  • Austin, when I got my turtle ate petsmart they said just a UVB light and a night light bulb which is red. After watching your video and others it sounds like a UVB light and a basking light? What are your thoughts on this night light?

  • im using a giant closet with a glass sliding door BEAT THAT

  • *sigh*

  • Is this good care someone tell mee plzz!

  • @rawrstar101 no

  • You have no idea about carrying tortois!

  • Zoomed 100w powersun bulb, gives heat and light all on one

  • Your tortoise is very cute ;)

  • Thanks I'm getting one for Christmas and this is very helpful

  • a tortoise is so much easier than a turtle

  • How big do these animals get?

  • or could i use a repti sun 5.0 uvb bulb

  • can i use a zoo med repti sun dessert fluoruscent uvb bulb

  • u need a real hide

  • Water dish would be wider and shallower

  • why cant u use sand cause thats what i was going to use

  • @SuperPitbullMan it gets in thare eyes and you would prolly have to give them eye drops like every day.

  • Realy helpful! Having a tortoise home seems less of a daunting task now. phew~

  • it does work on sulcata

  • does it work on a sulcata tortoises

  • I have the same PJ's as you... LOL

  • Megg90 is right Please do some research before you buy any tortoise. Plus alfalfa pellets are HORRIBLE for ANY type of tortoise! NEVER use alfalfa pellets.

  • Omg thanks soooooooo much this is way cheaper and more room and ur so smart thank you 

  • you are very creative and smart and you saved me so much money thank you:)

  • thanks you a great help im getting a greek totoise soon how much would that ll add up to counting buying 1 tortuise message me back thanks

  • @Sarahbear320

I am not an owner of a Greek tortoise, but chicken wire might work?

  • okay, I want to use a rubbermaid bin like you did, but i have 2 cats and a dog, what can i do to prevent them from getting into it?

  • Tortoise should never be kept in a fish tank, they overheat and get dehyrdated

  • i love your vid it is so awsome you are cute to may name is madison and will you make a bearded dragon care video please pleaseplease

  • Hi Austin, my name is Zeke. I really like your tortoise video. I'm about to get a Greek tortoise too! I've made some videos too. I will send you the link as soon as they're posted on YouTube.

  • your tortoise needs a much better place to hide and i got one too he is 8 years old and love him so much :D

  • 40 bucks for a water dish?? LOL more like 4 or maybe 14

  • But one man say is not good for this turtles this plastic with water.Because water can come in nose and turtle death lol ? is this realy ?

  • The setup is too basic. Your tortoise needs a better place to hide & it needs more places to explore, which helps it exercise. You can't just give your tortoise a thin layer of bedding, a fake flower, a couple lights, a really deep water dish, & some food & expect it to be healthy. I think it would be fair for your tortoise if you worked a little bit harder on making it a better enclosure.

  • Is The tourtoise full grown??

  • never use sand??

  • Hey man nice video, could you give me a link to the exact one you bought? I'm on Walmart dot com and I can't find the rubber storage bin.

  • Hello Reptoshow! I have a greek tortoise also and I really like your set up. My tortoise is named Sheldon. He is male also. He likes to have his neck and head petted. Unlike your tortoise, he will NOT eat his carrots! What is a mother to do? Thank you for sharing and the best thing I learned from your video was your water bowl/bath invention. The Lord bless you!

  • can you do a video on how to set up a leopard tortoise video

  • I have two baby (2-3 years old) Spur-thighed tortoises from Turkey and I live in England. Can anyone help me with 2 questions.

1: How big can they grow?

2: Because it is usually cold here even in the summer and they are from Turkey, can I still have them in my garden during the summer?

  • @oVALLACKo African Spur thighed are named Sulcata's in the US. They grow very large usually around 24 inches or 2 ft. They end up weighing 100 pounds or more. They are outdoor tortoises. They are the third largest under the Galapagos Tortoise. They need UV lighting or sunlight. They thrive in warm arid areas such as 80-100 degrees outside and 10-40% humidity too much and it could get a Respiratory Infection.

  • emm ur water dish is too deep and ur enclosure is well too small

  • can you use natural sunlight??

  • @murt986 I have a greek tortoise too (4 hours now) and I do put him in the direct sun with one of those half round bark things to go under for shade. In the cold weather I put him in a kiddie pool and bring him in the house. I give him a heating lamp like the young man in the video does when he is inside. The Lord bless you,

    Tina

  • @murt986 Well you certainly don't see any heat lamps anywhere in the wild, do you?

  • @TheBoaConstrictor95 no so that means they can survive if u put them in the sun

  • @murt986 I'm glad you figured that out. Tortoises survived millions of years without heat lamps.

  • How large is your tortoise? Im thinking of getting a greek, urs doesnt look to big either

  • are u shitting meh?... lol thats my name :P

  • How much did it all cost to put together? + how much did the tortoise cost?

  • ghetto

  • @XxKKthebeastxx id sure as hell be using this setup when i get my tortoise espially in today's economy. P.S- What does your setup look like and how much did it cost?

  • The setup is too basic. They are exotic animals & they need better care then that.

  • haha "Zeus"

  • so,,you could use coconut husk right? what else,,maybe some mulch? or is that bad?dont they dig burrows cause they're desert tourtise arent they?

  • where did u get ur greek tortise because i want one very bad and im saving up my money for one.thanks-jake

  • ball python setup?? and beardie setup??

  • How much did this setup cost?

  • i am from greece mine costed 30 euros......hahahhahahaha(i have it 10 years now)and everyone finds it at least 100 in other countries....unlucky people if u wanna one for 50 contact me

  • Can you make a Desert Tortoise video,if you can? I got a new Desert Tortoise,I have an experience with animals, except tortoises. I don't recommend that coconut substrate because the design of the eyes. It could get into their eyes. I recommend vita sand. In case they ingest it,they get their vitamins. I also recommend bark chips. It's best to get big bark chips.

  • i always wanted have a greek tortoise.

but they seemed to be expensive. about how much are greek tortoise.

    do petsmart sell them?

  • i like ur vid

  • cool vid

  • i have a russian tortoise she's a 2 year old female. we have her in a 4 foot wooden vivarium right now is this right or should i have a tortoise table? i live in the uk and i heard that it woud be best to keep her in the vivarium because in the uk it's too cold to keep her in a tortoise table. i'm confused on whats best for her what should i do can anyone help me ? thank you xx

  • Is this a good set up for a red footed tortoise

  • This is what Peter Griffin looked like whenever he was younger and a little slimmer! I'm guessing it's either Quagmire or Cleveland running the camera!

  • Hey, thanks for the info! It helped a lot!

  • why have you made a tank for it ? I have a tortoise which is free to climb in and out of his tank all the time. All he has in it is wood chips,a heat mat,a U.V lamp, a extra heat lamp(for when its freezing) and a small house inside his tank so he can hide.He walks about all day and only returns to his house to feed and drink and to sleep.

  • is it possible for you to make a video on a starred tortoise

  • is that coconut husk powdery because it could get stuck in their eyes-------i found this fact on expert village greek tortoise tips, yes on utube and good luck with your tortoises. Im getting a russian tortoise or greek. You also need a heat pad for extra heat on one side of the enclosure.Dont give them iceburg lettuce because it has no nutritional value.Got this info from expert village.

  • CAN YOU MAKE A VIDEO ON bearded dragon lizards

  • Could you make a video for beginner's tortoise tips?

  • why is sand bad to use? I have heard it is good for their nails.

  • Where did u get your greek tortoise?

  • and r they good starter tortoises? ppl say they arnt, but i really think they r good starter tortoises

  • can u use sand? and is it safe?

  • dont use sand and they make good starter tortoises in my opinion

  • k thx bro xD

  • if u put a strip of card or paper on front of the glass it helps them to stop trying to walk there the glass

  • That's a nice vid.. and a really nice job on the basics. I'm impressed.. and you gave me a good idea for the new Greek I'm getting soon! Thank you! (I subscribed, too!) :o)

  • nice video! i have to say that is one of the best ideas i've seen. I've talked to other breeders about keeping greeks and they suggested a 50+gallon Rubbermaid container, a 50/50 mix of play sand and potting soil for substrate and the heating and lighting and a hide. i'm impressed with your work especially for your age. As for you Megg90 get over yourself and lay off. you're egotistical and just an ass.

  • i have 2 huge dogs and lots of over animals running around the house if i wer to make one of them my dogs wuld probebly eat it and i personly think they need more space then tha

  • whatever u have to tell urself

  • @reptoshow maybe you should watch one of my videos. I actually raise tortoises. My youngest is now 6 months old, and I am uploading a video on her, as I type this.

What subspecies is your Greek, since you know so much? Ibera? Antakyan? Syrian? Jordanian?

  • i dont no what subspecies he is and i dont need to no he eats well hes active and ben this way for several years he has also ben to a professional herp vet who said he was in perfect health. i dont no what ur problem is but u mite want to c a thearapist about it :)

  • @reptoshow

Ugh. Learn how to spell, eh?

So here's what I think: You are 13 maybe 14 years old. Your parents bought you a tortoise, and you have a digital camera so you make videos on him. So you think you know something.

When in all honesty, you probably have no idea what sex that animal even is. Do you know how to tell the sex of a tortoise?

I know more than you do. I'm not saying this to be mean, its just fact. If you want to keep that animal correctly, please do some research.

  • u were right about the age and i never said i new more than u u probably no more about greeks than me but what im doing is working for me and im going to keep doing it and i do know how to sex a tortoise

  • @Megg90

Reading this didn't make me want to see your videos. In fact, it makes me want to avoid them since you're so rude to 'beginners'. Why not just give him friendly advice instead of acting like a know-it-all?

  • @Megg90 please give the kid a break, like come on why do you have to be so nasty......

  • @Megg90 STFU!

  • @reptoshow what professinal herp vet, the one in the village... ya well he prob. now's nothing, you cant tell if a little fing like this is in a good stat or not, the prouf is that evan hummes die out of the blue times on times(and we can talk), you now what i men???

  • o ok but yeah u can them together

  • @reptoshow NO YOU CAN'T. You cannot, and SHOULD not mix species!

  • @megg90 why cant you mix species???

  • @TheTortDude95 because the pathogens and germs in Wild Caught (WC) animals are more heightened in the different species. Also, the habitat and diet requirements are different between species as well. A redfoot needs protein in its diet, and high humidity, and a greek does not.

Housing them together can cause problems with the respiratory track of the greek (they get infections) or if the red foot is too dry, eye issues etc.

That's just one example. I've got millions. :)

  • @megg90 great! thanks a lot! good thing i only have greeks so far...

  • Don't use sand, it maintains heat , but gets in thier eyes, alfalfa pellets work great and keep the humidity low .

  • i dont use sand i use bed a beast i have found that it works the best but thanks for the comment

  • @ngpiro Alfalfa pellets are made entirely of protein. They mold easily, are TERRIBLE for the diet if they are ingested, and will cause major problems in the legs because they offer almost NO traction! Do some research!

  • i use hay & soil, because they sometimes need to dig to hibernate, dig to lay eggs, or sometimes just dig for fun... hay is good because it keeps them nice & warm.

  • how much did all this cost?

  • I have a Greek tortoise that looks exactly like it. I use alfalfa pellets for substrate.

  • is sand good for substrate?

  • thxs so much that helped

  • your video was very helpful since I am trying to decide what type of reptile I want to get.......................your video was awesome thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • can you post a video foe a horsefield tortoise please i got one plus a glass tank and all the stuff but do they need a big water tank

  • its pretty much the same, mine was housed with several horsefield tortoises

  • my favorite bedding is to put soil in the first layer then to put some hay because hay is soft & it keeps them warm. hay is also ok because they tend to chew on the bedding sometimes & its ok if they chew on the hay. i put the soil because they like to dig & burry themselves in it. i dont have those light because i live in saudi arabia & they dont sell those. 2 of my torts are too small to keep outside (birds will take them) so once a day i take them out for heat with close supervision...

  • thats perfect man, if your going to be taking a trip i would suggest getting at least one light bulb though.

  • yeah but the problem is they dont sell those here in saudi arabia...

  • yo man, you totaly made my day haha.

    thanks lol

  • Thank you. I'm thinking of getting one.

  • hey, Greeks are great. I know i'm advertising and I sound like an idiot, but I did make a Care video as well, using different methods but successful as well.

    Thanks!

  • Nice video! Yeah, that's true about glass aquarium. You know a lot! One thing, lettuce leads to pyramiding. I really don't mean to criticize, please don't take it like that. But I used Romaine Lettuce. Lettuce makes them grow to fast, and as a result, those big scutes on their shell occur. Carrots are good though. I use collard greens, but that's just me. I have a vid on my Greek Tortoise (it sucks kind of) and I have a small cage (taken care of now) so if you want to see what I do check it out!
