  • The texture you put into your music is absolutely amazing, I guess why I love it so much though is it reminds me of my own style of playing which is very very similar. Keep doing what your doing man, your great at it

  • oui, il est quebecois.

  • This is sort of feel-good music that never gets TOO sweet. If only Erik was a film maker as well I'd might actually pay to go to the cinema. Do prefer this live over the studio version, if only the audience knew how and when not to clap :P

  • For a start he smiles when they start clapping so he enjoyed it Nuff said . Got his album n love it. This proly ma fav song. Thumbs up.

  • 0:23 i know i am the best

  • I hate when people clap along with songs

  • Have you ever worked with a vocalist before?

  • How much was that Carbon guitar? And im assuming it weighs about 2 pounds?

  • What is te tunning for this beautiful song?

  • @DimebagRazorback123

    Fusions: AADF#AA

  • @erikmongrain omg tuned down to A?

  • Search on youtube for Rain Sounds..

Play them in the background.. it sounds so peaceful :)

  • I would like one of those guitars for xmas, hint hint nudge nudge

  • its a carbon fiber guitar, brand: rainsong JM1000. It weighs zero and is strong like hell. Played on it yesterday, its not very soulful if you dont use an amp, but if you do plugg it in, it sounds marvelous ;)

  • I hope that guitar was 18...

  • I need a rainsong <3 but they cost just about if not more then my gibson 61 sg RI -_- lol

  • Thank you, sir for sharing your soul with us.

  • Carbon fiber guitar?

  • @mr4y yup, i think so

  • @triviumfr3ak

yeah but there are only 4 people who are clapping.

It would be better if the whole crowed would clapp.

  • wow...you're amazing..

  • Love this song erik!

  • thats such a beautuful rainsong

  • You can tell he has spirit from the smile on his face

  • Watching this guy play both online and live brought me to write my own songs in this style, and even to cover this one, let me know what you think about it!

  • YEA!

  • Modern day Classical playing!.... the best would be proud!

  • Damn, I have watched all your videoes, and they are all perfect! I just want to learn them all! :-D You inspirate me so much!

  • not gonna lie... it's pretty sweet that i can play harmonica with this (and pretty well, i might add).

  • One of the most melodic pieces out there man.......this guy is great

  • Genius.. I'm not gay, but *sniff* I LOVE YOU ERIK!!

  • I was tapping my foot along for the whole song. All I have to say is: Dang, that was awesome.

  • what type of guitar is that

  • @gabegleason1993 2003 rainsong it looks like.

  • I think he misses a beat at 1:03 ;D lol still badass though!

  • Have a listen at my cover of this great song and lemme know what you think about it!

    Cheers

    Alex

  • I find learning other peoples songs a chore!! I cant stand it. I love listening to the songs but would love to use them as inspiration instead. I prefer writing my own stuff but that is limiting my chops as I am writing stuff in my skill level. Will strict guitar exercises help bring my chops up to speed?

  • CandyRat should see this guy!!! As good if not better than McKee! Great job!

  • @sixStringstranger Agree, he should join CandyRat! But no, i don't think he's better than Mckee, but hey,.. he is sick!

  • Hey, I work for a college radio station, would you be interested in doing a small interview? I run an alternative and classic rock show where we like to highlight real musicianship.

  • does anyone know the proper song title for this song? i want to learn it badly and donwload it. any help would be great thanks

  • @jammin2nolimitt Fusions

  • @jammin2nolimitt: It's called Fusions, and he has the tab up for free on his website. It's harder than it looks!

  • love it when he smiles...he can't even believe he's playing such beauty

  • 0:34 why are they clapping ?

    they destroyed the atmopshere

  • @Scholzii94 what ? thats the best feeling ever (atleast i think so), when you drag your audience into your vibration. when you feel it all comes together, and others are joining in, man the good feeling you get then :)

    shiney song btw Erik :)

  • @slywinkl

    I don't realy like it.

whatever, it's an amazing song :)

  • @Scholzii94 so true

  • @Scholzii94 That's such a stupid thing to say. He was fucking loving it.

  • @Scholzii94 they're just clapping to his guitar beat...i mean i find myself moving to the same beat as the one they're clapping imo they just add to the atmosphere lol

  • @Scholzii94

can you here the percussion? can't believe someone would ask that kind of question when there's a percussive guitarists playing, maybe it's just me...lol

  • @Scholzii94 twat

  • @Scholzii94 twat

  • @Scholzii94 They're adding percussion.

  • @Scholzii94 Creating a whole new one i think.

  • @Scholzii94 God forbid there should be audience interaction during a live performance

  • @RayZavesky you must not be a musician huh?

  • @Scholzii94 i dont get it :/

  • @Scholzii94 I disagree, I think it added to the atmosphere. The song has an upbeat, festive vibe to me and the audience clapping to the beat only adds to that.

  • @Scholzii94 at least they're staying in time.

  • anyone know the tuning?

  • this guy really knows his thing, massive props to your style

  • I love part 1:33-1:54 with the Alt. Tuning/ pickups and effects it almost has an Asian sound to it love it!!!!

  • The very first part of the song is frickin amazing!

  • stop clapping along people... listen...

  • @odracirozolev They don't need to stop clapping because when the crowd is interacting with you while playing live, it is the ultimate feeling!

  • i want your guitar<3!!! wich designer?

  • @hjalle10 Composite Acoustic. Their guitars are made entirely out of graphite and include a microphone inside the guitar in addition to a piezo pick-up. It's a combination of these two (which you can blend via the onboard controls) that give it such a rich sound.

  • @hjalle10 It is a Rain Song guitar and it is carbon fiber. Very expensive, but you get what you pay for!

  • @5stringdriver nicenice, gonna get along with a Furch G23-C :)

  • thanks for the information nonetheless, its an "The Legacy", isn't it? :)

  • @hjalle10 a*

  • @5stringdriver I can testify to this. I recently won a Rainsong JM1000, the same model as Erik, and it beats the shit out of any other acoustic I've played on. If I find the right guitar I may be convinced to get another wooden one, but for now, carbon fibre all the way

  • i like the face he do when he play just he and his guitar

  • Haha he does look like him.....this guys is awesome though, this is one of my favorite acoustic songs.

  • if anybody could tell me the tuning that would be juuuuust peachy thanks

  • @StrattyBoiz AADF#AA... It's basically just an Open D variation.

  • @dajiaoma77777 That's where the magic is... to make such a simple structure sound amazing!

  • stop clapping you morons! If you feel like expressing yourself, do it after the song!

  • @buzzsh

I actually kind of like that they are clapping. It's a very, very steady beat and it's very prominent and that they make it even more prominent just makes the song stronger. If you notice they stop clapping when the song calms down and the beat isn't that strong anymore. It adds emphasis and it's good. You're hardly a moron for getting into the music and feeling it.

  • this is really awsome, i love what u do, keepp up with it.! :D

    Your amazing man.!

  • You're like Yoda of guitar... Awesome...

  • This is just magnificent!

  • i wish i could give this song a million thumbs up

  • simply the best Eric thank you for your unique music.

  • you are my new idol.

    you, sir, are awesome

when I grow up, I wanna be like you

  • How big are you dude? That guitar looks huge! You're amazing nonetheless. Keep playing and thanks for sharing. Come to the panhandle of Florida sometime.

  • where can i find tabs on this song?

  • @rookalexander

they arent on ultimateguitar, ect...... but u can buy them off his site

  • @rookalexander you cant

  • see i have more influences than just metal

  • see i have more influences than just metal

  • im seeing you play at the mars bar tonight uk worcester!!! I cant wait.

  • Erik, do you have stage fright? I'm curious because it seems like you're so comfortable with your head hung low and cradled next to your box. You're an amazing musician, man.

  • slt eric vraiment ecxelent arrangement ,tres bonne technique ,exelent feeling .je crois que tu peux interpreter n'importe quelle chanson mais c difficile pour que qlq t'interprete . bonne continuation .

  • i this this is actually my favorite erik mongrain song.

  • What model guitar are you playing in this video? looks awesome!

  • @archershinobi78 it's a rainguitar made from carbon

  • Vous etes incroyable!

  • awsome! one of my favourites. is he using a pick?

  • so....powerful!

  • amazing technique, antoine defour and guys are incredible too, but theres just something extra buildin in what you do. I dont even wanna know how many years it took to make rythm work together with hammer on

  • Whoa! Great groove! Are you using a low A tuning on your 6th string? Incredible sound!

  • 38 people voted while drunk.

  • It's like a privilege beeing allowed to watch you playing guitar.

  • clapping? Heck, I would have been dancing :-D To watch this is... watching someone who is totally involved-- not much differentiation between the absolutely glorious connection between body/mind/music, and it is wonderful to see. Would love to attend a performance.

  • HOLY SHIT!! NICE!!!!

  • @jessesank no, its tuned in the chord of Am

  • @jessesank sorry wrong comment

  • Is this in standard tuning?

  • I'd usually agree with the clapping comment, it's horrible when the audience drown at the music but he seems to really enjoy the participation of the crowd.

  • I think he plays like Newton Faulkner and took that aspect of music, prog rock acoustic lol

  • Comment removed

  • I hate those claps !

  • i can play this perfectly :D

  • prooove iitt!

  • @AKESEBA Yeah, sure

  • man you are very talent !!!!!

  • This one is my favorite. Such smooth sounding bass hits and wonderful guitar. ^_^

  • It's hard to believe that this is probably one of Erik's easier songs to play. I love this song so much.

You can pick up his tabs from his website on his forums, he put them up for free :)

  • no wonder that he took his tabs online for free... there are just a hand of players who can play those amazing stuff xD

  • Bristol in November I will see you there. This song is awesome!! Very cool

  • If i can play this song i quit taking lessons!

  • coming to boston in august, have tickets!

  • I didn't know Vin Diesel was that good on guitar. =D

In all seriousness though, that was really great.

  • Don't listen to the thubs down, that was funny.

  • lolz, u made my day

  • @Paradigmshift2 spastic

  • @Paradigmshift2 HA thats exactly what i thought but he can play the shit outa one

  • I wish those emo kids would stop clapping.

  • lol i agree

  • i disagree...it kinda sounds better than the studio recording and the clapping makes it sound better

  • This is Your best song, Mr. Mongrain! Excellent 'audio' entertainment! Thank You! Regards from Germany, G.

  • clapers?

  • I think he means he hates the audience clapping and ruining the song...

  • okay, i thought he meant that he kinda drums on the guitar with the right hand...

  • AlwayBigfish there's no tabs this song is his song

Good job mon Éric J'ai écouter plein d'video tu m'fait capoter

  • there are tabs!

  • where?!?

  • on my website

  • ok thanks found them already

  • What is the Tuning Erik? And What is a books name that I can get the tabs of this?

  • Erik posted tabs to this song on his website. Look up at google and it should be first thing that comes up.

  • His wrist actually, look at the shot starting at 0:22, it's fairly obvious.

  • do that strings only go with that tpe of guitar?

  • no i think he uses elixer strings. it said that somewhere

  • that guitar is made out of graphite, thats why its so big, and expensive....damn

  • indeed. come back when u have 3k lying around! :(

  • hm.. are you sure it's just 3k? I mean... of course it's a lot of money, but if you look at other professional instruments (violins, flutes, not even starting with pianos), a lot of them are 20k upwards.

  • WOW YOU ARE FABOULUS

  • i really like the song, i just dont get what special thing hes doing. seems like hes normally playing the guitar

  • It's about the tonality and musicianship, the clarity and the crystalline sound he extracts from the instrument. It's about a man who uses that guitar better than most people use their eyes or hands, or lungs. What's special is that less than 5% of the population have that kind of gift of music.

  • less than 1% really. it's really just amazing to watch someone who is that great

  • I am normally a huge fan of percussion style rhythm tapping, in this particular piece I find it distracting.

The overall structure and composure, tonality, and uniqueness is fantastic and very interesting to listen to. With just the right amount of subtle nuances that make it something a little different every time you listen to it. Just would like to hear a clean (no tapping percussion) version.

  • I agree, either that or I would add some bass and congas. That would be wonderfull! :)

  • simply amazing!!!!!

  • it's awesome when you see a musician love what they're doing, which is so rare! and he does IT so damn well! nice one dude

  • This version is also much better than the recording in my opinion.

  • indeed it is by far. sometimes its the room and the atmosphere that makes the song. eriks not got a crowds influence and emotion in a studio. listen to the bit 53 seconds through. sounds so much more emotive!

  • It´s not about the dificulty, it´s about feeling the music... Excelent melody, simply pure and peaceful...it´s a state of mind............ Bring it Erik

  • your amazing.....plz come to germany.....id like to see/hear that life !!!!!!!!

  • Where did you get your guitar!? Btw, love the amazing strumming/muting skills...

  • This is just the kind of music, that makes you stop anything youre doing, and just listen. One of the most beautiful songs ive heard ever. Masterpiece was a good description. Awesome, thank so much!

  • tunning?

  • Man ... I'd wish this never ended. Or at the very least were a little longer.

  • i feel the exact same way every time i hear this. i have to replay it so many times to get satisfaction lol
