The only thing I liked about this version was that there were actually trees surrounding the towns. That's pretty much it. Well, maybe that Prof. Oak gives you Pokeballs at the beginning, so you don't have to buy them later. Otherwise, the originals were far superior.

about some comments ago regarding the war.

differently from the anime where the world is all cute and nothing bad ever happens. the game (at least the originals r/b and remakes) is serious business, and it makes you think a lot more how the world would be if there were pkmn...

although bringing pkmn to the war would be, well, it'd be pretty intense... "Drop the Electrode!"

I could imagine gyarados fighting alongside ships, skarmory and magnezone in the skies, and bastiodon marching with tanks. They haven't had any pokemon wars featured in the series, but they have had epic fights between legendaries and such. Probably, soldiers/trainers would bring along their favorite or strongest pokemon to fight alongside them, like Lt. Surge and Raichu.

my educated guess would be that a harsh recession hit the kanto region, which prevented them from buying the resources for house building like wood,concrete, and pipe. So until the kanto economy starts to expand and grow again that house will never be finished and for all we know that machop may soon be out of work. Yeah, you're right, it kinda does...that fanclub would probably be Goldenrod City. The gym would be Azalea Town, that southernmost house would be Cherrygrove City, the shop would be Violet City, New Bark Town would be where that brown sign is, Ecruteak City would be to the right of the north entrance, Olivine would be to the left of the Pokémon Center, one of those rocks would be Cianwood, Mahogany Town and Blackthorn City would be in the trees.
