  • I have a 1998 jeep cherokee sport that has went through 3 belts in 2 weeks I am thinking it night be the tentioner pully but it isn't a clean break in is it is riping strands at a time off

  • @davidhowington One of your pulleys is out of alignment

  • Your Jeep is very clean! Never go offroading?

  • @Sykora171 occasionally, but its washed and waxed frequently and kept covered

  • I have a 2002 Jeep Wrangler and after a few minutes on the freeway, I get a high pitch noise that only goes away when I accelerate. If I let the engine idle after the noise starts, it is a constant whine. I am assuming its a bad pulley so Im replacing the idler pulley and the belt. I hope thats all it is. Thanks for the vid.

  • @fltopp1 Hope it helps. But here is my advice. Its not your belt. Its most likely the idler pulley, but in some rare cases such as mine, it was the water pump. Other cases, its something inside the engine. Take the belt off first, start the car and run it for 5 seconds, if it doesnt make the noise, then its one of the two. While the belt is off, twist each one and check for noises, resistance, or play in the pulley. Then youll have your answer

  • @fltopp1 yea i dont think its the belt, its probably your pulley my 2000 jeep wrangler was making the same noise...but when i would accelerate the high pitch would get louder =( so yea

  • Thanks for posting this video. Came in handy for replacing mine. I can't tell you how annoying that Haynes manual was getting.

  • @chaosimproved I love that haynes manual. Its my bible. lol. I didnt use it to do the belt though. It wasnt really necessary. Belts are easy

  • Thanks - this vid was just the thing I need to boost my confidence in changing the belt on my 99 TJ.

  • @cissp644823 haha thats why I made it. Its fairly simple, but seeing it done really helps. Let me know if you have any questions

  • Nice vid, I have a '95 Mitsubishi 3000GT similar awesome red as your Jeep, and I need to replace the 2 belts on it just as routine maintenance. I never heard of a faulty water pump though squeaking like that, usually your car will overheat if the pump's not working, or it will just start leaking alot and you know to replace it, interesting fix

  • @GSXRMark99 I've never seen it either. But I replaced it and it fixed the problem. The entire shaft and bearing was shifting out, causing the blades to scratch the sidewall. I haven't replaced a belt on a 3000 GT before, but im sure its the same concept. Its easier on the older cars. I like pretty much any car from the 90's

  • @chorstma44 I'm the same way, I love alot of 90s cars. I'm 29 now and grew up in 90s, probably why I love everything 90s, including all music!!!! I'll have to post a vid of my car next week if it's nice out, it's like your Jeep, amazing all-original condition for its age. A rare 90s find!!

  • @GSXRMark99 It is. Thats why I bought it as soon as I found out it was for sale. Im going to preserve it and buy another daily driver, another 90's car, but with higher miles. 1990 was the last decade for cars built to last. Less electronics, thicker, sturdier materials, build quality. The jeep is a tank compared to any new suv. Im just a huge fan of older cars. Sometimes, I wish I grew up in the 70's. Big car, fresh air, V8, open road, no computers, not to mention lower gas prices. Haha!
