letting it matt together at the roots right now though. I got my locks when I was 11 so I had no Idea at the time that they could just grow automatically. That's pretty cool. If I had known that before I would've did it that way. I wasn't thinking about white people when I got it twisted though. And I'm sure others aren't thinking about white people when they get their hair twisted for locks either.
great vid brotha...5 stars! i've visited the sisterlocks site many times when i was thinking about getting them installed last year. and there are two beautiful ebony mothers on there...one of which i'm guessing is yours!

Really?
