Not even half as good as athlete what ever division of nasa who made this one has nothing on JPL.

BTW athlete is like a tachicoma so it's on par with the Japanese robots.

they are not going to be used for the same purpose. Think of the ATHLETE as your Lunar RV, and the CHARIOT as your Jeep. The ATHLETE will carry around your Habitat, Lab, or other heavy things to different parts of the moon. The CHARIOT will be for day excursions like a Jeep on vacation

If am not mistaken, the differentials are actual modified 350z differentials. This is the plan for the new lunar rover and is made to be big so it can carry men and cargo as compared to the last rover that was pointless and had no real function. Believe me this is not all NASA's got.

This one is from exploration systems and well robots are not really their thing they really should just let JPL do this since they actually know what they are doing.

yeah i wanna see one of those little stupid robots that look around at people and dance to pre programmed songs go to the moon and carry 6000Kgs 100km. This is not really a robot, it is remote controlled but can also be controlled from a dashboard on the rover.

Japan does have a probe bigger then anyone else's orbiting the moon right now I wouldn't be surprised at all if they have large robots on the moon by 2020.

The difference is they'd use the robots properly by allowing them to tend cargo sent ahead of time unmanned.

Thats what NASA is missing here they could land this years before the first crews and get some work done before the first people return.

Instead of a guy in front stick robonaut there or dextre plus a small crane.
