A replica of Titanic can never be rebuilt because modern fire code on current cruise ships forbids the use of that much wood in conscruction / decorative purposes. If its your own private 10 story 882 1/2 foot ship then im sure you could get away with it, but unfortunatly this is current fire code conscruction law.

No Titanic replica is being built, but a cruise ship is sailing a memorial cruise from Southampton to New York in honor of the Titanic for 2012.

Although I would love to see a new Titanic the cost for a new Titanic makes it uneconomical to rebuild the Titanic. Also with modern safety laws at sea you can't have many of the things Titanic had. A new Titanic would look nothing like the Titanic that sailed the seas 100 years ago. Plus rivets are completely outdated and is also against international sea laws. You would have to seam the hull together. Face it the only thing that would be the same is the name Titanic 2.

There is no sea law against rivet plate construction.

Whilst the cost of building a replica would be substantial, it is easily doable.

The John Oxley is a fully riveted ship as are many others.

The might be some underwriting issues depending on commercial application.

There is actually. Every since the Hans Hedtoft sank due to rivet construction it has been against the rules to build ships with riveted hulls. Riveted hulls can't hold up to icebergs as well as a seamed hull can and ever since then it has been illegal.

In February, 2011, Harland and Wolff won the contract to restore the White Star Nomadic. She is fully riveted as is the John Oxley. I've sailed on riveted ships, even *wooden* hull and straked ships like the New Endeavor still sail the world. The are hundreds of them.

You are ignorant of how maritime law and ship registration works throughout in different countries the world.

Oh yeah you would have to face insurance companies that would probably not want to insure a Titanic replica. Also you would face tons of criticism from descendants and ship captains that respect the name and would not want to see it used again, and you would probably see a lot of people considering it to be disrespectful to name a ship Titanic 2 and sailing it around the sea for fun while people died on the original Titanic.

Nope it's the Titanic on launch day. When ships are built at shipyards their hull starts first, and all the extra details come in later. It is the Titanic, but she hasn't been fitted out yet.

H&W did this after titanic was launched, and there was not a ship on order tha could be build on the big slipway. But a view months later Holland America Line (part of the IMM to) placed a order fore the 35.000 grt Statendam. A ship based on the Olympic class design.

Some passengers believed that seven words sealed the fate of the ship and everyone on board. There's that and the arrogance of not having enough boats. this video has some inaccuracies. Titanic was launched before her First Class Promenade deck was enclosed. in other words the level under the boat deck should still be open where there are small windows. also, the wheel house was not yet built and nor were any of the structures on the boat deck. that would all be built later during her fitting out at the docks. and in the first video, not ALL of the hull plating was held together with hammered rivets. they had a large riveting machine.

it is a really cool video. the forecastle wasn't enclosed when the titanic was launched. Even in the photo, that are referenced, the deck is not enclosed after launch. Britannic is the only ship of the three sisters, that the deck was enclosed prior to launch.

Why? Titanic was well built and passed her sea trials easily. She and her sistership Olympic (Titanic was NOT a one of a kind supership) exceeded safety standards in terms of watertight subdivision back then and today. They just could not envision the ship sideswipping an iceberg. That was an incredibly unlikely event. You are using "hindsight bias" in your analysis.

At one point I saw a small "1" in the left top cornor so it has been on television. Is it available on DVD and what is the tiltle...or did you make this yourself ?

It was actually three ships that were built. First the RMS Olympic, second the RMS Titanic, and Finally the Britannic. The RMS Lusitania was built elsewhere by another company and was owned by another company which is Cunard. The Olympic class sisters were owned by The White Star Line and was built by Harland and Wolf.
