Great video, thanks for posting! Brings back a lot of memories for me, as the 944 Turbo Cup was always my favourite series to watch live. I was only 8 at the time, but I still remember the cars, names, faces, and sounds like it was yesterday. Can't beat the sound of a 3.0L turbo 4 breathing through 3.5" of straight pipe. ;-) The shot of Spenard egging on Fellows was a classic example of the competitive spirit and extremely close racing in the series. Great stuff!
That was great thanks for putting this video up, I remember (a little I was 13 or so)these races aswell as the Players challenge and the Honda series and they all were awesome to watch. It's to bad this type of racing just doesn't work in Canada anymore.
They were stock in that they were factory prepared race cars and were identical. They were not like most other showroom stock series cars that came of a dealer lot. There was apparently a big HP difference though nobody seems to know (or at least admit to) the exact number!
@TheGarageBlog In those days, before live telemetry and datalogging, I'm sure that there was some "wiggle room" when it came to setup and tune. In fact, I seem to remember hearing something about power window switches and boost controllers... and you wonder why he was so fast with the windows down! ;-) Still doesn't detract from the genuine good nature, the determination and skill the teams and drivers needed to win the championship. And they put on a damn good show, too.
@merkurman I now know several of the key drivers of the day. To this day, they all deny the stories of power window switches, cruise control and volume knobs!
Either they were just rumors or everyone involved wants to distance themselves from bending the rules.
