He also does a lot of charity work in Africa for abandoned children of AIDS victims. He has a successful movie career and has worked on many causes, environmental and animal rights. And he does work as a police officer. In other words he has done a lot in his life, much more than most people, certaintly those who criticize him, who are jealous.

@onemortal Aikido is a wartime martial art. It is not something you would use in MMA because of the use of small joint manipulation, which is illegal. It is also very useful against multiple attackers. The same could not be said for styles like BJJ. It is not devoid of offensive moves, but you were assumed to know how to attack if you studied it. In it's conception, you could not even study unless you were already proficient in martial arts. It is absolutely a fighters art.
@Emortis9 You're thinking of Aikijutsu. Aikido means the way of harmony and most certainly is NOT a wartime art. It's a watered down version from Ueshiba. Having studied both, I'd still say BJJ is superior. You've got to remember that times change and Aikijutsu might have been (and I mean it when I say *might*) useful during the times when people were wearing battle armour and only their wrists and a few other body parts were accessible, but it's not gonna work well in a modern fight.

He's unwisely self-assured and his movies are too violent, which is just contrary to the philosophy of the art he practices. Why rag on Seagals weight? He's like 60 years old, it's normal to get old and fat, but he still looks pretty good for his age. You can argue the ineffectiveness of Aikido (I'm not even impressed by it), but c'mon 7th dan Aikido master? First foreigner to teach in Japan? One of the biggest action stars of the 90's? Jefferon Parish is not some small town, it includes most of metropolitan New Orleans.
