forestry is a recognized form of agriculture in our area. It is a 20 year crop instead of a 6 month crop. There is a requirement that the land must be replanted with "like" trees or put to "higher" use. Proper management can help control blights and pests, like those destroying the hemlocks in the Appalachas.
The song is truely political about the imperialism of England stealing the resources of Scotland and giving nothing back. The taking of the trees was critical to the heart of the people.
it's an unfortunate reality but reality but reality nonetheless that in a well managed working forest, trees need to be cut down, deadwood burned and new trees planted. Did you know that the giant redwood nearly died out because of the PREVENTION of forest fires. they need burnt ground to breed! and extremely old trees become less useful as trees, pretty as they are. they use up more nutrients for less return. responsibly out with the old and and in with the new. Nice vid tho.
I did a tour of Ireland in '99. Everyone on our bus was amazed and excited by the foliage and green of Ireland. But our tour guide's face got a little sad and she told us that at one time Ireland was much greener with ancient oaks. But English furniture makers felled all the trees in the 18th century to make chairs and tables. Her voice actually had a bit of regret and sadness in it. I was glad that McKennitt made this song to illustrate it. And it's still going on today!
This song is so very beautiful, But when I see these lovely trees taken down it breaks my heart, All trees are living things that help clean our air and bring much beauty to our earth, I wonder some times if people who bring destruction do they ever feel the pain that is felt by up rooting a plant or a tree, All living things deserve to live like all of us,I wish this would stop , Thank You Tony for sharing this sad but very true heart warming video,All you have captured here tells a sad story
@shoelover57 if you read my full comment you'll understand forestry a little better. instead of blaming forest managers perhaps you should learn what forestry means. most managed forests plant 5 for 1 and of those 5, they KNOW at least 2 or 3 will be eaten by wildlife or destroyed by weather before attaining maturity, that's why they plant 5. old trees may be big but they are not often pretty, preserving historic trees is all very well but don't cry when they are cut down, nature does it too
This is the first video I have found of this song that actually CAPTURES THE SONG! I've yet to see anyone else use the felling of trees, when this is what the song is about. Beautiful job, just wonderful, bless you.
Omg, no more assassination of trees. please stop it, the humanity needs to learn to preserve the naturure. we must do somthing about that to stop this crimes
let's say enough
the music goes well to the video, beautiful and sad at same time
you are amazing my friend thx for uploading this extraordinary work
