Its a shame that R5 will probably blow up with 1000 miles. The Fezza will go on for a LOT longer. Is it REALLY worth bothering tuning the nuts off an R5 and spending all that money?
GT Turbo all day. The funniest thing back in the day was stupid fan boys of Fiesta's, Uno's, Pugs, GTI and NOVAS - LOL actually thinking they could bang with a properly SORTED R5GT. Hilarious. Novas actually resorted to 2.0Lengine transplants FFS !! !! !! !! !! kina missing the point !
@sugarsaint You show the exact sentiments of a man who doesnt have a clue what hes on about. I'm not just saying this as a man who likes fords but the fiesta RS turbo had a slitely slower 0-60 time as standard but a higher top end, not forgetting it had EFi management and one of the most tunable engines in a hot hatch of the time. I'm also a fan of the R5 GT turbo and i know the tunability of their engines is also good, but seeing as the block is slitely smaller than the fords= more turbo lag!
@cosworthben88 I know exactly what i'm talking about, nobody really gives a toss for turbo Fiesta (see Evo magazine greatest Hot hatch of all time) where the R5 came 3rd to it's Clio williams stable mate and Pug 1.9. the tunability of the little 1.4 is second to none, top ends are nothing to talk about standard phase 1 will do 126 and take any model to a genuinely sorted 160bhp or more to see 135 - 140mph (from a 50 year old 1.4) 11 second 1/4 miles times are common as muck for sorted cars too.
@cosworthben88 further more not much of that aged washed up like a R5 either, body kits were built for all sorts and as decent as the fiesta looked stoke, or as solid as the esscort was none could transform like a R5 with a owner who had a keen eye for detail, from being lowered with larger wheels to full on dimma kits the R5 was without a doubt, the most roundly sorted little motor of it's generation with regards to possible modifications.
@sugarsaint Also the fiesta was more interchangable amongst other fords with bigger engine etc, put a 2.1zvh in there and you'll outrun most GT turbos you'll come across aswell as not break down half as much.

I've seen a 88 Lada with a Nos sucking chevvy V8 plumbed in, fast as fooook, but in the end - who gives a shit? ditto your engine transplants, that's not real modding, we can be hear all night talking engine swaps, indeed one of the best chop jobs ever seen in the UK was a widebody R5GT running full 4x4 cosworth running gear and 300bhp engine. You may no the one it wa in Max Power way back.
