Walt Whitman wrote this poem "pioneer , o pioneer" in 1865 in philadelphia...the old voice you hear towards the end was walt whitman recorded reading the poem in the late 1800s ..this was one of the first ever recordings!:)

When this was written in the 1800's, it was written to the ideology of Manifest Destiny, when settlers where moving to the west and killing many Native Americans in the progress, so to tell everybody, this is not racist at all, when it is the opposite. They're two poems ("Pioneers! O Pioneers" & "America") from one of America's greatest and most poets. He wrote a lot about the spirit of America and exploration. If you're interested, he wrote in the 1860s a very famous book of poems called "Leaves of Grass" which includes the two in this commercial.
